AbstractThrough the lens of Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory, the purpose of the study was to explore African American and African caregivers’ perceptions of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), child development knowledge, religious/traditional beliefs, and fear of stigma within the context of their culture. African and African American children with ASD are identified at later ages than Caucasian children by 1 1/2 to 2 years. Disparities in educational and social outcomes of African and African American children with ASD may be related to this identification delay. Overcrowded prison system conditions can significantly worsen mental illness. Compassionate prison segregation options required for substantive mental health care are lacking. Death with Dignity is not a current legal solution for terminal psychiatric illness in the United States. How mental health care providers in Washington State perceive psychiatric Death with Dignity for treatment-resistant, severely mentally ill prisoners has illuminated scholarly research. The client agency’s special assignment promotions do not have transparent recruitment processes, resulting in artificial barriers within the noncompetitive ranks. The purpose of this professional administrative study was to explore the limitations associated with artificial barriers to the noncompetitive opportunities within fire departments and whether the removal of the barriers would add to job satisfaction. Data were collected from interviews with ten firefighters ranging from captains to chiefs in competitive and noncompetitive positions within the client agency. Veterans’ treatment courts (VTCs) are problem-solving courts created to address the specific treatment needs of veteran defendants. Consistent with general strain theory, the stressors of military service can lead to negative emotions that have been linked to criminality. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived postdeployment experiences of U.S. women veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and their perception of the impact their diagnosis had on their immediate families.
