Investigation Of Hazelnut Shells Driven Hard Carbons As Anode For Sodium-Ion Batteriesproduced By Hydrothermal Carbonization Method, Eli̇f Canbaz, Meral Aydin, Rezan Demi̇r Çakan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

To be used as Na-ion battery anodes, hard carbon electrodes are synthesized from biomass, explicitly hazelnut shell (HS): via hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) followed by further pyrolysis at different temperatures (500, 750, 1000 °C). Then, the resulting hazelnut shell-based hard carbons are investigated using various methods including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, galvanostatic charge/discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The effects of binders (PVdF, Na-alginate, CMC, and PAA) on electrochemical performance are determined. The obtained composite electrodes with different binders are tested in sodium half-cell configurations. A strong correlation is recognized between carbonization temperature and electrochemical performances and structural …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, a water-soluble metal-free phthalocyanine (SPC) containing sodium 2-mercaptoethanesulfonate substituents at the peripheral positions was used to investigate the algaecidal properties and oxidative effects on the growth of two microalgal species, Arthrospira platensis and Chlorella vulgaris. Although OD at 560 nm and chlorophyll-a content were decreased in Arthrospira platensis during 7 days depending on dose and time, increases in both OD at 750 and chlorophyll-a content at 8 ppb (parts per billion) concentration on the 7th day were observed in Chlorella vulgaris. However, total SOD (superoxide dismutase) and GR (glutathione reductase) enzyme activity of A. platensis cultures did …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Hybrid nanostructures decorated with glycopolymers are appropriate for biomedical applications. In this paper, the results are obtained from nanographene (NG) decorated with glycoblock copolymer to increase their potential in use in therapies and in examining lectin interactions. A pyren-1-ylmethyl 4-cyano-4-((phenylcarbonothioyl)thio)pentanoate (CPADB-py) chain transfer agent was used in the synthesis of methyl methacrylate glycoblock copolymers (P2 and P3) by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization to adhere the polymer to the nanographene surface. Hybrid nanographenes (NG-1 and NG-2) were obtained by the non-covalent interaction of deprotected P2 and P3 with different fructopyranose groups (3-O-methacryloyl-1,2:4,5- di-O-isopropylidene-β-D-fructopyranose and 1-O-methacryloyl-2,3:4,5-di-O-isopropylidene-β-D-fructopyranose) in their backbones. Cerium And Europium Doped Tio2 Thin Films Deposited By A Sol-Gel Dip-Coating Process: Characterization And Photocatalytic Activity Toward Dye Degradation, Dalanda Hamdi, Lobna Mansouri, Varsha Srivastava, Mika Sillanpaa, Latifa Bousselmi

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Cerium (Ce) and europium (Eu)-doped TiO2 thin films were obtained by sol-gel dip-coating technique. SEM micrographs showed that the surfaces are covered by agglomerated particles due to the repeating coating process. XRD patterns showed the presence of TiO2 anatase phase. Raman spectra revealed that the peaks recorded at 146 cm-1(Eg) and 397 cm-1(B1g) were related to the anatase phase. EIS measurements proved that Ce-TiO2 (1wt%) and Eu-TiO2 (0.1wt%) photocatalysts possessed a lower electron transfer resistance than pure TiO2, which can lead to effective separation of electron/ hole pairs during the photoreactions. The photoactivity of Ce and Eu-doped TiO2 was investigated …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Sorbitol is one of the platform chemicals and can be produced from various renewable and sustainable sources via different processes. Hydrothermal liquefaction is an effective and promising approach to produce sorbitol, since the subcritical reaction media and appropriate catalysts provide a selective production of platform chemicals. In this study, sorbitol was produced from different renewable sources (cellulose and glucose) in the presence of Ru-based catalysts (Ru/SiO2, Ru/AC, Ru/SBA-15, and Ru/SBA-15-SO3) under subcritical conditions. The highest cellulose conversion was achieved as 90% in the presence of Ru/SBA-15-SO3 for 1 h of reaction duration. The highest sorbitol yield (%) by hydrothermal liquefaction …

Bovine Serum Albumin Detection By Using Molecularly Imprinted Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensors, Ali̇ Araz

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Molecular imprinted polymers (MIP) have key-lock pattern binding properties specific to the size and shape of target molecules. In this study, we have prepared detection platforms based on a molecularly imprinted surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor that can detect bovine serum albumin (BSA) sensitively, selectively, quickly, and in real time. The polymeric film prepared on the SPR sensor surface by molecular imprinting method was obtained by selecting the N-methacryloyl-(L)-glutamic acid molecule as a suitable functional monomer using ultraviolet polymerization. Three different imprinting methods, such as epitope, bulk, and surface imprinting methods, were used to examine the imprinting efficiency. Real-time measurements …

Polyurethane foams have good shock-absorbing properties. This article discusses the study of the physical, dynamic analysis, and microstructure of filled polyurethane foams (PUR). We used mineral fillings nanoparticles of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and calcium carbonate (C1) to support and strengthen the foam cell structure to develop shock absorption and thermal resistance properties. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and compression tests compared the mechanic characterization results with different modelling approaches. For studies of physicochemical properties, we used differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). We deduced the flame retardancy mechanism. It appears that a detailed description of the characteristics of viscosity …
