The prevention and treatment of mental health concerns are consistently named among autistic adults’ highest clinical and research priorities. While several theories have been proposed to explain the high prevalence of depression and anxiety in autistic populations, virtually no longitudinal research has evaluated causal mechanisms. The first study in this dissertation aims to explore how known contributors to depression and anxiety identified by general population research – namely, rumination, dissatisfaction with social connectedness, and distressing sexual experiences – relate to the development of internalizing symptoms in autistic individuals during the transition to college. Power to the Pedal is a fare-free, closed-access e-bike share program, operating more similarly to a lending library. The program aims to provide two low-income communities access to a reliable, low-emissions, electric assisted, active transportation option. The research conducted aimed to identify barriers faced by the community to adopting the bike sharing program. A survey and interviews conducted found that infrastructure, safety, cargo, financial ability, household structure, health, and culture all play a role when deciding when to use the program. The precarity of a nation’s healthcare system often shows its true colours in remote areas, including the frontiers. This lack of stability is also seen in Malinau, where inaccessibility due to inadequate infrastructure leads to a shortage of basic medicines and necessary medical equipment. Coupled with limited healthcare workers, doctors and nurses frequently encounter situations in which they are unable to take care of patients properly. This project explicates how queer people produce space for themselves through art in New York City amidst the prevalent neoliberal frameworks that have existed since the 1980s. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with queer artists and nonprofit workers, participant observation in art spaces, and close reading of art compiled through archival work, I explore sites of presentation (places in which art is displayed) and modes of presentation (how specific artists decide to present their art). Poor financial performance can have negative impacts on business sustainability. Banking and finance leaders are concerned about poor financial performance because it can lead to a decrease in investor confidence and lower share prices for publicly traded companies. Grounded in stakeholder theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlation study was to examine the relationship between corporate social responsibility, job satisfaction, and return on assets. The participants were 76 employees of the U.S. banking and finance industry who completed a job satisfaction survey. Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is a mental health disorder that is seen throughout adolescent populations; however, limited research has been conducted on African American adolescents. Based on the parenting theory, the purpose of this quantitative study was to examine relationships between parenting styles, African American cultural influences, and ODD. A sample of 125 parents with adolescents in Virginia was surveyed. The Parenting Styles Questionnaire was used to measure parenting styles. The African American Acculturation Scale Revised was used to measure African American cultural influences. Symptoms of ODD were measured using the Child and Adolescent Disruptive Behavior Inventory. Background

The literature on celebrity politics often asserts that celebrity politicians are good at fundraising. They are wealthy people in wealthy social networks, and this should give them a fundraising advantage compared to their noncelebrity opponents. Yet, this hypothesis has never been tested.

Method

Fundraising data from 1964 to 2022 was collected from multiple sources.

Results

This study finds that celebrity candidates are typically not able to out-fundraise their opponents. Yet they perform remarkably well despite this disadvantage.

Conclusions

Celebrities tend to win elections when they raise more money than their opponents, run in open-seat contests or local elections. They …

This research empirically explored counselors’ (n = 12) process of the cultivation and integration of LGBTIQ+ cultural competence and cultural humility to inform training which leads to better services for LGBTIQ+ clients through constructivist grounded theory method. Of those millions, a majority have been identified as undergraduate students of Color who are pregnant, parenting, frequently underrepresented, and often not equitably supported toward degree completion. Firearm violence has led many U.S. cities to invest in gunshot detection technology (GDT). Research on GDT remains limited and focuses mainly on whether it impacts police response times, arrests, and injuries. Public opinion about this technology has received limited attention. The current study addresses this gap using surveys in 23 Portland, Oregon neighborhoods with above-average firearm discharges. Respondents were evenly distributed between those opposing GDT and those supporting its use. People with prior knowledge of the technology and those with privacy concerns were more likely to be opposed whereas those who worried about gun violence and those who had …
