Chukwuma Anyanwu: Dramatic Reflections On The Nigerian Society, Aghogho Lucky Imiti Jan 2021

Chukwuma Anyanwu: Dramatic Reflections On The Nigerian Society, Aghogho Lucky Imiti

International Review of Humanities Studies

Drama performs various roles in the society. One of such roles is the re-presentation of past events. These past events are historical antecedents which a given society is meant to be abreast of in order to cut a proper walking path for the future, either to avoid pitfalls of the past or uphold a certain standard. Likening drama to a mirror, this paper discussed the reflective nature of drama in the Nigerian society. Through the use of the literary method, Chukwuma Anyanwu’s dramatic texts, Stunted Growth, The Battle, Another Weekend, Gone! and Broken Image, were analysed to ascertain how well …

Laos National Identity Change In Perspective Of Re-Orientalism: A Case Study Of The 2020 Laos National Tourism Video, Lee Yeonkyung

International Review of Humanities Studies

The formation of national identity by the Lao government has been unsuccessful due to globalization since 2000. The Lao government realized this and decided to shift its focus to the economic dimension as a means to unite the Lao people. In the 2000s, the West had a major influence on Laos representation, but after the 2008 economic crisis in the United States, Laos prioritize the trade with China and South Korea. As the global economic environment changed, Laos needed to attract the attention of Asian tourists. In this situation, re-orientalism becomes a cultural strategy exclusive to Asian countries. Simultaneously, re-orientalism …

Rethinking The Humanities In The Context Of Intertexuality And Adaptations Within The Diasporic Construct, Saint E. T. Gbilekaa, Olympus G. Ejue Ph.D

International Review of Humanities Studies

Drastic socio/political and economic changes in the world have perhaps led to global mass migration, transcontinental transport or scattering of people away from their established or ancestral homeland. This obviously explains the vitality that has characterized the creative impetus of intertextuality and adaptation mechanics used by certain Nigerian diaspora dramatists over the years as group identity formation and social pattern of identity politics and cultural belonging in expressing universal human concerns. The question however is; has the adaptation of classical or historical plays to the dawn of modern play texts by Nigerian diaspora dramatists reinforced the Nigerian culture? The condition …

Representations Of Foreigners And Japanese National Identity At The 1964 Olympics In Idaten, Himawan Pratama

International Review of Humanities Studies

The 2020 Olympics are not Tokyo's first experience of hosting the Games. Previously, the city hosted the 1964 Olympics. This historical background generated nostalgia for the 1964 Olympics ahead of the 2020 Olympics. The 1964 Olympics are remembered for exposing Japanese society to various interactions with foreigners, which eventually provided the setting for expressions of Japanese national identity through comparisons between "us" (Japanese) and "them" (foreigners). In this sense, representations of foreigners, and their roles as essential elements of Japanese national identity discourse, have been the integral parts of 1964 Olympics nostalgia. Ahead of the 2020 Olympics, numerous popular culture …

Evaluating The Trustworthiness Of Online Sources: Assessment For Students Of Universitas Indonesia, Yasmine Anabel Pandjaitan

International Review of Humanities Studies

In 2019’s presidential election in Indonesia, the Internet was flooded by unverified and contradicting claims, which only blurred the lines between fact, opinion, and straight-out hoax. This research investigates how an educated group (college students) evaluates online sources in the context of Indonesia’s political campaigns. An assessment was designed for the students to judge the credibility of five political news articles appearing online in April 2019, the election month. The framework used was inspired by similar assessments conducted by the Stanford History Education Group, researchers who study digital literacy among American students. For this research, fifty students from five faculties …

Phase Locked Loop Using Vlsi Technology: A Bibliometric Survey And Future Research Directions, Ujwala Kshirsagar, Ayushi Kamboj Ms.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

: For the design of high frequency networks power has been one of the most significant specifications. Power usage is therefore one of the most significant challenges to microprocessor design. If we lower the supply voltage, this immediately leads to a decrease in static and dynamic power usage in order to reduce the circuit's power dissipation. Decreasing the voltage of the supply, however, often decreases the circuit's output, which is not reasonable.

The low power proposed phase locked loop (PLL) is therefore built using microwind 3.1, 45nm CMOS/VLSI technology, which, in practice, at low power, delivers high intensity output. The …

In the weeks following the murder of George Floyd by police officer Derek Chauvin, half a million Americans participated in nationwide protests to demand an end to the use of excessive force against Black Americans by police. The continuous airing of coronavirus updates were suddenly replaced by media coverage of growing social unrest: footage of …

The Basha's Tools? Imagining Alternative Justice Futures In Egypt, Farah Ghazal Jan 2021

The Basha's Tools? Imagining Alternative Justice Futures In Egypt, Farah Ghazal

Theses and Dissertations

The dominant approach to addressing violence against women in Egypt today is carceral, or relying on the punitive instruments of the state to achieve justice (most visibly represented by the prison and police). While carceral responses are perhaps unsurprisingly advocated by state feminism, they are also promoted by what would typically be described as anti-state actors. This paradoxical entanglement takes place during what I identify as the 'carceral moment', a period marked by the intensification of political and social repression and during which incarceration appears more readily available as a solution to remedy perceived problems of governance. I argue that, …
