An Improved Source Of Spin-Polarized Electrons Based On Spin Exchange In Optically Pumped Rubidium Vapor, K. J. Ahrendsen, Kenneth Wayne Trantham, D. Tupa, T. J. Gay
Department of Physics and Astronomy: Faculty Publications
We have improved a polarized electron source in which unpolarized electrons undergo collisions with a mixture of buffer gas molecules and optically spin-polarized Rb atoms. With a nitrogen buffer gas, the source reliably provides spin polarization between 15% and 25% with beam currents >4 μA. Vacuum pump upgrades mitigate problems caused by denatured diffusion pump oil, leading to longer run times. A new differential pumping scheme allows the use of higher buffer gas pressures up to 800 mTorr. With a new optics layout, the Rb polarization is continuously monitored by a probe laser and improved pump laser power provides more …

Search For Magnetoelectric Monopole Response In Cr2O3 Powder, Syed Qamar Abbas Shah, Ather Mahmood, Arun Parthasarathy, Christian H. Binek
Department of Physics and Astronomy: Faculty Publications
Powder samples have been suggested as a pathway to fabricate isotropic magnetoelectric (ME) materials which effectively only have a pseudoscalar or monopole ME response. We demonstrate that random distribution of ME grains alone does not warrant isotropic ME response because the activation of a nonvanishing ME response requires a ME field cooling protocol which tends to induce preferred axes.We investigate the evolution of ME susceptibility in powder chromia samples for various ME field cooling protocols both theoretically and experimentally. In particular, we work out the theoretical expressions for ME susceptibility for powder chromia in the framework of statistical mechanics where …

Simulation Optimization And Applications Of Pressure-Preserved Triggering Device For Coring In Deep Coal Mines, Shi Xiaojun, Li Minghui, Liu Guikang, You Zhenxi, Guo Lihua, Hou Lele, Zhao Xiang
Coal Geology & Exploration
The pressure-preserved controller is the core component of pressure- and gas-preserved coring equipment used in deep coal mines. Its pressure-preserved capability and sealing performance are the key to pressure- and gas-preserved coring technology. Given that the existing pressure-preserved controller exhibits low initial sealing specific pressure and poor sealing performance when its initial sealing force is provided only by gravity, this study innovatively designed a pressure-preserved triggering device for coring, aiming to provide initial sealing specific pressure required for the sealing of the pressure-preserved controller. Then, this study conducted numerical simulations of the operating process of the triggering device using the …

A Preliminary Study Of Pressure-Preserved Coring Calculation Principle And Method For In-Situ Pressure In Deep Coal Seams, Cui Pengfei, Gao Mingzhong, Shang Delei, Li Jianhua, Chu Peng, Song Jie, Li Yongcheng, Hao Haichun
Coal Geology & Exploration
The accurate acquisition of in-situ gas pressure in coal seams is a key link in the chain of the prevention and control of gas disasters. Presently, it is still necessary to explore accurate, low-cost, and time-saving methods for determining gas pressure. Based on the in-situ pressure-preserved coring for deep coal seams, this study proposed a calculation method for in-situ gas pressure in deep coal seams and developed the calculation process. Using the constructed numerical model of the gas pressure evolution in the pressure-preserved space, this study verified the reliability of the proposed method by comparison with the theoretical and numerical …

Fractal Theory-Based Permeability Model Of Fracture Networks In Coals, Xia Binwei, Liao Chuanbin, Luo Yafei, Ji Kainan
Coal Geology & Exploration
Fractures in coal reservoirs, which act as the major seepage pathways for coalbed methane (CBM), determine the permeability and CBM productivity of coal reservoirs. Research on the relationships between fracture structures and reservoir permeability is of great theoretical and practical significance for the accurate prediction of CBM productivity. Based on the classical cubic law-based permeability model, as well as the fractal theory, fracture network structures, and effective stress, this study built a permeability model containing complex bending fractures, which was then combined with the S & D (Shi-Durucan) model to build the permeability model of fractured coals under the action …

A Method For Classification Of Surrounding Rock Based On The Excavatability Performance And Adaptability Of Tunnel Boring Machines And Its Applications, Liu Jiawei, Zhang Sheng, Chen Zhao, Yang Zhanbiao, Ji Panjun, Wei Yonghui
Coal Geology & Exploration
The varying geological conditions of the surrounding rocks of coal mine roadways influence the wide application of full-face rock tunnel boring machines (TBMs). Therefore, accurately assessing the excavatability of rock masses in coal mines and the rock adaptability of TBMs is crucial for the efficient operation of TBMs. Based on the evaluation results of the parameters and excavatability of rock masses, this study built a classification model for rock mass excavatability using the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). Furthermore, combining the correlation analysis between the [BQ] values of different geological conditions and the utilization ratio …

Preparation And Application Of Caffeic Acid Imprinted Polymer, Şeyda Karaman Ersoy, Esma Tütem, Kevser Sözgen Başkan, Mustafa Reşat Apak
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In the present study, molecularly imprinted polymers were synthesized using caffeic acid (CA) as a template molecule and then used for the extraction of CA and chlorogenic acid (CLA) from complex matrices. Syntheses were carried out in tetrahydrofuran as porogenic solvent using 4-vinyl pyridine, methacrylic acid, acrylamide, and 1-vinyl imidazole as monomers, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker and 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. In polymerization processes, different ratios of the template:monomer:crosslinker (T:M:CrL) were used to obtain the most suitable polymer. Caffeic acid:4-vinylpiridine:ethylene glycol dimethacrylate's 1:4:16 mole ratio of MIP was determined as the most convenient polymer for CA recognition. In addition, nonimprinted …

Development And Benchmark Of A 1d3v Electrostatic Pic/Mcc Numerical Code For Gas Discharge Simulations, İbrahi̇m Arda, İsmai̇l Rafatov
Turkish Journal of Physics
Gas discharge plasmas are low-temperature nonequilibrium plasmas that have a wide range of scientific and technological applications. The particle-in-cell/Monte Carlo collision (PIC/MCC) method is a reliable approach for numerical analyses and simulations of such plasmas. In this study, we first provide a detailed description of the basics of this method. We then verify the programme code that we developed in Fortran by benchmarking the code against a widely referred reference study simulating a radiofrequency capacitively coupled plasma (RFCCP) in helium for various discharge conditions. We show that the results of the present study are in good agreement with that of …

Simulation Of Pedestrian Emergency Evacuation Considering Terrorist Attack Mode, Shuchao Cao, Jialong Qian
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To investigate pedestrian evacuation under the sudden terrorist attack, an evacuation model is established for pedestrians taking into account the terrorist attack mode. The terrorist can take two strategies including attacking the nearest pedestrian and attacking the crowd in the model. The evacuation time, casualties and location distribution in various scenarios under different attack modes are analyzed. The results show that pedestrians need to maintain a proper escape intention when avoiding the terrorist. The closer the initial position of the terrorists to the exit, the greater the number of casualties and the longer the evacuation time. The effect of …

Abstract: Compared with the text recognition in conventional fields, it is difficult to recognize the large number of nested named entities in professional terms. This is also one of the care challenges in building the knowledge graph in aerospace field. For the named entity recognition technologies, bidirectional long short-term memory network plus conditional random field (BiLSTM-CRF) is often used to identify entities, which is difficult to distinguish the complex relationships such as nesting and intersection of terms in missile field. In order to solve the problem, based on the nested entity labeling of domain text, a nested named entity recognition …

The field of quantum resource theory (QRT) has emerged as an invaluable framework for the examination of small and strongly correlated quantum systems, surpassing the boundaries imposed by traditional statistical treatments. The fundamental objective of general QRTs is to characterize these systems by precisely quantifying the level of control attainable to an experimenter. In this review article, we refrain from providing an exhaustive summary of the extensive literature on QRT. Rather, our focus centers on a specific subliterature founded upon the theory of majorization. The primary aim is to augment our comprehension of genuine quantum phenomena manifested across diverse technological …

Cascade molecules are nearly uniform-sized macromolecules of small molecules or linear polymer cores built around symmetric branching units. A wide range of biological properties can be achieved with phosphorus-containing dendrimers, depending on their terminal functions, ranging from biomaterials to imaging, drug delivery, and acting as a drug by themselves. This feature article presents significant examples of phosphorus-containing dendrimers used to develop biochips, support cell cultures, carry or deliver biomacromolecules and drugs, bioimaging, and combinational benefits. Because of the thermal stability, ferrocene function, and physical and chemical properties of phosphorus, dendrimers show greater rigidity, mobility, and strength. These dendrimers will be …
