Vulnerabililty Analysis Of Multi-Factor Authentication Protocols, Keith Garrett Jan 2016

Vulnerabililty Analysis Of Multi-Factor Authentication Protocols, Keith Garrett

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis, the author hypothesizes that the use of computationally intensive mathematical operations in password authentication protocols can lead to security vulnerabilities in those protocols. In order to test this hypothesis: 1. A generalized algorithm for cryptanalysis was formulated to perform a clogging attack (a formof denial of service) on protocols that use computationally intensive modular exponentiation to guarantee security. 2. This technique was then applied to cryptanalyze four recent password authentication protocols, to determine their susceptibility to the clogging attack. The protocols analyzed in this thesis differ in their usage of factors (smart cards, memory drives, etc.) or …

Understanding Security Threats In Cloud, Zhang Xu Jan 2016

Understanding Security Threats In Cloud, Zhang Xu

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

As cloud computing has become a trend in the computing world, understanding its security concerns becomes essential for improving service quality and expanding business scale. This dissertation studies the security issues in a public cloud from three aspects. First, we investigate a new threat called power attack in the cloud. Second, we perform a systematical measurement on the public cloud to understand how cloud vendors react to existing security threats. Finally, we propose a novel technique to perform data reduction on audit data to improve system capacity, and hence helping to enhance security in cloud. In the power attack, we …

Aerospace, Physics, and Space Science Faculty Publications

A search for supersymmetry involving events with at least one photon, one electron or muon, and large missing transverse momentum has been performed by the CMS experiment. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1 of pp collisions at s=8 TeV, produced at the CERN LHC. No excess of events is observed beyond expectations from standard model processes. The result of the search is interpreted in the context of a general model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking, where the charged and neutral winos are the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particles. Within this model, winos with a mass up to 360 …

Aerospace, Physics, and Space Science Faculty Publications

The first search for a heavy charged vector boson in the final state with a tau lepton and a neutrino is reported, using 19.7 fb-1 of LHC data at s=8 TeV. A signal would appear as an excess of events with high transverse mass, where the standard model background is low. No excess is observed. Limits are set on a model in which the W' decays preferentially to fermions of the third generation. These results substantially extend previous constraints on this model. Masses below 2.0 to 2.7 TeV are excluded, depending on the model parameters. In addition, the existence of …

The angular distributions and the differential branching fraction of the decay B0→K*(892)0μ+μ- are studied using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.5 fb-1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in pp collisions at s=8 TeV. From 1430 signal decays, the forward-backward asymmetry of the muons, the K*(892)0 longitudinal polarization fraction, and the differential branching fraction are determined as a function of the dimuon invariant mass squared. The measurements are among the most precise to date and are in good agreement with standard model predictions.

A Hierarchical Statistical Engineering Modeling Methodology, Teddy Steven Cotter Jan 2016

A Hierarchical Statistical Engineering Modeling Methodology, Teddy Steven Cotter

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications

In the ASEM-IAC 2015, Cotter (2015) proposed a systemic joint deterministic-stochastic dynamic causal Bayesian statistical engineering model that addressed the knowledge gap needed to integrate deterministic mathematical engineering models within a stochastic framework. However, Cotter did not specify the modeling methodology through which statistical engineering models could be developed, diagnosed, and applied to predict systemic mission performance. This paper updates research into the development a hierarchical statistical engineering modeling methodology and sets forth the initial theoretical foundation for the methodology.

Spest – A Tool For Specification-Based Testing, Corrigan Redford Johnson Jan 2016

Spest – A Tool For Specification-Based Testing, Corrigan Redford Johnson

Master's Theses

This thesis presents a tool for SPEcification based teSTing (SPEST). SPEST is designed to use well known practices for automated black-box testing to reduce the burden of testing on developers. The tool uses a simple formal specification language to generate highly-readable unit tests that embody best practices for thorough software testing. Because the specification language used to generate the assertions about the code can be compiled, it can also be used to ensure that documentation describing the code is maintained during development and refactoring.

The utility and effectiveness of SPEST were validated through several exper- iments conducted with students in …

Synthetic Protocols On 6$H$-Benzo[$C$]Chromen-6-Ones: A Review, Ofentse Mazimba Jan 2016

Synthetic Protocols On 6$H$-Benzo[$C$]Chromen-6-Ones: A Review, Ofentse Mazimba

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

6$H$-Benzo[$c$]chromen-6-ones serve as core structures of secondary metabolites and are of considerable pharmacological importance. Natural sources produce limited quantities, hence the need for synthetic procedures for 6$H$-benzo[$c$]chromen-6-ones, which are herein reviewed. The literature describes protocols such as the Suzuki coupling reactions for the synthesis of biaryl, which then undergoes lactonization, reactions of 3-formylcoumarin (chromenones) with 1,3-bis(silylenol ethers), radical mediated cyclization of arylbenzoates, metal or base catalyzed cyclization of phenyl-2-halobenzoates and 2-halobenzyloxyphenols, and benzoic acid coupling with benzoquinone using electrophilic metal-based catalyst. The efficient and simple procedures are those involving the reactions of Michael acceptor (chromenones and chalcones) with 1,3- and …

Synthesis And Photochromism Of New Asymmetrical Diarylethenes With A Variable Heteroaryl Ring And A Quinoline Unit, Hongyan Xu, Renjie Wang, Congbin Fan, Gang Liu, Shouzhi Pu

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Three new asymmetrical photochromic diarylethenes containing a variable heteroaryl ring and a quinoline unit were synthesized and their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Their properties, including photochromism, acidichromism, and fluorescence, were investigated systematically. For these diarylethenes, the one with an indole moiety had the largest absorption maximum, cyclization quantum yield, photoconversion ratio, emission peak, and fluorescent modulation efficiency. In addition, these diarylethenes exhibited an evident dual switching behavior induced by the stimulation of acid/base and UV/Vis. Addition of trifluoroacetic acid to solution of the diarylethenes produced protonated derivatives with notable changes in their absorption spectra. These results …

Density Functional Study Of The Structure And Water Adsorption Activity Of An Al$_{30}$O$_{30}$ Star-Shaped Alumina Nanocage, Mehdi Zamani

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Molecular and electronic structures of a novel Al$_{30}$O$_{30}$ star-shaped alumina nanocage (SANC) were studied using the recently developed CAM-B3LYP density functional method. Comparison of the stretching vibrational modes of this compound with the corresponding modes related to an Al$_{20}$O$_{30}$ perfect cage and Al$_{50}$O$_{75}$ tubular alumina nanomaterials showed a shift to lower frequencies, while the bending modes moved to higher frequencies. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of the SANC had 65% nonbonding character, whereas the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) was 72% antibonding. The HOMO and LUMO of the SANC arose mostly from Al 3s and 2p atomic orbitals. The …
