Quantitative Description Of The Pastoral Economy Of Western Tuvan Nomads, Paul L. Hooper Dec 2020

Quantitative Description Of The Pastoral Economy Of Western Tuvan Nomads, Paul L. Hooper

ESI Publications

Nomadic pastoralism persists at a substantial scale in Tuva and neighboring regions of Inner Asia. Tuvan pastoral lifeways reflect adaptations to both local environments and current economic realities. Much of our quantitative understanding of the economics of Tuvan nomads is derived from data collected in the first half of the 20th century. Accordingly, this paper provides an updated picture of the inner workings of nomadic households using data collected in Barun-Khemchik and Bai-Taiga provinces in 2013–2015. It analyzes herd composition and size, and compares the frequency of different animals kept today with values recorded in Tuva in 1916 and 1931. …

Impact Of Homeless Youth: How Does It Affect School Development?, Rena Dornfeld

Counselor Education Capstones

Studies have been conducted on the effects homelessness has on youth. According to the National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE, 2020) in the state of Minnesota from 2017- 2018 school year, there were 16,668 homeless youth individuals who were enrolled in public schools. If that number is not daunting, according to the National Center on Family Homelessness (NCFH, 2020), 2.5 million children are now homeless each year in the United States. Family and children homelessness is a crisis, and unfortunately not getting the attention it deserves. In 2013, the rate of homelessness of youth rose 8%, and since 2015, homelessness …

Are Countries With Higher Levels Of Mental Health Cases Experience Higher Divorce Rates?, Liu Ying Wong, Yi Pei Goh

Introduction to Research Methods RSCH 202

This paper aims to determine if spouses’ mental health can be a factor affecting the divorce rate of marriage. A regression analysis is carried out to determine how the percentage of mental health cases in a country’s population affects the divorce rates of a country, while controlling the effects of labour force participation and income. The data from the selected 20 countries are collected from reputable world organizations selected. The results obtained from the regression analysis show that mental health has a marginally significant association with divorce rate and the association between income index and divorce rate is statistically significant.

The Relationship Between Early Discharge Planning And Length Of Stay, Kandiss Hearn

MSN Capstone Projects

Discharge planning (DCP) and early discharge intervention has proven to have a direct effect on reducing hospital length of stay (LOS), reducing readmissions, reducing patient morbidity, improving patient satisfaction and possibly reducing patient healthcare cost. The proposed question is as follows: In adult hospitalized patients (P), how does discharge planning within the first 24 hours of admission (I) compared to late …

Embracing Every Ability, Jacksiel Colon Dec 2020

Embracing Every Ability, Jacksiel Colon

Sociology

With time continuing, American education has progressively improved. Though there still remains much-needed improvement and some of that stands in the way of equality within the education system. Special education and special needs students experience inequality with accessibility, funding, and educational quality, on top of daily barriers due to personal limitations. Data from the 2006 General Social Survey (N=652), asked individuals to identify whether they had a mental/emotional disability. They were asked to assess federal spending on education. This study focuses on the factors encouraging individuals to support or not support increased spending on the education system. Mental/emotional ability, affiliated …

Emotion Work At Work: The Effects Of Race And Employment Status On Emotion Management In Women, Emma Vidovich

Sociology Senior Seminar Papers

This study explores the impact of race and employment status on the degree of women’s emotion management. Drawing on Hochschild’s theory of emotional labor and feeling rules as well as Kanter’s theory of tokenism, I hypothesize that nonwhite women as well as employed women will report higher levels of emotion management than white women or unemployed women. I utilize data from the 1996 General Social Survey, due to their special module on emotions from that year. After creating a female-only subset and an Emotion Management Scale, which includes data from several questions from the emotion module, I run a regression …

Poetry Writing: A Process Of Finding One’S Own Voice, Marcelo S. Pagliarussi

The Qualitative Report

This article presents, in the form of a free-verse poem, the trajectory by which the author discovered how to unleash his voice as an academic writer. The poem describes how the author became completely disillusioned with the processes and products of mainstream academic journals in accounting and business, and how the discovery, by serendipity, of a chapter presenting writing as a method of inquiry, by Richardson and St. Pierre, invigorated his academic career. Then, inspired by a series of letters written by the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke, the author presents a writing process that may be useful for other …

Source Of Information: Between Domination And Threat To Impoverish Perspective Of Local Public, Efi Fadilah, Atwar Bajari, Asep Suryana, Nik Norma Nik Hasan

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The use of information sources in the information gathering process for news media content is very crucial in the context of its role and function as an instrument in building citizen literacy. However, in cases where the local news media is relatively highly dependent on local government, many critical issues arise. Essentially, the relationship is symbiotic, but in reality, local news media is more dependent on local government. The local government almost functions as the backbone of local news media through its multiple roles; as the source of information, the source of income, and the main market for local media. …
