Model Averaging In Agriculture And Natural Resources: What Is It? When Is It Useful? When Is It A Distraction?, Philip M. Dixon May 2022

Model Averaging In Agriculture And Natural Resources: What Is It? When Is It Useful? When Is It A Distraction?, Philip M. Dixon

Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture and Natural Resources

I use two examples to illustrate three methods for model averaging: using AIC weights, using BIC weights, and fully Bayesian analyses. The first example is a capture-recapture study that estimates the population size by averaging over 4 models for capture probabilities. The second is an analysis of a study of logging impacts on Curculionid weevils using a before-after-control-impact (BACI) study design. The estimated impact is averaged over 4 ecologically relevant models.

Both examples demonstrate the sensitivity of model weights, or posterior model probabilities, to the choice of prior model probabilities and prior distributions for parameters. The model averaged estimates and …

Black Carbon Aerosol Number And Mass Concentration Measurements By Picosecond Short-Range Elastic Backscatter Lidar, Romain Ceolato, Andrés E. Bedoya-Velásquez, Frédéric Fossard, Vincent Mouysset, Lucas Paulien, Sidonie Lefebvre, Claudio Mazzoleni, Christopher Sorensen, Matthew J. Berg, Jérôme Yon

Michigan Tech Publications

Black carbon aerosol emissions are recognized as contributors to global warming and air pollution. There remains, however, a lack of techniques to remotely measure black carbon aerosol particles with high range and time resolution. This article presents a direct and contact-free remote technique to estimate the black carbon aerosol number and mass concentration at a few meters from the emission source. This is done using the Colibri instrument based on a novel technique, referred to here as Picosecond Short-Range Elastic Backscatter Lidar (PSR-EBL). To address the complexity of retrieving lidar products at short measurement ranges, we apply a forward inversion …

Echoed Sites And The Unknowable Object, Joseph Canizales May 2022

Echoed Sites And The Unknowable Object, Joseph Canizales

MFA in Visual Art

This thesis will discuss the expanded field of sculpture, simulacra, digital technology, and two terms I’ve devised: the unknowable object, and echoed sites. Within these two terms, I’m concerned with the complicated relationship between humans and geology and how we extract material from the ground without reflecting on the geologic history of the site. In echoed sites I create sculptures with and without a geologic site or object, by way of digital technology. These forms display two states paradoxically in balance, where what’s presented leaves more questions than answers. Thus, as part of echoed sites, exists the unknowable object. …

An Even 2-Factor In The Line Graph Of A Cubic Graph, Seungjae Eom, Kenta Ozeki May 2022

An Even 2-Factor In The Line Graph Of A Cubic Graph, Seungjae Eom, Kenta Ozeki

Theory and Applications of Graphs

An even 2-factor is one such that each cycle is of even length. A 4- regular graph G is 4-edge-colorable if and only if G has two edge-disjoint even 2- factors whose union contains all edges in G. It is known that the line graph of a cubic graph without 3-edge-coloring is not 4-edge-colorable. Hence, we are interested in whether those graphs have an even 2-factor. Bonisoli and Bonvicini proved that the line graph of a connected cubic graph G with an even number of edges has an even 2-factor, if G has a perfect matching [Even cycles and …

A Systematic Literature Review Of Requirements Engineering Education, Marian Daun, Alicia M. Grubb, Viktoria Stenkova, Bastian Tenbergen May 2022

A Systematic Literature Review Of Requirements Engineering Education, Marian Daun, Alicia M. Grubb, Viktoria Stenkova, Bastian Tenbergen

Computer Science: Faculty Publications

Requirements engineering (RE) has established itself as a core software engineering discipline. It is well acknowledged that good RE leads to higher quality software and considerably reduces the risk of failure or budget-overspending of software development projects. It is of vital importance to train future software engineers in RE and educate future requirements engineers to adequately manage requirements in various projects. To this date, there exists no central concept of what RE education shall comprise. To lay a foundation, we report on a systematic literature review of the feld and provide a systematic map describing the current state of RE …
