Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF THE TEST PROCEDURE General Tractors are tested at the University of Nebraska according to the Agricultural Tractor Test Code approved by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers or official Nebraska test procedure. The manufacturer selects the tractor to be tested and certifies that it is a stock model. Each tractor is equipped with the common power consuming accessories such as power steering, power lift pump, generator, etc., if available. Power consuming accessories may be disconnected only when the means for disconnecting can be reached from the operating station. An official representative of …

Geometry Of Silicic Dikes Beneath The Inyo Domes, California, Jonathan H. Fink Nov 1985

Geometry Of Silicic Dikes Beneath The Inyo Domes, California, Jonathan H. Fink

Geology Faculty Publications and Presentations

Structural geologic evidence in the vicinity of the Inyo Domes indicates that the youngest extrusive products were erupted from a silicic dike that divided into at least three segments which underwent up to 30° of clockwise rotation as they neared the surface. The geometry of ground cracks, explosion craters, and surface structures on the domes suggest that the dike may have propagated laterally from a source beneath Mammoth Mountain, with both the overall-dike and the individual segments rising as they moved northward. Structural evidence and tephrochronology also imply that the actual vents may have migrated northward along individual dike segments …

Characterizing Soil Deformation By Direct Measurement Within The Profile, Randall K. Wood, Larry G. Wells Nov 1985

Characterizing Soil Deformation By Direct Measurement Within The Profile, Randall K. Wood, Larry G. Wells

Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Faculty Publications

A unique feature of the University of Kentucky soil bin enables deformation to be characterized by studying a cross-sectional soil profile grid pattern. Modular sections of the bin are laterally removed to expose the cross-section after passes of a pneumatic tire.

The measured displacements of the grid points were converted to values of volumetric strain and then compared to soil density as measured by a dual probe gamma-ray density gauge following tests at various soil conditions. Final soil bulk density determinations using the two methods were not statistically different..

Fertilizer Use Changes In The U.S. And Kentucky, Monroe Rasnake, Dan Kirkland Nov 1985

Fertilizer Use Changes In The U.S. And Kentucky, Monroe Rasnake, Dan Kirkland

Soil Science News and Views

The use of inorganic fertilizers for crop production is perhaps the most successful educational program ever attempted by Land-Grant Colleges, the Tennessee Valley Authority and other agencies. Not many producers in the United States or the world will attempt to grow a crop without the use of fertilizers. In fact, some producers over fertilize and in recent years, the educational program has been aimed at teaching producers to limit fertilizer applications to what is actually needed based on soil tests and cropping conditions.

Additive Control Of Stochastic Linear Systems With Finite Horizon, Pao-Liu Chow, José-Luis Menaldi, Maurice Robin Nov 1985

Additive Control Of Stochastic Linear Systems With Finite Horizon, Pao-Liu Chow, José-Luis Menaldi, Maurice Robin

Mathematics Faculty Research Publications

We consider a dynamic system whose state is governed by a linear stochastic differential equation with time-dependent coefficients. The control acts additively on the state of the system. Our objective is to minimize an integral cost which depends upon the evolution of the state and the total variation of the control process. It is proved that the optimal cost is the unique solution of an appropriate free boundary problem in a space-time domain. By using some decomposition arguments, the problems of a two-sided control, i.e. optimal corrections, and the case with constraints on the resources, i.e. finite fuel, can be …

The Design And Implementation Of A High-Speed Incremental Portable Prolog Compiler, Kenneth A. Bowen, Kevin A. Buettner, Ilyas Cicekli, Andrew Turk

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - Technical Reports

The design and implementation of a relatively portable Prolog compiler achieving 12K LIPS on the standard benchmark is described. The compiler is incremental and uses decompilation to implement retract, clause, and listing, as well as support the needs of its four-port debugger. The system supports modules, garbage collection, database pointers, and a full range of built-ins.

Statistics On Logic Simulation, K. F. Wong, Mark A. Franklin, Roger D. Chamberlain, B. L. Shing Nov 1985

Statistics On Logic Simulation, K. F. Wong, Mark A. Franklin, Roger D. Chamberlain, B. L. Shing

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

The high costs associated with logic simulation of large VLSI based systems have led to the need for new computer architectures tailored to the simulation task. Such architecture have the potential for significant speedups over standard software based logic simulators. Several commercial simulation engines have been produced to satisfy need in this area. To properly explore the space of alternative simulation architectures, data is required on the simulation process itself. This paper presents a framework for such data gathering activity by first examining possible sources of speedup in the logic simulation task, examining the sort of data needed in the …

Baltimore Harbor And Channels Aquatic Benthos Investigations : Final Technical Report, Robert J. Diaz, Linda C. Schaffner, Robert J. Byrne, Robert A. Gammisch

Reports

This report describes work performed by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, School of Marine Science of the College of William and Mary, Gloucester Point, VA, to document the existing preoperational conditions at four locations in the Chesapeake Bay selected as possible dredged material disposal areas for the deepening of the Baltimore Channel. The work was sponsored by the Baltimore District Corps of Engineers.

The objectives of this work were at each of the four potential disposal sites:

1 -document the surface (0-15 em) sediment conditions spatially and temporally

2 - document macrobenthic communities spatially and temporally.

3 - empty …

In a target detection communication system, apparatus and method for determining the presence of probable targets based on contacts (which can indicate the presence of a target, noise, chatter, or objects not of interest) detected within a predefined position sector or sectors over a specified number of scans. The position of each detected contact, as a contact of interest, is compared with the positions of contacts detected at previous times or scans. Velocity profiles indicate which previous contacts support the likelihood that the contact of interest represents a target having a velocity within a defined band. The likelihood, which can …

Multiple Trophic Levels In Soft-Bottom Communities, John A. Commito, William G. Ambrose Jr.

Environmental Studies Faculty Publications

In order to assess the general applicability of recent field experiments with predatory infauna, we searched the literature and found 48 well-documented cases of infaunal consumption by such predators. In 63 % of the cases detailed enough to make a determination, the predators ate other predators. Multiple trophic levels within the infauna are probably a common feature of many soft-bottom communities.
