Is Central Bank Of Nigeria Pursuing Preferential Development Finance? Some Parametric And Non-Parametric Evidence, Xavier-Itam A. Okon

As encompassing as the development finance interventions of the Central Bank of Nigeria are, there appears to be a preference for the agricultural sector and the manufacturing sub-sector. The study applied the parametric ANOVA and the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis Tests, to inferentially determine whether this is, indeed, the case. Findings, however, indicate that the intervention intensity is equal for all sectors, implying the Bank adopts a holistic, rather than preferential, approach to its development finance practice. This strategically engenders, among others, uniform development, inclusive growth and economic diversification. This paper investigated efficiency gain argument of fiscal federalism and economic growth with evidence from five selected developing federal economies. The curiosity is to ascertain whether the efficiency gain –the fundamental argument why countries adopt fiscal federalism is justified in these economies. The paper uses stochastic frontier model to achieve this objective. The evidence from the selected developing federal economies revealed diverging results. While in Nigeria, Ethiopia and India there is more expenditure decentralization than revenue decentralization suggesting that efficiency gains from fiscal federalism may remain elusive, in Brazil and South Africa there is more revenue decentralization than expenditure decentralization …

The study analyzed the impact of external debt on Nigeria's agricultural production from 1980 to 2016 using secondary data obtained from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statistical bulletin and the World Development Indicators (WDI). Augmented DickeyFuller unit root test and the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bound testing approach to co-integration were utilized, to achieve the objectives of the study. Empirical results revealed that the variables were cointegrated, indicating that they exhibited long run relationship, both in the short and the long run. External debt stock (EDS) had a significant positive impact on agricultural production (AGP), indicating that EDS positively impacted …

Taking cognizant of Nigeria's recent policies toward translating growth to meaningful development, this study aimed at analysing causality amid economic growth and development using annual series from 1960-2019.The study engaged vector autoregressive method by embracing Toda and Yamamoto 1995 model. The results reveals a bidirectional causality between economic growth and dependency ratio; population growth rate and economic growth and also it reveals the evidence of uni-directional causality from dependency ratio to life expectancy and from population growth to life expectancy. But economic growth and life expectancy as well as dependency ratio and life expectancy does not present evidence of causality.

Students are facing an increasingly chaotic world in part due to global climate change and environmental degradation, causing rising levels of stress and anxiety. Mindfulness and sustainability programs were initiated over three years by a faculty-librarian collaborative team to assist first-year engineering students in building environmental literacy and personal resilience skills. The faculty-librarian team established in class and out of class themes, games, assignments, and programming using an embedded librarian approach. Sustainability programming included environmental movie nights with curricular links and conversations about climate change using the World Café methodology. The study examines the determinants of fiscal balance and the impact of the selected macroeconomic variables on the primary balance of government. It aims to estimate the fiscal reaction function for Nigeria and determine whether the implementation of fiscal policy is sustainable in the long-run. A Fiscal Reaction model was developed and ARDL technique was used to establish the relationships and interactions among the variables. The study investigated whether the fiscal measures pursued by the government from 2000:Q1 to 2018:Q4 was adequate in addressing the accumulation of huge debt. The purpose of this experimental study investigates whether racial salience in Black populations determines one’s liking of Black women’s natural hair through a sample of 33 male and female college students. Racial salience is a predictor of racial identification. Furthermore, racial identity in ethnic minorities is positively correlated with self-esteem. Because racial identity is associated with self-esteem, individuals who do not have adequate self-esteem are less likely to reject imposed Eurocentric beauty standards and will therefore struggle to embrace Afrocentric phenotypes such as natural hair. The Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) in partnership with the University of New Orleans’ (UNO) Political Science Department undertook a study to gain insights on the impact the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is having on nonprofit organizations located in Southeast Louisiana and to share this information as a resource to philanthropy, nonprofits, and civic leaders in our region. After Great Britain abolished the slave trade in 1807, the British Royal Navy committed one-fifth of its manpower to the cause of capturing other nations’ illegal slave ships. This effort to enforce abolition liberated 250,000 displaced Africans over the course of the nineteenth century and brought the crews that had carried them before officials to have their cases tried. Because of the careful documentation of these cases by the Mixed Commissions, there is a wealth of primary sources detailing the circumstances of these captures and the human beings claimed as cargo. UMass Boston’s Center for Social and Demographic Research on Aging, and the William Joiner Institute for the Study of War and Social Consequences agreed to assist the Council on Aging and the Veterans Service Office for the Town of Natick to assess the current situation, services, and current and future needs of veterans and their families. This study includes identifying the priority veteran service needs and addressing the challenges to find effective ways to reach more Natick veterans of different eras and sociodemographic backgrounds so they can access needed and desired services, programs, and activities.

The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 prompted the government to take drastic political action, such as the War on Terror, and inspired the American people to feel new cultural anxieties. Literature and popular culture also responded to 9/11 with attempts to make sense of such an unprecedented event. This thesis argues that superhero stories, both in comics and onscreen, are particularly well-suited to deconstruct and critique post-9/11 American society through their depictions of power and the question of how individuals with superpowers fit into society.
