Preparation And Study Of Tin And Gallium Thin Films On Silicon Substrates, Maher Nadher Abdullah

Al-Qadisiyah Journal of Pure Science

In this research, the ideal procedures were obtained for growth epitaxial layers of tin and gallium solutions which are solid solutions, and the two solutions of the molten material were dissolved on a silicon substrate. The results were to obtain the lowest dislocation density of thin films. The relationship between the dislocation densities of thin films and the thickness of the thin film was an exponential relationship between its variable values. Thin films with a compound containing a smooth structure varied in order were obtained by smoothly changing the lattice parameters of the gradient gap solid solution, and an ideal …

Supra-Approximation Spaces Using Combined Edges Systems, Hussein R. Jaffer, Khalid Sh. Al’Dzhabri

Al-Qadisiyah Journal of Pure Science

The primary in this paper's notion, the i-space using incident edges system (resp. n-space using non-incidental edges system), is what this study is responsible for generating and investigating. Additionally, we used c-interior to define the c-lower approximations in generalized rough set theory (resp. i-interior and n-interior) Additionally, the c-upper approximations are defined using c-closure (as opposed to i-closure and n-closure), and some of its characteristics are studied.

Terrain Cost Learning From Human Preferences For Robot Path Planning Using A Visual User Interface, Kaivalya Velagapudi Jan 2023

Terrain Cost Learning From Human Preferences For Robot Path Planning Using A Visual User Interface, Kaivalya Velagapudi

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Robot navigation in terrains with limited exploration and limited knowledge has been a problem of interest in robotics due to the potential dangers that may arise during traversal. Due to the large number of path permutations within a complex and feature-rich real-world environment, and in the interest of saving time and ensuring safety, the robot should learn the optimal path without repeated exploration of the terrain. This can be accomplished by leveraging the path preferences of a human operator so that, with selective inputs, the agent can effectively learn a terrain-cost mapping in order to determine the optimal route, thereby …

Collective Relaxation Processes In Nonchiral Nematics, Neelam Yadav, Yuri Panarin, Wanhe Jiang, Georg H. Mehl, Jagdish Vij

Articles

Nematic–nematic transitions in a highly polar nematic compound are studied, in thick cells in which the molecules are aligned parallel to the substrates but perpendicular to the applied electric field, using dielectric spectroscopy in the frequency range 1 Hz to 10 MHz over a wide temperature range. The studied compound displays three nematic phases under cooling from the isotropic phase: ubiquitous nematic N; high polarizability NX; and ferroelectric nematic NF. Two collective processes were observed. The dielectric strength and relaxation frequency of one of the processes P2 showed a dependence on the thickness of the cell. The process P1 is …

Soil Organic Matter Carbon Chemistry Signatures, Hydrophobicity And Humification Index Following Land Use Change In Temperate Peat Soils, Samuel Obeng Apori, Julie Dunne, Michelle Giltrap, Furong Tian Jan 2023

Soil Organic Matter Carbon Chemistry Signatures, Hydrophobicity And Humification Index Following Land Use Change In Temperate Peat Soils, Samuel Obeng Apori, Julie Dunne, Michelle Giltrap, Furong Tian

Articles

Peatlands play a critical role in the global carbon cycle, storing large amounts of carbon because of a net imbalance between primary production and the microbial decomposition of the organic matter. Nevertheless, peatlands have historically been drained for energy sources (e.g. peat briquettes), forestry, or agriculture - practices that could affect the quality of the soil organic matter (SOM) composition, hydrophobicity and humification index. This study compared the effect of land use change on the quality and composition of peatland organic material in Co-Offaly, Ireland. Specifically, drained and grazing peat (grassland), drained and forest plantation peat (forest plantation), drained and …

Enhancing Control Room Operator Decision Making: An Application Of Dynamic Influence Diagrams In Formaldehyde Manufacturing, Joseph Mietkiewicz, Anders L. Madsen Jan 2023

Enhancing Control Room Operator Decision Making: An Application Of Dynamic Influence Diagrams In Formaldehyde Manufacturing, Joseph Mietkiewicz, Anders L. Madsen

Articles

Intoday’s rapidly evolving industrial landscape, control room operators must grapple with an ever-growing array of tasks and respon sibilities. One major challenge facing these operators is the potential for task overload, which can lead to decision fatigue and increased reliance on cognitive biases. To address this issue, we propose the use of dynamic influence diagrams (DID) as the core of our decision support system. By monitoring the process over time and identifying anomalies, DIDs can recommend the most effective course of action based on a probabilistic assessment of future outcomes. Instead of letting the operator choose or search for the …

On The Chronological Understanding Of The Homogeneous Dielectric Barrier Discharge, Xinpei Lu, Zhi Fang, Dong Dai, Tao Shao, Feng Liu, Cheng Zhang, Dawei Liu, Lanlan Nie, Chunqi Jiang

Bioelectrics Publications

Dielectric barrier discharges (DBD) are widely utilised non-equilibrium atmospheric pressure plasmas with a diverse range of applications, such as material processing, surface treatment, light sources, pollution control, and medicine. Over the course of several decades, extensive research has been dedicated to the generation of homogeneous DBD (H-DBD), focussing on understanding the transition from H-DBD to filamentary DBD and exploring strategies to create and sustain H-DBD. This paper first discusses the influence of various parameters on DBD, including gas flow, dielectric material, surface conductivity, and mesh electrode. Secondly, a chronological literature review is presented, highlighting the development of H-DBD and the …

The Post-Shock Nonequilibrium Relaxation In A Hypersonic Plasma Flow Involving Reflection Off A Thermal Discontinuity, Anna Markhotok Jan 2023

The Post-Shock Nonequilibrium Relaxation In A Hypersonic Plasma Flow Involving Reflection Off A Thermal Discontinuity, Anna Markhotok

Physics Faculty Publications

The evolution in the post shock nonequilibrium relaxation in a hypersonic plasma flow was investigated during a shock’s reflection off a thermal discontinuity. Within a transitional period, the relaxation zone parameters past both, the reflected and transmitted waves, evolve differently compared to that in the incident wave. In a numerical example for the non-dissociating N2 gas heated to 5000 K/10,000 K across the interface and M = 3.5, the relaxation time for the transmitted wave is up to 50% shorter and the relaxation depth for both waves is significantly reduced, thus resulting in a weakened wave structure. The …

Basics Of Factorization In A Scalar Yukawa Field Theory, F. Aslan, L. Gamberg, J.O. Gonzalez-Hernandez, T. Rainaldi, T. C. Rogers Jan 2023

Basics Of Factorization In A Scalar Yukawa Field Theory, F. Aslan, L. Gamberg, J.O. Gonzalez-Hernandez, T. Rainaldi, T. C. Rogers

Physics Faculty Publications

The factorization theorems of QCD apply equally well to most simple quantum field theories that require renormalization but where direct calculations are much more straightforward. Working with these simpler theories is convenient for stress testing the limits of the factorization program and for examining general properties of the parton density functions or other correlation functions that might be necessary for a factorized description of a process. With this view in mind, we review the steps of factorization in a real scalar Yukawa field theory for both deep inelastic scattering and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering cross sections. In the case of …

We report the measurement of 𝒙B scaling in (e,e′p) cross-section ratios off nuclei relative to deuterium at large missing momentum of 350 ≤ Pmiss ≤ 600 MeV/c. The observed scaling extends over a kinematic range of 0.7 ≤ 𝒙B ≤ 1.8, which is significantly wider than 1.4 ≤ 𝒙B ≤ 1.8 previously observed for inclusive (e,e′) cross-section ratios. The 𝒙B-integrated cross-section ratios become constant (i.e., scale) beginning at pmiss ≈ kF, the nuclear Fermi momentum. Comparing with theoretical calculations we find good agreement with generalized contact formalism calculations for high missing …

Nuclear Magnetic Quadrupole Moment Of ¹⁷⁵Lu And Parity-Violating Polarization Degree Of Levels In ¹⁷⁵Luoh⁺, Igor Kurchavov, Daniel Maison, Leonid Skripnikov, Matt Grau, Alexander Petrov

Physics Faculty Publications

A calculation is performed of the parity-violating polarizations in the external electric field, which are associated with the electron electric dipole moment (eEDM) and magnetic quadrupole moment (MQM) of the 175Lu nucleus, as well as the determination of the rovibrational structure for the 175LuOH+ cation. Beyond the bending of the molecule, the slight effect of the stretching of the distance between Lu and OH is taken into account. This study is required for the preparation of the experiment and for the extraction of the eEDM and MQM values of 175Lu from future measurements.

Liouvillian Dynamics Of The Open Schwinger Model: String Breaking And Kinetic Dissipation In A Thermal Medium, Kyle Lee, James Mulligan, Felix Ringer, Xiaojun Yao

Physics Faculty Publications

Understanding the dynamics of bound state formation is one of the fundamental questions in confining quantum field theories such as Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). One hadronization mechanism that has garnered significant attention is the breaking of a string initially connecting a fermion and an antifermion. Deepening our understanding of real-time string-breaking dynamics with simpler, lower dimensional models like the Schwinger model can improve our understanding of the hadronization process in QCD and other confining systems found in condensed matter and statistical systems. In this paper, we consider the string-breaking dynamics within the Schwinger model and investigate its modification inside a thermal …

Machine-Assisted Discovery Of Integrable Symplectic Mappings, T. Zolkin, Y. Kharkov, S. Nagaitsev Jan 2023

Machine-Assisted Discovery Of Integrable Symplectic Mappings, T. Zolkin, Y. Kharkov, S. Nagaitsev

Physics Faculty Publications

We present a new automated method for finding integrable symplectic maps of the plane. These dynamical systems possess a hidden symmetry associated with an existence of conserved quantities, i.e., integrals of motion. The core idea of the algorithm is based on the knowledge that the evolution of an integrable system in the phase space is restricted to a lower-dimensional submanifold. Limiting ourselves to polygon invariants of motion, we analyze the shape of individual trajectories thus successfully distinguishing integrable motion from chaotic cases. For example, our method rediscovers some of the famous McMillan-Suris integrable mappings and ultradiscrete Painlevé equations. In total, …

Hydrogeochemical Pattern And Environmental Isotope Hydrology Of Coastal Bademli Geothermal Area (Bga) In Western Turkey (Dikili-İzmir): A New Geothermal Prospect, Adi̇le Meli̇s Somay Altaş, Ünsal Gemi̇ci̇

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Bademli geothermal area (BGA) is located on the coastline of Dikili-İzmir province and consists of Bademli spring and Hayıtlı areas with 36.8-51°C discharge temperatures, respectively. The waters of Hayıtlı borehole have remarkable seawater mixing ratios like Bademli spring and have Na-Cl water type. Dikili group pyroclastic volcanic units constitute the reservoir rock in the entire geothermal area. The heat source is relatively elevated geothermal gradient caused by extensional tectonics forming E-W trending grabens. Bademli thermal water is plotted in the "immature waters" area in the Na-K-Mg triangular diagram with a calculated seawater contribution of 18%. Therefore, some cation geothermometers are …

Evidence For Surface Rupture Of The 1939 Erzincan Earthquake Based On Field Data And Paleoseismology On The Ezinepazarı Fault (North Anatolian Fault Zone, Central Anatolia), Fi̇kret Koçbulut

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Ezinepazarı Fault (EPF) is an active segment that restricts the Niksar Basin in the central part of the North Anatolian Fault Zone and has been the source of the devastating Mw 8.0 earthquake in the last 100 years. Traces of the surface rupture of the EPF, which occurred in AD 1939, can still be observed in the field today as a right-lateral strike-slip character. While paleoseismological studies were mostly focused on the western part of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) in previous studies, the studies on the central and eastern parts of the NAFZ are rarely addressed. In …

Relationship Of Petrographic And Mineralogical Characteristics With Mechanical Strength Properties Of Granitic Rocks: A Case Study From The Biga Peninsula, Nw Turkey, Güven Eroğlu, Ayten Çalik

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

This study was carried out on granitic rocks from the Biga Peninsula in order to investigate petrographic, and mineralogical properties in comparison with mechanical strength properties. This study was conducted in four different locations where granitic rocks outcrop from north to south in the Biga Peninsula: Lapseki (Şevketiye granite), Ezine (Kestanbol granite), Bayramiç (Yassıbağ granite), and Edremit (Eybek granite). Field observations and detailed petrographic studies of representative samples indicate that they are quartz monzodiorite (Şevketiye and Yassıbağ), quartz monzonite (Kestanbol), and granodiorite (Eybek) in composition. All the rocks have similar mineral composition, comprising mainly feldspar (plagioclase-alkali feldspar), quartz, mafic minerals …

Geology Of The Eastern Anatolian Plateau (Turkey): A Synthesis, Ali̇ Yilmaz, Gülteki̇n Topuz, Tuna Eken, Osman Candan, Hüseyi̇n Yilmaz

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Eastern Anatolian Plateau (EAP), approximately 2000 m above sea level, is located between the Eastern Pontides to the north, the Arabian Platform to the south, and the Iranian Plateau to the east. It is characterized by approximately 6 km-thick Maastrichtian to Quaternary volcano-sedimentary cover which unconformably overlies continental and oceanic basement units. Overall, the outcrops of the pre-Maastrichtian basement are rare and include both continental and oceanic units. This led to drastically different interpretations of the nature of the pre-Maastrichtian basement as (i) the oceanic accretionary complex or (ii) continental crust and overlying ophiolitic mélange. This synthesis deals with …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

This review is concerned with some key features observed within grouped samples of ancient ceramics that provide important evidence concerning the selection of appropriate raw materials and the evolution of the firing technologies employed in their production. It also demonstrates the importance of distinguishing and accounting for the mineralogical and microstructural attributes and identifying the processes responsible for the microstructural evolution of these ancient ceramics. The mineralogy largely reflects both the nature of the raw materials used and the maximum temperatures achieved during firing, deduced from the presence of specific high temperature minerals (HTMs). The microstructural evolution processes, deduced by …

Microstructural Characterizations And Strength Development Of Self-Compacting Concrete Using Rice Husk Ash, Floyd Rey P. Plando, Joel T. Maquiling

Physics Faculty Publications

The conversion of waste and by-products into green building materials is gaining attention for a sustainable economy. Particularly, rice husk ash (RHA) is used as a precursor in self-compacting concrete due to its high pozzolanic activity. It also minimizes the use of conventional OPC as a primary binder during construction by exploiting its chemical features and characteristics as an alternative binding agent. Developing and mass-producing RHA as a cementitious material would lessen the carbon footprint that harms the environment. This study presents the compressive strength and microstructural characterizations of rice husk ash-based self-compacting concrete (RHA-SCC). The scanning electron microscope was …

Smartphone-Based Approach To Demonstrating Relativistic Aberration Of Light Using Electronic Circuit Analogues For Undergraduates In The Philippines, Samuel Martirez, June Capin, Shayne Venancio, Perine Bianzon, John Gabriel Rivera, Benjamin Dingel, Clint Dominic Bennett

Physics Faculty Publications

Previously, we demonstrated an electronic circuit analogue of one of Special Relativity's (SR) phenomena called the Relativistic Aberration of Light (RAL) (European Journal of Physics, 42, 015605, 2021), which describes the change in the angle an observer sees a light source relative to their direction of motion at relativistic speeds. It used typical bulky laboratory equipment such as (i) function generators, (ii) oscilloscopes, and (iii) power supplies together with our all-pass filter (APF)-based electronic circuit analogue to perform experiments. In this paper, we present a novel smartphone-based experimental set-up performing the same experiment, but we replace the bulky and expensive …
