Notes On The Quadraticity Of Linear Combinations Of A Cubic Matrix And A Quadratic Matrix That Commute, Tuğba Peti̇k, Hali̇m Özdemi̇r, Burak Tufan Gökmen

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let $A_{1}$ and $A_{2}$ be an $\{\alpha_{1}, \beta_{1}, \gamma_{1}\}$-cubic matrix and an $\{\alpha_{2}, \beta_{2}\}$-quadratic matrix, respectively, with $\alpha_{1} \neq \beta_{1}$, $\beta_{1} \neq \gamma_{1}$, $\alpha_{1} \neq \gamma_{1}$ and $\alpha_{2}\neq \beta_{2}$. In this work, we characterize all situations in which the linear combination $A_{3}=a_{1}A_{1}+a_{2}A_{2}$ with the assumption $A_{1}A_{2}=A_{2}A_{1}$ is an $\{\alpha_{3}, \beta_{3}\}$-quadratic matrix, where $a_{1}$ and $a_{2}$ are unknown nonzero complex numbers.

Ranks And Presentations For Order-Preserving Transformations With One Fixed Point, Joerg Koppitz, Somnuek Worawiset

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In the present paper, we consider the semigroup $O_{n,p}$ of all order-preserving full transformations $\alpha $ on an n-elements chain $X_{n}$% , where $p\in X_{n}$ is the only fixed point of $\alpha $. The nilpotent semigroup $O_{n,p}$ was first studied by Ayik et al. in 2011. Moreover, $% O_{n,1}$ is the maximal nilpotent subsemigroup of the Catalan Monoid $C_{n}$. Its rank is the difference of the $(n-1)$th and the $(n-2)$th Catalan number. The aim of the present paper is to provide further fundamental information about the nilpotent semigroup $O_{n,p}$. We will calculate the rank of $O_{n,p}$ for $% p>1$ …

Cnn Based Sensor Fusion Method For Real-Time Autonomous Robotics Systems, Berat Yildiz, Aki̇f Durdu, Ahmet Kayabaşi, Mehmet Duramaz

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Autonomous robotic systems (ARS) serve in many areas of daily life. The sensors have critical importance for these systems. The sensor data obtained from the environment should be as accurate and reliable as possible and correctly interpreted by the autonomous robot. Since sensors have advantages and disadvantages over each other they should be used together to reduce errors. In this study, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based sensor fusion was applied to ARS to contribute the autonomous driving. In a real-time application, a camera and LIDAR sensor were tested with these networks. The novelty of this work is that the uniquely …

Advancing Competency In Managing Risk And Knowledge: Steps Toward Operationalisation Of The Risk-Knowledge Infinity Cycle (Rki Cycle) - Part 1: Improving Effectiveness Of Risk-Based Decision Making (Rbdm), Martin Lipa, Paige Kane, Anne Greene

Articles

To date, literature on the Risk-Knowledge Infinity Cycle (RKI Cycle) has mainly been theoretical. This paper series intent is to focus on the operationalisation of the RKI Cycle by describing a series of steps – the “How to” – for RKI Cycle deployment, to help move the RKI Cycle from theory to practice. The first paper in this series focuses on how the RKI Cycle can support effective Risk-Based Decision Making (RBDM).

First Long-Time Airborne Fungal Spores Study In Dublin, Ireland (1978–1980), Moisés Martínez-Bracero, Emma Markey, Jerry Hourihane Clancy, John Sodeau, David J. O'Connor

Articles

Ambient fungal spores within the atmosphere can contribute to a range of negative human, animal and plant health conditions and diseases. However, trends in fungal spore seasonality, species prevalence, and geographical origin have been significantly understudied in Ireland. Previously unpublished data from the late 1970s have recently been collected and analysed to establish historical fungal spore trends/characteristics for Dublin. Historical spore concentrations were largely dominated by Alternaria, Ascospores, Basidiospores, Botrytis, Cladosporium, Erysiphe and Rusts. The main fungal spore season for Dublin commenced in April with the fructification of Scopulariopsis and Ganoderma. However, the vast majority of other spore types did …

Tackling microbial resistance requires continuous efforts for the development of new molecules with novel mechanisms of action and potent antimicrobial activity. Our group has previously identified metal-based compounds, [Ag(1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione)2]ClO4 (Ag-phendione) and [Cu(1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione)3](ClO4)2.4H2O (Cu-phendione), with efficient antimicrobial action against multidrug-resistant species. Herein, we investigated the ability of Ag-phendione and Cu-phendione to bind with double-stranded DNA using a combination of in silico and in vitro approaches. Molecular docking revealed that both phendione derivatives can interact with the DNA by hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions. Cu-phendione exhibited the highest binding affinity to either major (− 7.9 kcal/mol) or minor (− 7.2 kcal/mol) …

"What's In A Name?”: The Use Of Instructional Design In Overcoming Terminology Barriers Associated With Dark Patterns, Andrea Curley, Damian Gordon, Dympna O'Sullivan Jan 2022

"What's In A Name?”: The Use Of Instructional Design In Overcoming Terminology Barriers Associated With Dark Patterns, Andrea Curley, Damian Gordon, Dympna O'Sullivan

Conference Papers

Many users experience a phenomena when they are shopping on-line where they feel they are being pressured to either spend more money than they had intended, or to share more personal data than they wanted. In academic circles we use the term “Dark Patterns” to describe these deceptive practices, and categorize them as being within the discipline of User Experience (Narayanan, 2020). As academics it is important to name phenomena, and to categorize them, so that we can discuss and analyze these issues. However, this particular topic is one that all users should be made aware of when interacting online, …

Towards An Instant Structure-Property Prediction Quality Control Tool For Additive Manufactured Steel Using A Crystal Plasticity Trained Deep Learning Surrogate, Yuhui Tu, Zhongzhou Liu, Luiz Carneiro, Caitriona M. Ryan, Andrew C. Parnell, Sean B. Leen Jan 2022

Towards An Instant Structure-Property Prediction Quality Control Tool For Additive Manufactured Steel Using A Crystal Plasticity Trained Deep Learning Surrogate, Yuhui Tu, Zhongzhou Liu, Luiz Carneiro, Caitriona M. Ryan, Andrew C. Parnell, Sean B. Leen

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

The ability to conduct in-situ real-time process-structure-property checks has the potential to overcome process and material uncertainties, which are key obstacles to improved uptake of metal powder bed fusion in industry. Efforts are underway for live process monitoring such as thermal and image-based data gathering for every layer printed. Current crystal plasticity finite element (CPFE) modelling is capable of predicting the associated strength based on a microstructural image and material data but is computationally expensive. This work utilizes a large database of input–output samples from CPFE modelling to develop a trained deep neural network (DNN) model which instantly estimates the …

Exploring The Potential Of Water-Soluble Cu(Ii) Complexes With Mpa–Cdte Quantum Dots For Photoinduced Electron Transfer, Niharika Krishna Botcha, Rithvik R. Gutha, Seyed M. Sadeghi, Anusree Mukherjee Jan 2022

Exploring The Potential Of Water-Soluble Cu(Ii) Complexes With Mpa–Cdte Quantum Dots For Photoinduced Electron Transfer, Niharika Krishna Botcha, Rithvik R. Gutha, Seyed M. Sadeghi, Anusree Mukherjee

Research, Publications & Creative Work

Three water-soluble copper complexes based on the amine/pyridine functionalities were investigated, along with quantum dots, as a catalyst–photosensitizer assembly, respectively, for fundamental understanding of photoinduced electron transfer. Luminescence quenching and lifetime measurements were performed to try and establish the actual process that leads to the quenching, such as electron transfer, energy transfer, or complex formation (static quenching). Cyclic voltammetry and dynamic light scattering experiments were also performed. Irrespective of the similar reduction potentials of the three complexes, very different photoluminescence properties were observed.

Some Relations Between Almost Paracontact Metric Manifolds And Almost Parahermitian Manifolds, Nüli̇fer Özdemi̇r, Neci̇p Erdoğan

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this study, almost paracontact metric manifolds and almost para-Hermitian manifolds are considered. The relations between almost paracontact metric manifolds and almost para-Hermitian manifolds are investigated and certain results are acquired. Examples of almost para-Hermitian manifolds are presented using the determined relations.

Univalence Criteria For Analytic Functions Obtained Using Fuzzydifferential Subordinations, Georgia Irina Oros Jan 2022

Univalence Criteria For Analytic Functions Obtained Using Fuzzydifferential Subordinations, Georgia Irina Oros

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Ever since Lotfi A. Zadeh published the paper "Fuzzy Sets" in 1965 setting the basis of a new theory named fuzzy sets theory, many scientists have developed this theory and its applications. Mathematicians were especially interested in extending classical mathematical results in the fuzzy context. Such an extension was also done relating fuzzy sets theory and geometric theory of analytic functions. The study begun in 2011 has many interesting published outcomes and the present paper follows the line of the previous research in the field. The aim of the paper is to give some references related to the connections already …

Induced Polynomial Structures On Generalized Geometry, Fernando Etayo, Pablo Gomez Nicolas, Rafael Santamaria Jan 2022

Induced Polynomial Structures On Generalized Geometry, Fernando Etayo, Pablo Gomez Nicolas, Rafael Santamaria

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we study different geometric structures that can be defined as section endomorphisms of the generalized tangent bundle $\mathbb TM := TM\oplus T^*M\to M$. This vector bundle admits some structures that arise canonically and other that can be induced from geometric structures defined on the manifold. We comment some well-known examples and present new structures, focusing on the polynomial structures that can be induced in the generalized tangent bundle.

A Series Evaluation Technique Based On A Modified Abel Lemma, John Maxwell Campbell, Marco Cantarini Jan 2022

A Series Evaluation Technique Based On A Modified Abel Lemma, John Maxwell Campbell, Marco Cantarini

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We introduce a technique for determining infinite series identities through something of a combination of the modified Abel lemma on summation by parts and a method of undetermined coefficients. We succeed in applying our technique in our proving a nontrivial variant of Gauss' hypergeometric identity, giving us an evaluation for a family of ${}_{3}F_{2}(1)$-series with three free parameters, and to establish a ${}_{3}F_{2}(-1)$-variant of Kummer's hypergeometric identity. Also, we apply the technique upon which this article is based to formulate a new and simplified proof of a remarkable series evaluation recently derived by Cantarini via the generalized Clebsch-Gordan integral.

Formal Categorical Reasoning, Burak Eki̇ci̇ Jan 2022

Formal Categorical Reasoning, Burak Eki̇ci̇

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we present a category theory library developed in the proof assistant Coq. We discuss the design principles of the library in comparison with those existing out there. To explicitly demonstrate the utility of the library, we conclude with a case study in which a Coq formalized soundness proof of the intuitionistic propositional logic within a category theoretical settings is examined.

Capelli Identities On Algebras With Involution Or Graded Involution, Francesca Saviella Benanti, Angela Valenti Jan 2022

Capelli Identities On Algebras With Involution Or Graded Involution, Francesca Saviella Benanti, Angela Valenti

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We present recent results about Capelli polynomials with involution or graded involution and their asymptotics. In the associative case, the asymptotic equality between the codimensions of the $T$-ideal generated by the Capelli polynomial of rank $k^2+1$ and the codimensions of the matrix algebra $M_k(F)$ was proved. This result was extended to superalgebras. Recently, similar results have been determined by the authors in the case of algebras with involution and superalgebras with graded involution.

Symmetric Polynomials In Free Associative Algebras, Silvia Boumova, Vesselin Drensky, Deyan Dzhundrekov, Martin Kassabov

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

By a result of Margarete Wolf in 1936, we know that the algebra $K\langle X_d\rangle^{Sym(d)}$ of symmetric polynomials in noncommuting variables is not finitely generated. In 1984, Koryukin proved that if we equip the homogeneous component of degree $n$ with the additional action of $Sym(n)$ by permuting the positions of the variables, then the algebra of invariants $K\langle X_d\rangle^G$ of every reductive group $G$ is finitely generated. First, we make a short comparison between classical invariant theory of finite groups and its noncommutative counterpart. Then, we expose briefly the results of Wolf. Finally, we present the main result of our …

On The Expansion Of The Multiplicity-Free Plethysms $ P_{2}[S_{(A, B)} ] $ And $ P_{2}[S_{(1^{R}, 2^{T})}] $, Luisa Carini

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We show how to compute the explicit expansion of the plethysm $ p_{2}[s_{\lambda}]$ of the power symmetric function $ p_{2}$ and the Schur function $ s_{\lambda}$, where $\lambda$ has either two rows or two columns, via the well known Littlewood-Richardson coefficients which occur in the decomposition of $ s^{2}_{\lambda}$.

On Nowicki's Conjecture: A Survey And A New Result, Lucio Centrone, Andre Dushimirimana, Şehmus Findik

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The goal of the paper is twofold: it aims to give an extensive set of tools and bibliography towards Nowicki's conjecture both in for polynomial algebras and in an associative setting; it establishes a new result about Nowicki's conjecture for the free metabelian Poisson algebra.

Henselian Discrete Valued Stable Fields, Ivan Chipchakov Jan 2022

Henselian Discrete Valued Stable Fields, Ivan Chipchakov

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let $(K, v)$ be a Henselian discrete valued field with residue field $\widehat K$ of characteristic $q \ge 0$, and Brd$_{p}(K)$ be the Brauer $p$-dimension of $K$, for each prime $p$. The present paper shows that if $p = q$, then Brd$_{p}(K) \le 1$ if and only if $\widehat K$ is a $p$-quasilocal field and the degree $[\widehat K\colon \widehat K ^{p}]$ is $\le p$. This complements our earlier result that, in case $p \neq q$, we have Brd$_{p}(K) \le 1$ if and only if $\widehat K$ is $p$-quasilocal and Brd$_{p}(\widehat K) \le 1$.

Bound For The Cocharacters Of The Identities Of Irreducible Representations Of $\Mathfrak{Sl}_2(\Mathbb{C})$, Mátyás Domokos

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

For each irreducible finite dimensional representation of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$ of $2\times 2$ traceless matrices, an explicit uniform upper bound is given for the multiplicities in the cocharacter sequence of the polynomial identities satisfied by the given representation.

On The Mesyan Conjecture, Pedro Souza Fagundes, Thiago Castilho De Mello, Pedro Henrique Da Silva Dos Santos Jan 2022

On The Mesyan Conjecture, Pedro Souza Fagundes, Thiago Castilho De Mello, Pedro Henrique Da Silva Dos Santos

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The well-known Lvov--Kaplansky conjecture states that the image of a multilinear polynomial $f$ evaluated on $n\times n$ matrices is a vector space. A weaker version of this conjecture, known as the Mesyan conjecture, states that if $m=\deg f$ and $n\geq m-1$ then its image contains the set of trace zero matrices. Such conjecture has been proved for polynomials of degree $m \leq 4$. The proof of the case $m=4$ contains an error in one of the lemmas. In this paper, we correct the proof of such lemma and present some evidence which allows us to state the Mesyan conjecture for …

$\Mathbb{Z}$-Graded Identities On The Infinite-Dimensional Grassmann Algebra And Arithmetic Tools: Revisited, Claudemir Fidelis Jan 2022

$\Mathbb{Z}$-Graded Identities On The Infinite-Dimensional Grassmann Algebra And Arithmetic Tools: Revisited, Claudemir Fidelis

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The main purpose of this paper is to provide a survey of results concerning the $\mathbb{Z}$-gradings on the infinite-dimensional Grassmann algebra $E$ over a field of characteristic zero. First, we provide graded identities and central polynomials for $E$ equipped with fine gradings on $E$ by the semigroup $(\mathbb{Z}^\ast,\times)$. We also describe briefly techniques in order to illustrate some important methods to exhibit graded identities and central polynomials of $E$ for other abelian groups. In particular, over a field of characteristic zero, so-called $2$-induced gradings of full support were considered. In order to obtain these descriptions, we strongly use elementary number …

Computing Forgotten Topological Index Of Zero-Divisor Graphs Of Commutative Rings, Ari̇f Gürsoy, Necla Kircali Gürsoy, Alper Ülker

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The main objective of this paper is to calculate the forgotten topological index of the zero-divisor graph of $\mathbb{Z}_n$. Let $p$, $q$ and $r$ be distinct prime numbers. We calculate the forgotten topological index of the ring $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z}_n)$ where $n=p^\alpha, pq, p^2q, p^2q^2, pqr$. Also, we study the forgotten topological index of the product of rings of integers modulo $n$. We construct a polynomial algorithm to compute the forgotten topological index of $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z}_n)$.

Depth And Stanley Depth Of The Quotient Rings Of Edge Ideals Of Some Lobster Trees And Unicyclic Graphs, Adnan Iqbal, Muhammad Ishaq

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We compute depth and Stanley depth of the quotient rings of the edge ideals associated with different classes of graphs. These classes include some lobster trees and unicyclic graphs. We show that the values of depth and Stanley depth are equal for the classes we considered.

On Central Polynomials And Codimension Growth, Fabrizio Martino

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let $A$ be an associative algebra over a field of characteristic zero. A central polynomial is a polynomial of the free associative algebra that takes central values of $A.$ In this survey, we present some recent results about the exponential growth of the central codimension sequence and the proper central codimension sequence in the setting of algebras with involution and algebras graded by a finite group.

Codimensions Of Algebras With Additional Structures, Daniela La Mattina Jan 2022

Codimensions Of Algebras With Additional Structures, Daniela La Mattina

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let $A$ be an associative algebra endowed with an automorphism or an antiautomorphism $\varphi$ of order $\leq 2.$ One associates to $A,$ in a natural way, a numerical sequence $c^\varphi_n(A),$ $n=1, 2, \ldots$, called the sequence of $\varphi$-codimensions of $A$ which is the main tool for the quantitative investigation of the polynomial identities satisfied by $A$. In \cite{GLM} it was proved that such a sequence is eventually nondecreasing in case $\varphi$ is an antiautomorphism. Here we prove that it still holds in case $\varphi$ is an automorphism and present some recent results about the asymptotics of $c^\varphi_n(A)$.

On $(A,D)$-Edge Local Antimagic Coloring Number Of Graphs, Rajkumar Sundaramoorthy, Nalliah Moviri Chettiar

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

For any graph $G=(V,E),$ the order and size of G are $p$ and $q$. A bijection $l$ from $V(G)$ to $\{1,2,..,p\}$ is called $(a,d)$-edge local antimagic labeling if for any two adjacent edges are not received the same edge-weight (color) and the set of all edge-weights are formed an arithmetic progression $\{a,a+d,a+2d,\dots,a+(c-1)d\}$, for some integers $a,d>0$ and $c$ is the number of distinct colors used in the proper coloring.} An edge-weight (color) $w(uv)$ is the sum of two end vertices labels, $w(uv)=f(u)+f(v),uv\in E(G).$ The $(a,d)$-edge local antimagic coloring number is the least color (edge-weight) used in any $(a,d)$-edge local …

On $ Mj $-Clean Ring And Strongly $ Mj $-Clean Ring, Gülşen Ulucak, Arda Kör

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we introduce the concepts of $ mj $-clean and strongly $ mj $-clean rings which are generalizations of $ j $-clean ring and strongly $ j $-clean ring, respectively. Let $ R $ be a ring with a nonzero identity and $ m\geq 2 $ a positive integer. We call the ring $ R $ as $ mj $-clean if each element of $ R$ can be written as a sum of an $ m $-potent and an element of $J(R)$ and also if these elements are commute, then we call $R$ as strongly $ mj $-clean …

On The Geodesics Of Deformed Sasaki Metric, Nour Elhouda Djaa, Abderrahim Zagane

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We define in this note a natural metric over the tangent bundle $TM$ by using a vertical deformation of Sasaki metric. First we present the geometric result concerning the Levi-Civita connection and all forms of Riemannian curvature tensors of this metric. Secondly, we study the geodesics on the tangent bundle $TM$ and unit tangent bundle $T_{1}M$. Finally, we characterize the geodesic curvatures on $T_{1}M$.
