Coal Geology & Exploration

[Objective] Hydraulic fracturing of vertical wells was adopted during the early production of moderately deep coalbed methane (CBM) of the northern Zhengzhuang block in the Qinshui Basin, generally yielding low productivity and inefficiency. In contrast, single-casing fracturing of horizontal wells has increased the single-well production to 10‒50 times that of vertical wells, establishing horizontal wells as the dominant development well type. However, the horizontal wells differ greatly in CBM production. This study aims to determine the factors influencing the productivity of horizontal wells using staged fracturing for moderately deep CBM in the northern Zhengzhuang block and improve the production performance. …

Geological Structures Fine Monitoring Using Seismic-While-Tunneling Technique In Wangpo Mine, Zhao Huibo, Qin Si, Chen Chao, Guan Qi, Zhao Xingwei, Che Jianhang

Coal Geology & Exploration

Traditional tunnel seismic advance detection technology is limited by the use of explosives, the need for mining stoppages, prediction speed, detection range, and capabilities, making it challenging to meet the high-precision geological structure detection requirements of intelligent tunneling faces. In response, the seismic-while-tunneling technique utilizes the vibration of the roadheader cutting the coal wall as the seismic source. This method employs real-time data upload, automatic processing, and dynamic imaging. By leveraging information technology and software support, and utilizing real-time continuous super-saturation stacking supported by massive data, the imaging precision of geological anomalies ahead of the mining face is significantly enhanced. …

Analysis Of Three-Dimensional Nonlinear Fluid-Solid Coupling Vibration Characteristics Of Coalbed Methane Abandoned Well Plugging String, Xu Zhixin, Wan Jifang, Hong Yi, Liu Hangming, Yi Xianzhong, Diao Binbin, Wang Yanbin

Coal Geology & Exploration

[Objective] The plugging quality of cement plug in abandoned coalbed methane wells is critical to preventing pollutant leakage. Current standards for handling these wells involve simple mud pump injection, which often results in cement plugs with issues like particle agglomeration, bubbles, and micropores. These defects reduce the strength of the cement plug and compromise its sealing performance. [Methods] To address this, vibration technology is applied to the plugging operation, using a specialized tool to induce vibrations in the pipe string. This process enhances the fluidity of the cement slurry via the transmission of vibration energy, thereby improving the plugging quality …

Preperiodic Points Of Polynomial Dynamical Systems Over Finite Fields, Aaron Andersen, Derek Garton Jun 2024

Preperiodic Points Of Polynomial Dynamical Systems Over Finite Fields, Aaron Andersen, Derek Garton

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations

For a prime p, positive integers r,n, and a polynomial f with coefficients in Fpr, let Wp,r,n(f) = fn(Fpr) ∖ fn+1(Fpr). As n varies, the Wp,r,n(f) partition the set of strictly preperiodic points of the dynamical system induced by the action of f on Fpr. In this paper we compute statistics of strictly preperiodic points of dynamical systems induced by unicritical polynomials over finite fields by obtaining effective upper bounds for the proportion of Fpr lying in a given Wp,r,n(f). Moreover, when we generalize our definition of Wp,r,n(f), we obtain both upper and lower bounds for the resulting averages.

We present an estimate of the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) detector polarization angle systematic uncertainty from optics perturbation analysis using polarization-sensitive ray tracing in CODE V optical design software. Uncertainties in polarization angle calibration in CMB measurements can limit constraints on cosmic birefringence and other cosmological parameters sensitive to polarization leakage. Our framework estimates the angle calibration systematic uncertainties from possible displacements in lens positions and orientations, and anti-reflection coating (ARC) thicknesses and refractive indices. With millimeter displacements in lens positions and percent-level perturbations in ARC thicknesses and indices from design, we find the total systematic uncertainty for three ACT …

Mechanistic Rationale For Ketene Formation During Dabbing And Vaping, Kaelas R. Munger, Killian M. Anreise, Robert P. Jensen, David H. Peyton, Robert M. Strongin

Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations

Ketene is one of the most toxic vaping emissions identified to date. However, its high reactivity renders it relatively challenging to identify. In addition, certain theoretical studies have shown that realistic vaping temperature settings may betoo low to produce ketene. Each of these issues is addressed herein. First, an isotopically labeled acetate precursor is used for the identification of ketene with enhanced rigor in vaped aerosols. Second, discrepancies between theoretical and experimental findings are explained by accounting for the effects of aerobic (experimental) versus anaerobic (simulated and theoretical) pyrolysis conditions. This finding is also relevant to explaining the relatively low-temperature …

A series of quaternary selenides, NaxMGaSe4 (M = Mn, Fe, and mixed Zn/Fe), have been synthesized for the first time employing a high-temperature solid-state synthesis route through stochiometric or polychalcogenide flux reactions. Along with the selenides, a previously reported sulfide analogue, NaxFeGaS4, is also revisited with new findings. These compounds form an interpenetrated structure made up of a supertetrahedral unit. The electrochemical evaluations exhibit a reversible (de)intercalation of ∼0.6 and ∼0.45 Na-ions, respectively, from Na2.87FeGaS4 (1a) and Na2.5FeGaSe4 (2) involving Fe2+/Fe3+ redox when cycled between 1.5 and 2.5 …

This second edition is composed of a set of sixteen laboratory investigations which allow the student to explore rich and diverse ideas and concepts in mathematics. The approach is hands-on and experimental, an approach that is very much in the spirit of modern pedagogy. The course is typically offered in one semester, at the sophomore (second year) level of college. It requires prior exposure to calculus and provides a transition to the study of higher, abstract mathematics. Most of the laboratories require the use of a computer for experimentation, but the text is written independent of any particular software.

This review focuses on DDSs that leverage the unique capabilities of phase change materials (PCMs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to achieve controlled drug release in response to pH and temperature changes. Specifically, this review highlights the use of a combination of lauric and stearic acids as PCMs that melt slightly above body temperature, providing a thermally responsive mechanism for drug release. Additionally, this review delves into the properties of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), a stable MOF under physiological conditions that decomposes in …

Bounds For The Regularity Radius Of Delone Sets, Nikolay Dolbilin, Alexey Garber, Egon Schulte, Marjorie Senechal

School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications and Presentations

Delone sets are discrete point sets X in Rd characterized by parameters (r, R), where (usually) 2r is the smallest inter-point distance of X, and R is the radius of a largest “empty ball” that can be inserted into the interstices of X. The regularity radius ρ^d is defined as the smallest positive number ρ such that each Delone set with congruent clusters of radius ρ is a regular system, that is, a point orbit under a crystallographic group. We discuss two conjectures on the growth behavior of the regularity radius. Our “Weak Conjecture” states that ρ^d=O(d2log2d)R as d→∞ , …
