The Economic Impact Of Natural Gas Unitization In West Virginia, Eric Bowen Feb 2021

The Economic Impact Of Natural Gas Unitization In West Virginia, Eric Bowen

Bureau of Business & Economic Research

In this study, we examine the potential economic impact of instituting a unitization law in West Virginia. The economic impact of natural gas unitization will depend largely on the increase in drilling and production that will come as a result of resource unitization. We define two scenarios whereby drilling activity in West Virginia is assumed to increase by either 5 percent or 10 percent above current levels. We then estimate the additional economic activity from three major sources: well construction, spending due to ongoing production, and royalties paid to rights-holders within the state.

Living In The Crucible: A Qualitative Look At Psychologists’ Perspectives On The Development Of Their Intersectional Lgb-Christian Identities, Colby Hampton

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

Current research has become increasingly focused on examining the nature of intersectional identities. The intersectional identity of being both LGBT and Christian is difficult to maintain. Both communities are often in conflict, and this can create a great amount of distress. Many individuals who struggle to hold the intersectional identity of being LGBT and Christian choose one identity and drop the other. For this study, I examined the experience of psychologists who are able to hold both identities of being LGBT and Christian. I was interested in discovering resiliency factors, and whether graduate psychological training influenced participants’ ability to hold …

For each sign, ASL-LEX now includes a more detailed phonological description, phonological density and complexity measures, frequency ratings (from deaf signers), iconicity ratings (from hearing non-signers and deaf signers), transparency (“guessability”) ratings (from non-signers), sign and videoclip durations, lexical class, and more. We document the steps used to create ASL-LEX 2.0 and describe the distributional characteristics for sign properties across the lexicon and examine the relationships among lexical and phonological properties of signs. Too Unsafe To Monitor? How Board-Ceo Cognitive Conflict And Chair Leadership Shape Outside Director Monitoring, Dennis B. Veltrop, Pieter-Jan Bezemer, Gavin Nicholson, Amedeo Pugliese

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

Research into boards of directors has provided mixed support for the view that outside directors' independence or leadership by an independent chair improves monitoring. In this study, we use a micro-level approach to provide a better understanding of why outside directors have difficulty in monitoring the CEO. We highlight that an important reason for this lies in the boardroom dynamics associated with (a) outside directors' cognitive conflict with the CEO and (b) the chair's leadership of the board. Our inductive analyses of video observations of board meetings in five Australian corporations revealed the importance of chair participative leadership during disagreement …

Gender Identity And Pronoun Usage In Standardized Patient Encounters, Martha M. Popescu, Emily J. Noonan, Laura A. Weingartner Feb 2021

Gender Identity And Pronoun Usage In Standardized Patient Encounters, Martha M. Popescu, Emily J. Noonan, Laura A. Weingartner

Grawemeyer Colloquium Papers

One of the most common documentation frameworks clinicians use for patient evaluations are Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan, (SOAP) notes. The clinician will usually record medical, family, social, etc. history as “subjective” information. Temperature, blood pressure, lab work, etc. would be considered “objective” information. An evaluation of the patient’s health and possible medical issues would be considered the “assessment,” and their intentions for current and future treatment would be the “plan” within these notes. Trainees often write SOAP notes after completing a standardized patient (SP) encounter—an educational practice used in medical schools to simulate real-world physician-patient interactions in order to …

More Barriers Than Solutions: Women’S Experiences Of Support With Online Abuse, Chandell E. Gosse

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Women have long fought for recognition and protection from the violence and abuse against them. This fight has only grown more complex with the introduction of digital technology and online abuse. In this thesis, I adopt a hermeneutic phenomenological approach to understand how 15 women experience barriers to support when they are targeted by online abuse and examine their responses to those barriers. Drawing from a range of theoretical frameworks and literature, this thesis contributes to the current understanding of online violence against women and girls. Overall, I found that participants experienced and responded to barriers to support in three …

Effects On Interpretation Bias, Mood, And Physical Tension During Mobile Device Usage: An Examination Of Slumped, Upright, And Lying Down Postures, Gabriela Flores-Cruz

The Pegasus Review: UCF Undergraduate Research Journal

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of posture on interpretation bias, mood, and physical tension when using a mobile device. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: sitting slumped, sitting upright, or lying down. They were then asked to unscramble emotional and neutral sentences to measure interpretation bias. Self-reported measurements were used to measure mood and physical tension. No significant differences were found in the type of sentence unscrambled when sitting slumped and upright. When lying down, participants unscrambled fewer neutral sentences compared to emotional sentences. Physical tension was found to mediate the relationship …
