This paper presents a scenario-based approach for the evaluation of the quality attribute of performance, measured in terms of execution time (response time). The approach is implemented by a framework that uses dynamic analysis and repository mining techniques to provide an automated way for revealing potential sources of performance degradation of scenarios between releases of a software system. We introduce the concept of Least Similar Nearest Neighbours (LeSiNN) and use LeSiNN to detect anomalies directly. Although there is an existing method which is a special case of LeSiNN, this paper is the first to clearly articulate the underlying concept, as far as we know. LeSiNN is the first ensemble method which works well with models trained using samples of one instance. LeSiNN has linear time complexity with respect to data size and the number of dimensions, and it is one of the few anomaly detectors which can apply directly to both numeric and categorical data sets. A two-neutron unbound excited state of 24O was populated through a (d,d ) reaction at 83.4 MeV/nucleon. A state at E = 715 ± 110 (stat) ± 45 (sys) keV with a width of < 2 MeV was observed above the two-neutron separation energy placing it at 7.65 ± 0.2 MeV with respect to the ground state. Three-body correlations for the decay of 24O → 22O + 2n show clear evidence of a sequential decay through an intermediate state in 23O. Neither a di-neutron nor phase-space model for the three-body breakup were able to describe these correlations.

In this thesis we study the behavior of direct sum decomposition's in the category of modules. We present some of the most important "classical" results involving direct sum decomposition's for modules (e.g. Krull-Schmidt theorem, decomposition theorems for finitely generated modules over PID etc.). In the last part of the thesis we obtain new results, namely isomorphic refinement theorems for direct sum decomposition's of regular modules. We also obtain a link between regular modules and the exchange property.

Today's smartphone application (hereinafter 'app') markets miss a key piece of information, power consumption of apps. This causes a severe problem for continuous sensing apps as they consume significant power without users' awareness. Users have no choice but to repeatedly install one app after another and experience their power use. To break such an exhaustive cycle, we propose PowerForecaster, a system that provides users with power use of sensing apps at pre-installation time. Shopping experience is important for both citizens and tourists. We present IntelligShop, a novel location-based augmented reality application that supports intelligent shopping experience in malls. If large extra dimensions exist, the Planck scale may be as low as a TeV and microscopic black holes may be produced in high-energy particle collisions at this energy scale. We simulate microscopic black hole formation at the Large Hadron Collider and compare the simulation results with recent experimental data by the Compact Muon Solenoid collaboration. The absence of observed black hole events in the experimental data allows us to set lower bounds on the Planck scale and various parameters related to microscopic black hole formation for a number (3 − 6) of extra dimensions. The computational efficiency and energy-to-solution of several applications using the GAMESS quantum chemistry suite of codes is evaluated for 32-bit and 64-bit ARM-based computers, and compared to an x86 machine. The x86 system completes all benchmark computations more quickly than either ARM system and is the best choice to minimize time to solution. The ARM64 and ARM32 computational performances are similar to each other for Hartree-Fock and density functional theory energy calculations. However, for memory-intensive second-order perturbation theory energy and gradient computations the lower ARM32 read/write memory bandwidth results in computation times as much as 86% longer than on the …

Pointcut fragility is a well-documented problem in Aspect-Oriented Programming; changes to the base code can lead to join points incorrectly falling in or out of the scope of pointcuts. Deciding which pointcuts have broken due to base-code changes is daunting, especially in large and complex systems. We present an automated approach that recommends pointcuts that are likely to require modification due to a certain base-code change and ones that do not. Our hypothesis is that join points selected by a pointcut exhibit common structural characteristics. Triptycenes spontaneously assemble into two-dimensional networks in which long-range charge transport is facilitated by the extensive electronic coupling through the triptycene framework (intramolecularly) and by cofacial π-stacking (intermolecularly). While designing and synthesizing next-generation triptycenes containing polyaromatic chromophores, the electronic coupling amongst the chromophores was observed to be highly dependent on the nature and position of the substituents. Herein, we demonstrate using hexaalkoxytriptycenes that the electronic coupling amongst the chromophores is switched on and off by a simple repositioning of the substituents, which alters the nodal arrangement of the HOMOs of the individual chromophores. Nowadays, many companies contract their testing functionalities out to third-party IT outsourcing companies. This process referred to as test outsourcing is common in the industry, yet it is rarely studied in the research community. In this paper, to bridge the gap, we performed an empirical study on test outsourcing with 10 interviewees and 140 survey respondents. We investigated various research questions such as the types, the process, and the challenges of test outsourcing, and the differences between test outsourcing and in-house testing. We found customer satisfaction, tight project schedule, and domain unfamiliarity are the top-3 challenges faced by the testers. …

In this paper, we propose a cheap and effective solution to detect if specific seats at a shared public table are occupied -- either by humans or by objects (i.e., the seats are being "hogged"). The hogging of seats, in particular, is a big problem for our campus library and required a large amount of manpower to correct (to find and clear hogged seats). We propose using two different cheap sensors, a capacitance sensor and an infrared (IR) sensor, to solve this problem. Hot methane is found in many "cool" sub-stellar astronomical sources including brown dwarfs and exoplanets, as well as in combustion environments on Earth. We report on the first high-resolution laboratory absorption spectra of hot methane at temperatures up to 1200 K. Our observations are compared to the latest theoretical spectral predictions and recent brown dwarf spectra. The expectation that millions of weak absorption lines combine to form a continuum, not seen at room temperature, is confirmed. Our high-resolution transmittance spectra account for both the emission and absorption of methane at elevated temperatures. From these spectra, we obtain an empirical line …

Highlights •We use the well characterized matrix regularization technique described by Ledoit and Wolf to calculate high dimensional partial correlations in fMRI data. •Using this approach we demonstrate that partial correlations reveal RSN structure suggesting that RSNs are defined by widely and uniquely shared variance. •Partial correlation functional connectivity is sensitive to changes in brain state indicating that they contain functional information. Functional connectivity refers to shared signals among brain regions and is typically assessed in a task free state. Background subtraction, a procedure required in many video analysis applications such as object tracking , is dependent on the model background image. One efficient algorithm for background image generation is the Teknomo-Fernandez (TF) Algorithm, which uses modal values and a tournament-like strategy to produce a good background image very quickly. We demonstrate an effective approach of modifying the long-range spatial correlation for light propagating inside random photonic waveguides by varying the shape of the waveguide. The functional form of spatial correlation is no longer universal in the regime of diffusive transport and becomes shape dependent due to the nonlocal nature of wave propagation. The spatial dependence of the correlation may become asymmetric for light incident from opposite ends of the waveguide. This work opens the door to control nonlocal effects in mesoscopic transport of waves by tailoring the geometry of random systems. .

Aryl iodides have become widely recognized as versatile synthetic intermediates, owing to aromatic iodine’s excellent ability to participate in oxidative addition reactions. Iodoarenes readily undergo a variety of synthetic transformations including metal catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, diaryliodonium chemistry, formation of organometallics through reduction or metal-halogen exchange, as well as classical SN2 type chemistry. Because a wide array of transformations are available for aryl iodides, organic molecules containing this moiety often serve as vital precursors to highly desirable pharmaceuticals.

We analyze more than 17 years of OMNI data to statistically quantify the impact of IMF Bz fluctuations on AL by using higher-order moments in the AL-distribution as a proxy. For strongly southward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), the AL distribution function is characterized by a decrease of the skewness, a shift of its peak from −30 nT to −200 nT, and a broadening of the distribution core. During northward IMF, the distribution of AL is characterized by a significant reduction of the standard deviation and weight in the tail.
