With the spread of COVID-19 and the social distancing regulations in place, multiple organizations have transitioned their workplace to a virtual setting. With the increase in business' transitioning to remote teams, it is first crucial to understand the various needs and characteristics of virtual teams. Through the analysis of multiple peer-reviewed articles and other texts on virtual teams, this study identifies building trust, effective communication, and performance management as the main points of focus in order to ensure effectiveness of virtual teams.

Our special issue provides a first-of-its kind attempt to examine environmental injustices in the occupied West Bank through interdisciplinary perspectives, pointing to the broader settler colonial and neoliberal contexts within which they occur and to their more-than-human implications. Specifically, we seek to understand what environmental justice—a movement originating from, and rooted in, the United States—means in the context of Palestine/Israel. Moving beyond the settler-native dialectic, we draw attention to the more-than-human flows that occur in the region—which include water, air, waste, cement, trees, donkeys, watermelons, and insects—to consider the dynamic, and often gradational, meanings of frontier, enclosure, and Indigeneity in …

This study examines the relationships between the Lincoln Police Department (LPD), the Lincoln Journal Star (LJS), and the public as they interacted during the Black Lives Matter protests in Lincoln, Nebraska, during June 2020. In order to analyze the relationships between the three actors, I utilized previous research that examined the role of the media on perceptions of police, how media framing of police brutality influences perceptions, and how the four models of public relations function in communities. Mental illness is a common condition in the United States, with over 20% of working age adults managing a mental illness condition in a given year. Disclosure of mental illness is often required for workers to take advantage of employer-provided resources (e.g., accommodations), yet use of resources is exceedingly low (less than 10%). Negative stigma-related outcomes are a top reason for which individuals delay the use of resources. Presidents, provosts, deans, and other upper-level administrators in higher education fit common definitions of “elites” in the context of qualitative research. Scholarship on methods specific to the field of higher education has not identified or described the unique challenges of interviewing these and other elites. The purpose of this paper is to examine challenges and share strategies for elite interviewing, with specific application to qualitative research in the field of higher education. We provide three examples of empirical studies involving elite interviewing and, using literature from other fields, highlight challenges and strategies. The terms “thanatourism” and “dark tourism” relate to visiting places of human tragedy, which are increasingly developed as tourist destinations. There is a need to trouble thanatouristic assumptions through sharing and discussing lived experiences. These challenge the simplistic mechanistic marketing and conventional research practices of thanatourism. This dialogic autoethnographic study responds to this need, addressing thanatourism from the subjective and emotional perspectives of “insider” scholar-participant-consumers. Two interactive dialogic stories are presented by the lead and second authors, with the fourth providing a theoretically informed response. To do so, the current study researched secondary sources from a historical perspective, political theories regarding the causes of war, and primary sources from individuals involved in the build-up to conflict. Previous research by historians and political scientists have mainly attributed the causes of the French and Indian War to a security dilemma and the spiral theory of war. Integrating concepts and techniques from ethnomethodology and sociomaterialism, this article investigates the observable material processes involving human action and place-based contexts of language use enabled by locative media. The focal pedagogical intervention utilized mobile augmented reality (AR) activities, the development of which was inspired by research on learning ‘in the wild.’ Applying the principle of reverse engineering, we introduce a pedagogical approach termed ‘rewilding’ for its emphasis on designing supportive conditions for goal-directed interaction outside of classrooms. The testimonies session was an interactive listening and dialogue event in which attendees listened together to stories submitted in advance that documented the Black student experience on campus. The goal of the session was to convene student staff and faculty to engage in a generative and critical conversation motivated by actual experiences. In attendance were students, staff, and faculty; together, we listened to four audio clips submitted by current and former students who narrated campus experiences. This documents details the purpose, accountabilities, and timeline for IDEA 2.0, a group of university library staff who focus on active interrogation of existing policies and practices. The group works to ensure that the library’s policies and practices do not reinforce existing inequitable power structures with an early focus on white supremacy culture, but not to the exclusion of other inequities such as patriarchy, ableism, and others. IDEA 2.0 acts as a guiding body to establish best practices and mechanisms of accountability.

Shepherd is a double graduate of Ouachita, having earned a bachelor’s degree in religion and a master’s degree in education. He earned his doctorate in higher education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He previously served at Ouachita for 29 years in such roles as assistant to the dean of students, director of Student Support Services, director of TRiO Programs, assistant to the president for special programs and university compliance officer.

To respond proactively to the pandemic, the Libraries moved many services and programs online. Providing online services is nothing new for librarians; using the technologies available to replicate and improve on the outcomes these services have on student learning has required creativity and new ways of thinking. To this end, we have increased our use of Zoom, Slack, and YouTube to offer support, allowing students to interact in ways that mimic F2F library services. This dissertation offers an ethnographic account of how indigenous Kichwa tour guides in Napo, Ecuador, the vast majority of whom are young men, negotiate the demands and expectations of the ecotourism industry and how, in the process, they produce and enact new understandings of their ethnic, gendered, and sexual identities. These new understandings are reproductive of outsiders’ expectations and fantasies about indigenous Amazonians, as well as personally and culturally meaningful. In this presentation to the 2021 Electronic Resources & Libraries Conference (delivered online on March 11, 2021), I described the challenges involved in identifying the correct package (or collection or database) in a library knowledge base such as multiple entries with very similar names; incorrect number of holdings; or incorrect URLs (links). Drawing from experience using the EBSCO Holdings and Link Management kb and preparing to migrate to Alma, I developed concepts for unique package identifiers to improve confidence, efficiency, and accuracy in library workflows and migration and in the discovery layer used by library patrons.

Interestingly, authentic leadership has been proved to have effective practical implications to ensure organizational sustainability. Drawing from authentic leadership theory, this research aims at exploring the direct and indirect effect of authentic leadership on knowledge-management: explicit and tacit knowledge sharing behavior about public libraries in higher educational institutions (HEIs). This research employed an affective commitment mechanism to mediate the relationship between authentic leadership and knowledge-management.
