Discrete wavelet multitone (DWMT) modulation is a wavelet transform based technique implemented using perfect reconstruction filter banks. It has been recently proposed for various wireline channels such as digital subscriber loops (DSLs) as a solution to the problems posed by a discrete multitone (DMT) transceiver including interblock interference (IBI) and lower spectral efficiency due to the employment of a cyclic prefix (CP) in the guard interval (GI) for DMT symbols. The E-core transverse flux machine (ETFM) has major advantages with its different and unique structure in conventional electrical machines. It is a combination of transverse flux and reluctance principle. In this work, support vector regression machines (SVRMs) are used to obtain the magnetic characteristic parameters of the ETFM for the first time and it is compared with its artificial neural network model. The data for the training and testing of the SVRMs are obtained from experimental measurements. The main contribution of this work is to apply two-stage filtering using linear matching and collaborative filtering to make recommendations. Denoising of surface electromyography (sEMG) signals plays a vital role in sEMG-based mechatronics applications and diagnosis of muscular diseases. In this study, 3 different denoising methods of sEMG signals, empirical mode decomposition, discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and median filter, are examined. These methods are applied to 5 different levels of noise-added synthetic sEMG signals. For the DWT-based denoising technique, 40 different wavelet functions, 4 different threshold-selection-rules, and 2 threshold-methods are tested iteratively. This paper proposes a multilevel hybrid cascade-stack (HCS) converter. Recently, different new topologies for cascade-type converters have been suggested with the goal of reducing switch number, loss, switch PIV, etc. Meanwhile, output voltage steps increase, and the number of switches is predominately reduced in the suggested inverter in comparison to conventional cascade converters. In this work, a fourth-order accurate 2-D finite difference frequency domain method is proposed for the analysis of general waveguide structures. Finite difference techniques have been extensively used to solve electromagnetic problems over the decades. These methods discretize the computational domain using the Yee cell, but the standard Yee scheme used in these methods is only second-order accurate. In order to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed scheme compared to the multiresolution frequency domain method and the traditional 2-D finite difference frequency domain scheme, the dispersion characteristics of various waveguide structures are analyzed.

In this study, we examine the performance of fixed gain amplify-and-forward repeaters for visible light communication (VLC) systems. We present the wireless optical channel model for VLC with the repeater and we evaluate the bit-error-rate (BER) performance for pulse-position modulation over the multipath channel with additive white Gaussian noise. The results reveal that when a repeater is placed, both the BER and the illuminance performance can be improved at any location in a typical office space. In this note, we propose a full-duplex decode-and-forward cooperative diversity scheme based on code division with orthogonal complementary codes. We consider a simple case in which a single user is assisted by a single relay to achieve cooperative diversity. When the cooperation is full-duplex, the operational delay of the relay makes the channel asynchronous and this may cause multiple-access interference (MAI) between the user and relay. The orthogonal complementary codes have perfect autocorrelation and cross-correlation properties that provide MAI-free operation in asynchronous channels. Regulation Of Methane Gas Output From An Anaerobic Reactor System Using Moving Horizon $H_{\Infty }$ Control, Fatma Yildiz Taşcikaraoğlu, Şeref Naci̇ Engi̇n

In this study, the moving horizon $\mathcal{H}_{\infty }$\textbf{ }control used for tracking a desired methane gas output from an anaerobic wastewater treatment reactor is compared with classical $\mathcal{H}_{\infty }$ control and a proportional-integral-derivative controller. The nonlinear system is first linearized around the set of equilibrium and operating points selected, and then the linear matrix inequalities required to comply with the constraints and guarantee the stability are constructed. Finally, the experimental results are obtained by implementing the control method in a MATLAB environment. It is concluded that moving horizon $\mathcal{H}_{\infty }$ control yields satisfactory results.

We provide a Hamiltonian formulation for the governing equations describing the two-dimensional nonlinear interaction between coupled surfacewaves, internalwaves, and an underlying current with piecewise constant vorticity, in a two-layered fluid overlying a flat bed. This Hamiltonian structure is a starting point for the derivation of simpler models, which can be obtained systematically by expanding the Hamiltonian in dimensionless parameters. These enable an in-depth study of the coupling between the surface and internal waves, and how both these wave systems interact with the background current.

We describe a new implementation of an adaptive multi-tissue tetrahedral mesh generator targeting anatomic modeling of Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) for surgical simulations. Our method, initially constructs an adaptive Body-Centered Cubic (BCC) mesh of high quality elements. Then, it deforms the mesh surfaces to their corresponding physical image boundaries, hence, improving the mesh fidelity and smoothness. Our deformation scheme, which builds upon the ITK toolkit, is based on the concept of energy minimization, and relies on a multi-material point-based registration. An emerging trend in social media is for users to create and publish "stories", or curated lists of web resources with the purpose of creating a particular narrative of interest to the user. While some stories on the web are automatically generated, such as Facebook’s "Year in Review", one of the most popular storytelling services is "Storify", which provides users with curation tools to select, arrange, and annotate stories with content from social media and the web at large. Optimistic fair exchange (OFE) is a protocol for solving the problem of exchanging items or services in a fair manner between two parties, a signer and a verifier, with the help of an arbitrator which is called in only when a dispute happens between the two parties. In almost all the previous work on OFE, after obtaining a partial signature from the signer, the verifier can present it to others and show that the signer has indeed committed itself to something corresponding to the partial signature even prior to the completion of the transaction.
