BlueBird Bio is a biotechnology multinational corporation (MNC), with headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, specializing in gene therapy solutions for autoimmune diseases and cancer. The company was recently approved, in Germany, for their new drug Zynteglo for the treatment of betta thalassemia. This approval opened the door for further investment in the European market, starting with the contracting of Apceth Biopharma and purchases of new land and equipment to establish a permanent residence in the country. Tobacco use remains a global problem, and as a demographic group, adolescents are at a high risk of its adverse effects. In addition, disparities exist in strategies to address tobacco control, particularly among youth from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. The health risks associated with tobacco use provide a compelling reason for all nations to prioritize addressing and regulating its use and providing sustainable funding sources for training healthcare professionals and others under Article 14 of the World Health Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Could Deglobalization Kill Transnational Cooperation? A Brief Historical Lesson, Virág Rab

The study examines a historical period referred to in the literature as deglobalization. After the First World War, economic nationalism gained ground in some countries, mainly for political reasons, characterized by protectionist economic policies and the pursuit of autarchy/self-sufficiency. There were no international regulations or well-functioning international institutions that would have facilitated economic cooperation. How did those who worked hard to reconstruct the European economy react to this situation? This study presents this through the process of developing an informal network of bankers, and it indirectly highlights some important links between informal networks, globalization, and deglobalization.

Worries about one’s health, while ubiquitous, can for some become quite distressing. Health anxiety occurs when one becomes focused on symptoms and fears they may become ill or die. This often overtakes their life due to continued worry. They often spend an inordinate amount of time and effort to seek answers. Other aspects of their life are placed in the periphery or abandoned. Traditional approaches are aimed at symptom relief. While effective for some, others continue to struggle. A more novel approach that aims to look at the client both holistically and individualistically can address much more than symptom amelioration.

The latest U.S. Census Bureau listed an increase in ethnic and racial diversity in the United States. Contributing to this are the growing statistics of refugees and immigrants whose intrapersonal experiences vary from the mainstream culture. Considering this growth, it is vital that counseling supervisors are aware of various cultures, ethnicity, social, and spiritual experiences of supervisees in training in order to provide ethical and competent supervision. This paper discusses supervisory issues, directions and trends, social justice issues, and the use of technology in multicultural supervision.

Development And Validation Of The Optimal Supervision Environment Test (Oset), Ki Byung Chae, Charles R. Mcadams Iii

Journal of Counseling Research and Practice

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the Optimal Supervision Environment Test (OSET), an instrument designed to assess the supervisor’s ability to create an optimal supervision environment. Using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), the initial validation of the OSET has yielded a three-factor model that identifies the following three environmental domains of supervision: the Emotional Environment, the Learning Environment, and the Power Environment. The total scale and each OSET subscale have strong internal consistency (.84 to .90). These results provide initial support for using OSET as a valid and reliable multidimensional supervision instrument.

Counselor, Know Thyself. The Impact Of Mental Health Literacy And Stigma On Stress And Satisfaction In Practicing Counselors, Allison Crowe, Patrick Mullen, Allison Spargo

Journal of Counseling Research and Practice

As a professional counselor, awareness of one’s attitudes, biases, and assumptions is critical. Previous research has demonstrated that counselors are not immune to stigma nor to negative attitudes towards mental illness and seeking professional services when concerns arise. Furthermore, researchers have begun to explore relationships between mental health literacy and stigma and how these impact stress and satisfaction levels. To examine these variables in practicing counselors, the current study surveyed a total of 145 participants. Findings from this research indicated that higher levels of self-stigma and negative attitudes towards help-seeking predicted greater levels of stress and less life satisfaction. Mental …

As the student population becomes more diverse in the United States (Human Rights Campaign, 2018; National Center for Education Statistics, 2018), school counselors (SCs) are also called upon to provide comprehensive school counseling programs to meet the needs of all students (ASCA, 2019). In addition to following the profession’s national model, the American School Counseling Association’s Ethical Standards (2016) provide a set of guidelines including specific language aimed at providing culturally competent counseling services to students and stakeholders. On Tuesday Dec. 1, 2020, Karen Sieber, the Humanities Specialist at the Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center, presented a talk called “Tarred and Feathered: UMaine’s Hidden Connection to the Red Summer of 1919.” The Red Summer occurred during the year of 1919 and was in reference to nationwide widespreadviolence against Black people, but particularly Black men. Sieber is a historian and specializes in both public history and the digital humanities. This experiencecombined with her own thirst for knowledge led her to begin to create an archive to document this time in history after a trip to Knoxville, Tennessee.

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries (UT Libraries) utilizes research guides as supplemental training resources, educational tools, and community enrichment aids to support health literacy. This article illustrates case studies of three UT Libraries research guides that provide consumer health information, breaking down each research guide’s development, facilitation, and purpose. As a training resource, the Cultural Competency Guide works to support the course curriculum. The Introduction to Health Sciences Research Guide serves as an educational tool by establishing foundational information for consumer health assimilation. The lack of resources in classrooms are evident around the world, but in this poster, the focus is on the state of Virginia. Teachers are struggling to teach with barely any resources or money, and the students are attempting to learn with little to no supplies. If schools continue to under supply teachers, the students and teachers are going to fall behind. Teachers will not be in the best moods, and the students will suffer. After a summer of protests sparked by police brutality, the United States remains divided on this most important issue. This paper will seek to contextualize this country’s situation to explain that these protests stem from a history of inequality, in order to argue against claims that the protests are unjustified. With a multidisciplinary approach, we can begin to observe just how unequal this country is and understand what drives so many people to protest during the middle of a global pandemic.
