An extensive compiliation and general evaluation of the literature is presented which describes the temperature interaction with toxicity. Recent literature is summarized and made accessible along with a few generalized relationships such that researchers may design studies in a manner that will increase the utility of their results. A detailed indexing system is employed which makes the information contained in the report accessible by author, toxicant, and text organism. Summary tables of the most pertinent literature are also presented for easy subject retrieval. Six proposed rate equations for sorption kinetics have been investigated by laboratory batch experiments involving some 270 individual “runs” to determine sorption uptake with time for varying conditions of initial sorbate concentration, temperature, and sorbent species. The sorbate selected was rhodamine-B dye, used because it will sorb readily and is easily measured. Two sorbents, Dowex 50 resin, and Filtrasorb 200 activated carbon were used. Temperature conditions were 10, 20, 30, and 40°C, and concentrations ranged from .0008 to 400 micrograms per ml, rhodamine-B. The economic efficiency of water development in Utah, including transfer systems, has seldom been examined, not has the costs of public policies which result in deviations from efficient allocations. In order that public officials be better informed about water allocations, the present effort examines the efficient allocation of water in time frames up to 2020 under several alternative assumtions and calculates that cost of alternative policies. Using mathematical programming techniques, a computer model is developed to determine the supply (marginal cost) and demand (value or marginal product) relationships for agricultural water, given depletions for municipal and industrial (M&I) and wetland …

Accompanying the increased use of water resources is an increases accumulation of chemical pollutants. Te prevent degradation of the water resources beyong useful limits, pollution inputs from additional uses must be quite accurately predicted prior to implementation of the new use. The model described in this report was formulated to provide the required predictive capability for the Bear River Basin. A mass balance simulation model for sorption in a packed bed reactor was developed. All of the terms in the model, consisting of constants of the porous media, and functions, were evaluated by independent laboratory studies. The kinetic term was determined in Part I. Two numerical schemes (an explicit scheme and an implicit scheme respectively) with corresponding computer programs were developed and made operational. They were not tested against laboratory column results due to long times necessary on the computer and corresponding high costs. The 1963 Utah State Legislature authorized the Utah Water and Power Board (now the Utah Division of Water Resources) to develop a state water plan in order to give coordination and direction to the activities of all state and federal agencies concerned with Utah's water resources. A finite difference method is developed to solve the three-dimensional, steady, incompressible, potential flow equations obtained by using a potential function, o, and two mutually orthogonal stream functions, u and u*, to describe the flow. Problems are formulated in an inverse space where the potential function and the two stream functions are the independent variables, and the Cartesian coordinates x, y, and z are the dependent variables. The boundaries of the problem in the physical space, including the free surface, have known positions in the inverse space, so trial and error adjustments to the positions of the boundaries are unnecessary. …

A theoretical and experimental study of the microwave reflectivity of soils with varying moisture content was conducted. A system was developed to measure reflectivity over a continuous frequency range of 4 to 26.5 GHz, at incidence angles from 10° to 70°, and with both horizontal and vertical polarization. The measurements were found to be extremely accurate for smooth homogeneous surfaces, however, the effects of surface roughness were found to be more severe than predicted due to the discontinuous nature of naturally occurring rough surfaces. Streamflow data from unregulated streams in Arkansas were processed through Moran’s Model for a dam. The process involved calculating a cumulative gamma distribution for each stream as the streamflow values were incremented in units of 0.1 cubic feet per second per square mile of drainage area. This gamma distribution was then used as input for Moran’s Model. The output from Moran's Model includes the probability of the reservoir having zero contents as the size of the reservoir is decreased. "The trace metal contents of limestone in the Tri-State zinc-lead district were determined within a single horizon, the M bed. Ninety-six specimens, collected for a previous study of their petrographic character, were analyzed for zinc, lead, and copper using atomic absorption spectrophotometric techniques.
The unaltered M bed limestone at a distance from ore bodies was found to contain only 12-28 ppm zinc, 40-SO ppm lead and 12 ppm or less copper. Those limestone specimens which were found b earlier petrographic study to be altered principally to sparry calcite commonly contain anomalous amounts of zinc and lead. Some also have slightly …

The purpose of this study was to prenare and characterize the palladium (II) and platinum (II) chelates of 1-pyrrolidineacetic acid, 1-piperidineacetic acid, and hexahydro-1-azepineacetic acid.
The ligands were prepared by reacting the cyclic secondary arnines (pyrrolidine, piperidine, and hexahydroazepine) with sodium chloroacetate. The resulting cyclic tertiary amino acids were saponified and, finally, converted to the hydrochloride salts by neutralization with hydrochloric acid.
The chelates were prepared by adding 1.0 millimole of K2PdC14 or K2PtC14 to a solution made by dissolving 2.0 Millimoles of amino acid hydrochloride in 25 ml. of water. The pH was …

Salicylic acid and its concern have long been used for the management of pain, fever, and inflammation. Of this group, acetyl-salicylic acid, or aspirin (ASA) has proved to be the most potent in each case. Although hydrolysis, the first step in biotransformation of aspirin takes place very rapidly, many workers feel that the greater effectiveness is due to a unique action of the intact molecule; however, others disagree. In this study, the effects of aspirin and in vitro were compared in order to obtain a greater amount of information relating to the problem.

Although some organic hydroxy acid complexes of palladium(II) and nickel(II) have been described (1-9), crystalline palladium(II) and mickel(II) dicycloalkanecarboxylates have not been reported.
The interaction of a palladium salt such as NA2PdCl4 or a nickel salt such as NiCl2·6H2 with cycloalkane carboxylic acids which contain 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 carbons produces deep green carboxylates with palladium(II) and yellowish green carboxylates with nickel(II).

This work concerns two new theorems which count the maximum possible number of independent generators of a certain form which leave an ordinary differential equation of second or third order covariant. Sophus Lic has derived such theorems for a particular class of transformations. The new theorems contain Lic’s theorems as a suboase, and are therefore called ‘generalized” theorems.

"The St. Louis Limestone and its equivalent formations crop out from Alaska south to Sonora and from Arizona east to Virginia. The St. Louis, in most cases, is fossiliferous and contains numerous species of foraminifers, echinoderms, bryozoans, molluscans, brachipods, arthropods and coelenterates. Algal mounds and mats are common. The rugose coral fauna of the Middle Mississippian (Meramecian) St. Louis Limestone of southern Calhoun County, Illinois and northern St. Louis County, Missouri was studied to determine first what corals were present and second the validity of the names assigned to the previously described species. "The Earth Resources Technology Satellite (ERTS) program has supplied the scientist with high resolution multispectral imagery of a large portion or the earth. Photographic and electronic methods of image enhancement are not universally available to those who might profit from such endeavors.
Diazo products were found to be satisfactory for creation of false color enhancement of ERTS multispectral data. The purpose of the enhancement was to make the Diazochrome composite comparable to more sophisticated methods for the purpose of interpretation. "The design and calibration of a vibrating sample magnetometer is described. The sample motion was in the direction of the external magnetic field which was produced by a superconducting solenoid. The maximum external magnetic field was 70 kilogauss. Sample temperature could be varied from 77°K to 1000°K with a vacuum jacketed furnace. The maximum temperature was obtained with approximately 27 watts. The instrument was calibrated to 1% with a spherical nickel sample"--Abstract, page ii.

"The need for the study of microfossils such as foraminifera, conodonts, and otoliths as stratigraphic tools has been well established. However, disarticulated parts such as otoliths and conodonts cannot be effectively used unless they can be recognized. Otoliths, although somewhat unrecognized in the geological record, are far more abundant than articulated skeletons (Frizzell, 1965, p. 86). Therefore, much investigation is being conducted to reveal the origin, function, morphology, and usefulness of the otoliths of fishes.
In this investigation, the asteriscus, well developed only in Ostariophysins (of which the carp is a member), is studied for morphology. New tentative terms are …
