Hydrogels are of interest for a wide range of applications including drug delivery, regenerative medicine, agriculture, and personal care products. Among the water-soluble synthetic polymers that can be processed to form hydrogels, oligo[poly(ethylene glycol) fumarate] (OPF) has attracted significant attention. The degradation of OPF can be tuned to some extent based on the poly(ethylene glycol) chain length and amount of cross-linker incorporated, but the degradation is generally quite slow, occurring over several months. High Resolution Intracavity Laser Absorption Spectroscopy Of Transition Metal-Containing Diatomic Molecules, Kristin Bales

Three transition metal-containing diatomic molecules have been studied using intracavity laser spectroscopy. Many of the transitions were recorded using a Fourier-transform spectrometer for detection, allowing collection at Doppler-limited resolution for the gas phase molecules. Several vibrational bands in two electronic transition systems of tantalum fluoride (TaF) have been analyzed, and new molecular constants provided. Transitions involving six electronic states of tungsten sulfide (WS) have been analyzed, with new and updated constants provided, including a deperturbation analysis of three vibrational bands in two of the states. After the reunification of Germany fertilisation with P and K was strongly reduced in the eastern states of Germany due to the poor financial situation of the farms. Particularly on sites with a low nutrient delivery capacity, such a nutrient management strategy implies the risk of decreasing soil fertility. On a low moor soil with permanent grassland a 4 - year trial with different N and K fertilisation was set up to study the development of dry matter production and K concentrations in the grass.

In this paper, we explore how to use topological tools to compare dimension reduction methods. We first make a brief overview of some of the methods often used in dimension reduction such as isometric feature mapping, Laplacian Eigenmaps, fast independent component analysis, kernel ridge regression, and t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding. We then give a brief overview of some of the topological notions used in topological data analysis, such as barcodes, persistent homology, and Wasserstein distance. Refactoring is modifying a program without changing its external behavior. In this paper, we make the concept of external behavior precise for a simple answer set programming language. Secretion of siderophores by Pseudomonas aeruginosa F2 and P. fluorescens JY3 was evaluated on chrome azurol S (CAS) agar plates and their inhibitory effect was inspected against Fusarium oxysporum and Rhizoctonia solani. Production of siderophores as biocontrol agents from F2 and JY3 was accomplished in two optimized media. Afterward, cell-free supernatants of the bacterial cultures containing siderophores were used for the preparation of two bio-friendly formulations for the management of F. oxysporum and R. solani under greenhouse conditions. Surface urban heat islands (SUHIs) are land surfaces with high concentrations of impervious surfaces like roofs, roads, sidewalks and other infrastructures that trap, absorb, and re-emit heat throughout the day/night and typically present higher temperatures than their surrounding rural areas. In this study, I evaluate how presence of and distance to SUHIs are associated with water temperature in the lower Chesapeake Bay watershed for the summer of 2019. When heavy precipitation events occur, flooding creates stormwater runoff, which is exposed to the hotter temperatures in urban areas. This work details the effort toward structure-activity-relationship (SAR) studies and synthesis of the small molecule modulators of two non-traditional drug targets. The first part of this manuscript (chapters 1–2) will discuss the collaborative work and synthesis of an inhibitor of Slingshot Homology 1 (SSH1) with the potential therapeutic application toward Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) treatment. The second part (chapters 3–6) will discuss the synthetic efforts toward modulation of a protein target known as STING, or stimulator of interferon genes, with the therapeutic application toward autoimmune disease or anti-tumor activity.

Linear stability and weakly nonlinear stability analyses are developed for Rayleigh–Bénard convection in water near 3.98 °C subject to isothermal boundary conditions. The density–temperature relationship (equation of state) is approximated by a cubic polynomial, including linear, quadratic, and cubic terms. The continuity equation, the Navier–Stokes momentum equation, the equation of state, and the energy equation constitute the governing system. Linear stability analysis is used to investigate how the maximum density property of water affects the onset of convective instability and the choice of unstable wave number for four different types of boundary conditions. The complex vertebrate ecosystem of the Late Triassic has not yet been fully understood, largely due to oversimplification of hypothesized trophic hierarchies and limited preservation of direct evidence of faunal interaction. Paleocommunity reconstruction attempts can also fall victim to taphonomic biases, time-averaging inaccuracies, and non-analogue paleoecologies. Utilizing a combination of PAIRS analysis and NMDS ordination, we highlight vertebrate faunal relationships within the Adamanian and Revueltian faunachrons of Petrified Forest National Park, assess the likelihood that these patterns have ecological rather than preservational drivers, and examine how these potential interactions may have been impacted by the Adamanian-Revueltian turnover event. The paper presents the analysis of the results of geophysical surveys conducted in the mining area located in Bytom – Karb (USCB, Poland) in the aspect of identifying the causes of significant damage to the complex of inhabited tenement houses which occurred in 2011. The surveys were carried out by microgravimetric and GPR methods. The construction disaster was caused by the exploitation of one of the hard coal seams at a depth of about 800 m along the mining longwall running underneath the settlement. Oligomeric Phenylene Ethynylenes (OPEs) are a class of synthetically prepared compounds with the basic structure of phenylene rings connected by triple-bonded carbon atoms, also known as an ethyne link. This structure can be modified by incorporating functional groups onto one or more of the phenylene rings. The addition of functional groups, such as sulfoxide or imidazole, may alter the photophysical properties in detectable ways. The photophysical techniques used in this report include fluorescence, spectroscopy in the ultraviolet and visible light range (UVVIS), and photon-based excitation using a photo chamber.

The first study of the shapes of jets arising from bottom (b) quarks in heavy ion collisions is presented. Jet shapes are studied using charged hadron constituents as a function of their radial distance from the jet axis. Lead-lead (PbPb) collision data at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of √sNN=5.02TeVwere recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 1.69nb−1. Compared to proton-proton collisions, aredistribution of the energy inbjets to larger distances from the jet axis is observed in PbPb collisions. Primary productivity in the coastal regions, linked to eutrophication and hypoxia, provides a critical understanding of ecosystem function. Although primary productivity largely depends on riverine nutrient inputs, estimation of the extent of riverine nutrient influences in the coastal regions is challenging. A nitrogen mass balance model is a practical tool to evaluate coastal ocean productivity to understand biological mechanisms beyond data observations. This study visualizes the biological production zones in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, USA, where hypoxia frequently occurs, by applying a nitrogen mass balance model. Impact craters are used for a wide array of investigations of planetary surfaces. A crater form that is somewhat rare, forming only ∼10% of impact craters, is the polygonal impact crater (or PIC). These craters have been visually, manually identified as having at least two rim segments that are best represented as straight lines. Such straight lines or edges are most often used to infer details about the subsurface crust where faults control the structure of the crater cavity as it formed. In recent years, the technology of glycopeptide sequencing through MS/MS mass spectrometry data has achieved remarkable progress. Various software tools have been developed and widely used for protein identification. Estimation of false discovery rate (FDR) has become an essential method for evaluating the performance of glycopeptide scoring algorithms. The target-decoy strategy, which involves constructing decoy databases, is currently the most popular utilized method for FDR calculation. In this study, we applied various decoy construction algorithms to generate decoy glycan databases and proposed a novel approach to calculate the FDR by using the EM algorithm and mixture model.
