Community Journalism In Zambia: The Case Of Chikuni Radio, Vincent Tilimboyi Nchimunya
Master's Theses (2009 -)
Community journalism is steadily gaining prominence in most African nations. It is a conduit through which different communities develop social interaction. It is also a platform through which the public create connections among themselves to identify and resolve local and national problems that affect citizens. The goal of this study was to examine how community journalists at Chikuni Radio practiced their craft in an effort to build a sense of community in southern Zambia. The study presents a qualitative thematic content analysis of in-depth semi-structured interviews with three Chikuni Radio editors and six journalists. The journalists’ community journalism experience ranged …

Library Association/Organization Work
"The AACP Basic Resources for Pharmacy Education is produced as a guide for those developing or maintaining the library collections that serve colleges and schools of pharmacy. The goal of the Basic Resources list is to make recommendations of books and other works to be included in pharmacy libraries, but not all titles are required to be purchased. Each pharmacy college has its own mission and its own program(s), and so each college’s library collection must reflect that mission and support the college’s program(s). Excellent library collections are built by knowledgeable librarians and drug information specialists using their professional judgment …

Gender Differences In Undergraduates' Sexuality: A Comprehensive Study Of Sexual Attitudes, Sindy Said
Gender Differences In Undergraduates' Sexuality: A Comprehensive Study Of Sexual Attitudes, Sindy Said
University Honors Program Senior Projects
The purpose of this study was to investigate correlated sexual attitude measures, gender differences in sexual attitudes, and the relationship between religious practice and sexual attitudes. The sample consisted of 92 undergraduate students (17 men and 75 women). The majority were young, Hispanic, straight, single, and were religious. An online survey was administered regarding 23-items from the Brief Sexual Attitudes Scale (BSAS) followed by demographic items. Main analyses showed that permissiveness and instrumentality attitudes were positively and weakly correlated with a medium effect. Additionally, birth control and communion were not correlated nor statistically significant. Men were insignificantly more permissive but …

An Initial Study Of Practicing Psychologists' Views Of The Utility Of Ecological Momentary Assessment For Difficult Psychotherapy Cases, William D. Ellison
An Initial Study Of Practicing Psychologists' Views Of The Utility Of Ecological Momentary Assessment For Difficult Psychotherapy Cases, William D. Ellison
Psychology Faculty Research
Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) is a burgeoning area of research, and several clinical applications of the resulting data have been identified by researchers, suggesting potential benefit to psychotherapy practice. However, practitioners often do not use traditional empirically-supported tools for diagnosis and outcome monitoring (e.g., validated interview measures and questionnaires). Thus, it is not clear how readily practitioners will take up newer technology-enhanced assessment methods, despite current enthusiasm among researchers. The current study aimed to explore the perceived usefulness of EMA-based tools for clinical assessment and outcome monitoring of difficult psychotherapy cases, as well as to identify correlates of attitudes about …

Killer Robots On Trial: Autonomous Weapons Systems In The Context Of International Law, Mikaela Heck
Killer Robots On Trial: Autonomous Weapons Systems In The Context Of International Law, Mikaela Heck
MA Major Research Papers
Killer robots are no longer a facet of science fiction, but rather an imminent reality. The development of autonomous weapons systems (AWS) has been something states and military operations have been working towards to build their arsenal and change the landscape of conflict. With this changing landscape, these AWS fit within public international law in a unique way, existing somewhere in between a weapon and a combatant. With increased autonomy and diminished human control over their behaviour, AWS present an interesting dilemma to existing international legal structures, as they are typically written in a fashion designed to be adhered by …

The Effect Of The Big Five Personality Traits On The Perceived Restorativeness Of Zondervan Library Spaces, James Brads, Luke Slater, Laura Mcclelland
Faculty-Mentored Undergraduate Scholarship
The current research aims explored which personalities experience differences in restorativeness in the Zondervan Library on the Taylor University campus. Through analysis of 302 surveys from Taylor undergraduates, we found that highly agreeable and open individuals typically see environments as more restorative. Individuals who score highly in Agreeableness and Openness see the library as a more restorative environment than those who score lower in these two domains. Agreeableness was the single best predictor of restorativeness on the first floor of the library, while the second floor of the library had two best predictors: Agreeableness and Openness.

Trends In Land Surface Phenology Across The Conterminous United States (1982-2016) Analyzed By Neon Domains, Liang Liang, Geoffrey M. Henebry, Lingling Liu, Xiaoyang Zhang, Li-Chih Hsu
Geography Faculty Publications
Tracking phenological change in a regionally explicit context is a key to understanding ecosystem status and change. The current study investigated long-term trends of satellite-observed land surface phenology (LSP) in the 17 National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) domains across the conterminous United States (CONUS). Characterization of LSP trends was based on a high temporal resolution (3-d) time series of the two-band enhanced vegetation index (EVI2) derived from a long-term data record (LTDR) of the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS). We identified significant trend patterns in LSP and their seasonal climate and land …
Searching For True Happiness, Taylor Shipley
Searching For True Happiness, Taylor Shipley
Proceedings of the Jepson Undergraduate Conference on International Economics
This paper takes a look into what variables might impact an individual's happiness. It utilizes the most recent World Happiness Report along with data collected from the UN. Two regressions were run, the first one using the variables GDP per capita, female and male life expectancy, unemployment rate, literacy rate, and consumer price index with a total of one hundred forty-eight countries. The second regression used the same variables along with corruption rating with a total of fifty-nine countries. It was found that GDP per capita, female life expectancy, and unemployment were the only three significant variables in the first …
