This phenomenological study aimed to understand the experience of compassion fatigue in substance use counselors in Western New York during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many studies have reviewed burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma and have discussed the outcomes of their unmanaged effects on healthcare professionals. Few have focused directly on the impact that key contributors of compassion fatigue have on substance abuse disorder (SUD) counselors. This study investigated the integrated impact of Transformational Leadership (TFL), Cross-Sector Collaboration (CSC), and Foundations as Community Catalysts (CFC) within a Salem-based leadership institute. Through a qualitative case study involving 12 leadership institute attendees from 2020-2023, I explored the perceived presence of each of the three components, as well as their transformative potential in organizational and community change. I also examined participants’ perceived strengths and weaknesses of the leadership institute. All participants were able to see the presence of TFL, CSC, and CFC, and their combination resulted in collaboration, deep relationships, and a change in mindsets. The findings suggest that …

The COVID-19 pandemic created a societal recalculation based on a situation where mass populations were sent into isolation. Research noted the need for meaningfulness and intimacy creating a psychological imbalance that resulted in withdrawal from work and a reinvestment in higher priorities, called the Great Resignation. These cascading effects continue to negatively impact morale and performance, something that U.S. Special Operations cannot afford as the premier global combatant command. These articles brought to the forefront the question of disparity in arrest rates for darker-skinned people. Questioning arrest disparity is understandable because virtually everything known about disproportionate arrest rates has been a guess, and virtually all prior research on disproportionate arrest rates is questionable because of improper benchmarking (the denominator effect). The purpose of this study was to add to the dated literature by evaluating police patrol officers' perceptions of juvenile offenders. This study assessed the perceptions of police patrol officers, n=132, from various police departments in the United States. The quantitative design used a survey with responses measured on a four-point Likert scale. SPSS was used to perform a one-way ANOVA to test four hypotheses that predicted differences in individuals' perceptions of juvenile offenders due to their years of experience as a police patrol officer, education level, gender, and age (Hal- Ha4). The mpox virus outbreak (formerly known as monkeypox) in the United States created an urgent need to inform vaccination acceptance and uptake interventions. We quantitatively examined the association of the Health Belief Model, demographic, and sexual behavioral factors with men who have sex with men (MSM) getting the mpox vaccine. We qualitatively explored MSM’s perceived barriers to obtaining the mpox vaccine. A convenience sample of MSM in the United States (n = 554) completed a mixed-method online cross-sectional survey. The BYU Library has created an Inclusive Metadata Policy for metadata creators to use when creating and remediating descriptions to be more inclusive. Accompanying the policy is a companion document with recommendations and examples, including links to many external resources. In addition to working with stakeholders in the library to develop the policy, we consulted with the University’s Office of Belonging. Over 1 in 4 Americans are disabled (26.8%), yet health disparities for this subpopulation remain under-addressed. Tackling health disparities for people with disabilities requires effective public health and disability policies that cannot be developed without standardized and accurate disability data. The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) annually collects data on health outcomes for the non-institutionalized U.S. population, including those with disabilities. These feline personality factors were previously identified and validated by Mikkola et al. (2021) on a large sample of domestic cat guardians. Band ratios using remote imagery can be useful for monitoring large bodies of water when high quality imagery is available. Sentinel-2 satellite imagery provides frequent, high-resolution coverage of the globe. This study set out to test the usefulness of existing band ratios for estimating chlorophyll a (CHL-a), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and turbidity with Sentinel-2 imagery. USGS in-situ data was matched to Sentinel-2 imagery of Beaver Lake, Arkansas taken August 2015 to July 2019 and the dark spectrum fitting (DSF) atmospheric correction method in ACOLITE was applied to generate surface reflectance values. In this practice brief, we outline our research focused on grandparents raising grandchildren in Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada. Specifically, we highlight a series of collaborative community workshops implemented as part of our research project. Using a participatory action research approach, we worked with grandparents raising grandchildren to co-design and implement the workshops, which we titled It Takes a Village to Raise a Grandchild. These workshops brought together grandparents raising grandchildren and key community members, including clergy, educators, healthcare providers, politicians, social services, child services, and researchers.
