The Gendered Challenges Of At-Home Learning During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Kaja Bielecka '21
The Gendered Challenges Of At-Home Learning During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Kaja Bielecka '21
Student Scholarship
In mid-March of 2020, schools across New York state faced closures due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Coupled with closures of many workplaces and a general move towards remote work, this unprecedented situation forced families to adapt to the new normal: school, home, and work were now all happening in the same space, at the same time. Parents could no longer rely on schools or outside childcare options to keep their children occupied. While each school district developed its own strategies of teaching children remotely, a common experience was an increased need for parental involvement in children’s everyday …

Behavioral Economic Analysis Of Demand For Hypothetical Work Performance: A Partial Replication, Hifsa Khan
Behavioral Economic Analysis Of Demand For Hypothetical Work Performance: A Partial Replication, Hifsa Khan
McNair Research Journal SJSU
Operant behavioral economics is a field that analyzes human decision making by combining concepts of behavioral psychology and consumer demand theory. A relatively new and effective method of collecting data in behavioral economics is the hypothetical purchase task (HPT), which reveals consumers’ demand for a commodity as price increases by asking participants to respond to hypothetical situations rather than having them work for and consume the commodity. Henley, Reed, Kaplan, and Reed (2016) extended the HPT to create a novel task (the Hypothetical Work Task; HWT) to assess workers’ demand for payment under increasing conditions of work effort. Their study …

The Researched Argument
Research in progress for ENGL 2332: World Literature I
Faculty Mentor: W. Scott Cheney, Ph.D.
The following paper represents work produced by a student in a World Literature I course at Collin College. Students read a selection of texts that survey world literature from the ancient world through the sixteenth century. Because the researched argument requires students to not only read the assigned piece of literature but also to enter into the scholarly conversation about that work in academic journals, successful students like Marie Peteuil find themselves producing advanced writing that shows early preparation for upper-division courses …

This study analyzes the impact of the regulation of Spesific Drugs (OOT) applied to pharmaceutical companies producing OOT in 2018 on the number of OOT production. Using the difference-in-differences (DID) approach method, this study looked at the influence of the 5 (five) OOT groups. The results of this study indicate that there has been a decrease in the amount of OOT production which is also influenced by regulations, an increase in the price of medicinal raw materials (active drug ingredients), and the setting of finished drug prices. The variables that affect decreasing production are the generic drug class for the …

Economic Design Of X̅ Control Chart Under Double Ewma, Manzoor A. Khanday, J. R. Singh
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
Designing of parameters plays an important role in economic design of control charts for lowering the cost and time. Manipulating sample size (n) and sampling interval (h), the effect of double exponentially weighted moving average (DEWMA) model was studied for the Economic Design (ED) of X̅ control chart. Optimum sizes and level were obtained when the characteristics of an item possesses DEWMA model. When shifts are uncertain the optimal design for DEWMA chart should be more conservative and should be implemented for benefiting the consumers as well as producers.

Sugar is a strategic food commodity which is targeted to reach self-sufficiency in 2019 although there are many problems in the Indonesian sugar industry. Sugar self-sufficiency can be realized if domestic sugar production is able to fulfill domestic sugar demand. This study analyzes the factors that influence consumption and production of Indonesian sugar and their implications for the 2019 sugar self-sufficiency target. For white sugar, the estimation using the simultaneous equation system resulted that domestic consumption for white sugar was positively affected by previous year's consumption and domestic production of white sugar was positively affected by sugarcane area and negatively …

The implementation of fiscal decentralization has brought significant changes to the management of public finances in Indonesia. Decentralization has been empirically proven to increase the size of government (ratio of government spending to output). Good institutional quality is considered as an important factor to ensure government spending is effective and able to contribute positively to the economy. This study aims to determine whether the influence of government size on economic growth depends on the quality of the institution. The study uses the level of analysis in 491 districts / municipalities in Indonesia during 2011-2017. Using Ordinary Least Square (OLS) estimation …

Cultivating Virtue: A Thomistic Perspective On The Relationship Between Moral Motivation And Skill, Ashley Potts
Cultivating Virtue: A Thomistic Perspective On The Relationship Between Moral Motivation And Skill, Ashley Potts
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Over the past twenty years, virtue ethics has seen a resurgence of interest in understanding how virtues are cultivated. Philosophers are now teaming up with psychologists to better understand how psychological research on skills can inform us about the relevant kinds of skills that aid in cultivating virtue. However, this promising line of research rests on a heavily-debated philosophical foundation. To what extent are the moral virtues like and/or cultivated by certain kinds of skills? One group of scholars, referred to as the “proponents of the moral motivation objection,” argue that the moral virtues are motivational dispositions that skills not …

Flooding Schools: School Mental Health Providers And The Climate Crisis, Erik J. Reinbergs, Sarah Fefer
International Journal of School Social Work
This study provides an example of using a problem-solving model to explore the impact of the climate crisis on schools. Using publicly available climate change and flooding prediction data, we estimate that by 2100, assuming a “medium” climate change scenario, more than 1677 schools in the coastal United States are expected to flood every year and more than 2262 schools are expected to flood every 10 years. Within the data, “medium” is defined as warming levels that will lead to an estimated five feet of sea level rise by the year 2100. Limitations in the data suggest these numbers are …

At present, there is significant variability in the United States in regards to pre-service education and licensing requirements for school social workers. Studies have suggested that this variability impacts practice and may limit perceptions of the profession. The state of New Mexico requires a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in order to practice as a school social worker but does not require any school-specific coursework, fieldwork, or training. This mixed-methods study describes findings from a survey of 84 school social workers in New Mexico which assessed perceptions of their preparation for practice. Quantitative survey items suggested that participants felt …

An Item Response Theory Analysis Of The Scoff Questionnaire In A Seventh Grade Population, Gerald J. Bean
International Journal of School Social Work
Eating disorders continue to be of concern to school social workers and health and counseling services staff in schools. There is a substantive need for scales that can help to measure both the extent to which eating disorders exist in a school population and to measure risk for specific students. Given that an eating disorder can be chronic and life-altering, early detection of risk is critically important. The aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of a popular eating order screening scale—the SCOFF Questionnaire—in a seventh-grade population using Item Response Theory methods. Epidemiological studies have suggested that …
