Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The COVID-19 coronavirus has wreaked havoc on the world and medical community. Treating individuals during a worldwide pandemic is nothing short of heroic. With limited supplies and treatment options, healthcare professionals were forced to make ethical considerations when treating patients with COVID-19. The pandemic exposed stress in the healthcare system, leading to difficult ethical decisions such as providing access or denying access to treatment. Knowing these ethical considerations can assist healthcare professionals with practical policies for future pandemics. Law Enforcement Officers' Experience Of Crisis Intervention Team (Cit) Training, Jessica Yolanda Goings

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractThe decline in mental health services has led to an increased role of law enforcement officers (LEOs), who are often the first to respond to mental health crisis incidents. Despite the specialized training that officers receive, there continues to be a public consensus that LEOs lack proficiency when handling a mental ill individual and have a deficiency in communication skills. The purpose of the research was to explore the experience of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for LEOs and then describe how their experience ensued once deployed to the field to handle mental health encounters. Evaluations of CIT training have …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Workplace expectations for engineers have changed in the 21st century due to rapid technology advances, globalization, customer centricity, and team-based design practices, which require engineering graduates to have well-developed emotional intelligence (EI) to perform at high levels in the engineering profession. Moral Distress Experienced By Behavioral Health Clinicians Who Have Worked With Maternal, Opioid-Using Clients, Jill Lee-Hubble

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Moral distress (MD) is a concept that has been well studied in nursing and other medical fields as a precursor to provider burnout. This qualitative phenomenological study explored how MD was experienced by five BH clinicians who have worked in residential and hospital settings providing counseling to maternal, opioid-using clients. Interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) informed the research methodology and data analysis. Substance use during pregnancy is highly stigmatized in society; thus, a feminist conceptualization was integrated …

Parenting Practices And The Intergenerational Effect Concerning Oppositional Defiant Disorder In Children, David Little Jan 2022

Parenting Practices And The Intergenerational Effect Concerning Oppositional Defiant Disorder In Children, David Little

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Children whose oppositional defiance behavior (ODD) is not amended during their formative years could contribute to their possible growth into a juvenile delinquent. Parents must be mindful of the impact of their childrearing practices, as most parents emulate family traditions considered adequate by their parents and grandparents. The reoccurrence of generational parenting practice is professionally referenced as the "intergenerational effect." This correlational study attempted to establish relationships between ODD, parenting practices, and the intergenerational effect. Using Bowen's family system theory, this study emphasized how the family structure could differentially shape adolescent emotional function and social development. Archival data results from …

The Relationship Between Internet Livestream Religious Engagement And Social Support And Health-Related Quality Of Life, Kimberly Ann Mccowan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractReligious engagement is essential in terms of offering protective factors for mental and physical health. This change in religious practice is represented by a decline in religious engagement via disaffiliation of traditional brick and mortar forms of religious activity, with an emerging phenomenon of religious engagement on the Internet. This engagement leads to a gap within the literature regarding Internet-centric religious behaviors. The study aimed to fill this gap by increasing societal understanding of religious engagement behaviors on the Internet. Social support was used to explain …

Therefore, the purpose of this quantitative, correlational survey study was to examine the factors that contributed to burnout among psychologists during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Maslach’s theory of burnout was used as the theoretical framework to explore …

Resilience Of Former Offenders Released From A Halfway House, Tasha Andrea Pritchett Jan 2022

Resilience Of Former Offenders Released From A Halfway House, Tasha Andrea Pritchett

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Former offenders confront a myriad of obstacles that often lead to re-offending and return to prison. Re-offending also creates financial and social burdens for taxpayers. There is some evidence that the consequences of incarceration for offenders can be buffered through resilience. The purpose of the study was to explore the narratives of resilience in adult males who have transitioned from halfway houses to mainstream society. Richardson’s metatheory of resilience and resiliency was …
