Low dimensional carbon nanostructures, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene, have attracted significant interest due to promising applications ranging from high-speed electronics to sensing. However, insight into growth mechanisms of low-dimensional carbon nanomaterials remains a challenge. Metal-free nanocarbon/SiC structures offer an excellent platform to gain a fundamental understanding of carbon nano-materials. In this talk, metal-free nanocarbon/SiC structures are used as a platform to gain a fundamental understanding of the growth mechanisms of CNTs and graphene. Higher Order Dynamic Equations On Measure Chains: Wronskians, Disconjugacy, And Interpolating Families Of Functions, Martin Bohner, Paul Eloe

This paper introduces generalized zeros and hence disconjugacy of nth order linear dynamic equations, which cover simultaneously as special cases (among others) both differential equations and difference equations. We also define Markov, Fekete, and Descartes interpolating systems of functions. The main result of this paper states that disconjugacy is equivalent to the existence of any of the above interpolating systems of solutions and that it is also equivalent to a certain factorization representation of the operator. We consider the damped externally excited KdV and BBM equations and use an asymptotic perturbation method to analyze the stability of solutions. We consider the primary resonance by defining the detuning parameter. External-excitation and frequency-response curves are shown to exhibit jump and hysteresis phenomena (dis-continuous transitions between two stable solutions) for both KdV and BBM equations.

An impulsive boundary value problem with nonlinear boundary conditions for a second order ordinary differential equation is studied. In particular, sufficient conditions are provided so that a compression- expansion cone theoretic fixed point theorem can be applied to imply the existence of positive solutions. The nonlinear forcing term is assumed to satisfy usual sublinear or superlinear growth as t → ∞ or t → 0 +. The nonlinear impulse terms and the nonlinear boundary terms are assumed to satisfy the analogous asymptotic behavior.

Chalcopyrite CuInS2 (CIS) hierarchical structures composed of nanoflakes with a thickness of about 5 nm were synthesized by a facial solvothermal method. The thermodynamically metastable wurtzite phase CIS would be obtained by using InCl3 instead of In(NO3)3 as In precursor. The effects of the In precursor and the volume of concentrated HCl aqueous solution on the phases and morphologies of CIS nanocrystals have been systematically investigated. Experimental results indicated that the obtained phases of CIS nanocrystals were predominantly determined by precursor-induced intermediate products. We investigate the photoluminescence (PL) properties of a hybrid type-I InAs/GaAs and type-II GaSb/GaAs quantum dot (QD) structure grown in a GaAs matrix by molecular beam epitaxy. This hybrid QD structure exhibits more intense PL with a broader spectral range, compared with control samples that contain only InAs or GaSb QDs. This enhanced PL performance is attributed to additional electron and hole injection from the type-I InAs QDs into the adjacent type-II GaSb QDs. We confirm this mechanism using time-resolved and power-dependent PL.These hybrid QD structures show potential for high efficiency QD solar cell applications.

The Landau-Ginzburg mirror symmetry conjecture proposes two algebraic structures which are isomorphic, or in some sense “mirror” each other. The resistance of tumor cells to chemotherapy is a critical problem in the clinic and is a common cause of mortality in cancer. Emerging data suggests that resistance to chemotherapy is caused by a tumor-expressed protein called 14-3-3ζ, yet the mechanism to explain 14-3-3ζ-mediated chemoresistance is not completely understood (1). Rapid growing tumors often outgrow their blood supply resulting in regions of hypoxia (low glucose and oxygen). These cells must adapt or die and those that do adapt often become metastatic and chemoresistant. Introduction: I recently discovered a new genus of reptile from the Triassic period (roughly 225 million years ago). Reptiles like it are called “drepanosaurs,” and share many unique features such as large claws, unusual, humped shoulder blades, opposable fingers, and prehensile tails. Many of these structures appear to be well-suited for climbing, and the scientific community generally considers drepanosaurs to be arboreal. My new specimen, however, is more complete than previous discoveries have been, and it includes skeletal features that could indicate a digging lifestyle. Introduction 2ft Prosthetics has been making below-the-knee prostheses for developing countries since 2010. While these feet have been helpful, improvements should be made to the design. One of the common complaints about the PVC foot was the amount of noise created during gait. The purpose of this project was to research different sound reduction designs for the PVC prosthesis. Introduction: Traditional micro fabrication processes are confined to a small subset of possible materials due to limitations on etching. They are also confined to low aspect ratio fabrication due to limits in both etching process and stability of thicker film deposition processes. Carbon Nanotube Templated Microfabrication (CNT-M) technology has introduced a dramatically different approach to micro fabrication that fabricates without significant etching processes and achieves thick features with the equivalent of thin depositions. This qualitative study provided insight into the phenomenon of newcomers in social networking, in particular, to understand what role specific Facebook features play in motivating content sharing and contribution among newcomers. Research indicated that the first several months or years of social networking site (SNS) membership are the most crucial in terms of indicating long-term participation and commitment to the SNS. Photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) uses photoelectrons excited from material surfaces by incident photons to probe the interaction of light with surfaces with nanometer-scale resolution. The point resolution of PEEM images is strongly limited by spherical and chromatic aberration. Image aberrations primarily originate from the acceleration of photoelectrons and imaging with the objective lens and vary strongly in magnitude with specimen emission characteristics. Spherical and chromatic aberration can be corrected with an electrostatic mirror, and here I develop a triode mirror with hyperbolic geometry that has two adjacent, field-adjustable regions. MP2 describes hydrogen-bonded systems well, yet a higher-order electron correlation correction in the form of a CCSD(T) calculation is usually necessary to achieve benchmark quality energies. We evaluated the importance and reliability of small basis set CCSD(T) corrections to MP2(δCCSD(T)) both on the binding (ΔE) and relative (ΔΔE) MP2 energies for a large number of systems including four water dimer stationary points and 57 other clusters up to undecamers, (H2O)11. By comparing the MP2 energies with CCSD(T) and the explicitly correlated MP2-F12 energies with variants of CCSD(T)-F12 using different basis sets, we were able to establish that the correction to …

Rajpoot by applying "HCR's Theory of Polygon" to calculate solid angle subtended by each regular hexagonal & trapezoidal face & their normal distances from the center of uniform tetradecahedron, inscribed radius, circumscribed radius, mean radius, surface area & volume. Heterocyclic Amines (HCAs) are a group of mutagenic and carcinogenic chemicals found in muscle meat after grilling, frying, or broiling. Research studies show that very low amounts of HCAs are created from creatinine reacting with another amino acid at temperatures greater than 200 °C. Other studies show that plant-based arginine can substitute for creatine forming a new class of mutagenic HCAs, but also in low yields. We sought to develop a direct, higher yielding method of producing these arginine-HCAs based on a procedure previously used to synthesize creatine-HCAs. Obtaining the approximate number of hydroxyl functional groups (OH#) in a dendrimer is crucial in determining what role it can play in bonding and reactivity to other molecules. NIR-spectroscopy has the potential to allow for the recovery of the sample or at least to minimize the amount needed for analysis while providing an accurate determination of the OH# of a dendrimer.
