Turtlebot utilizes a rotating Kinect sensor in order to perceive its path. Various angles were examined in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the system in experiments conducted on a U-shaped experimental pathway. The Turtlebot was used as an experimental device during these trials. Based on …

Bird Strike Hazard Assessment For The Tampa International Airport, Florida, Usa, Yakubu Ogwu Isah Mar 2024

Bird Strike Hazard Assessment For The Tampa International Airport, Florida, Usa, Yakubu Ogwu Isah

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Managing wildlife at airports poses a challenge for ensuring safety for aviation traffic. Airports, with their surrounding habitats and infrastructure, serve as attractants for avian species. Threats created by these species have led managers to develop management techniques in and around airports (DeVault et al 2013). One approach is the use of geographic information systems (GIS) for analyzing avian strike data and airport bird surveys. Spatial analysis of strike data identifies species of threat by categorizing strike occurrence, species sizes, phase of flight, and risk of damage. In addition, GIS can be used to map hotspots of bird strikes. These …

Asymptotics Of The Rate Function In The Large Deviation Principle For Sums Of Independent Identically Distributed Random Variables, Iosif Pinelis

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 2

Let Λ∗be the rate function in the large deviation principle for the sums X1 + · · · + Xn of independent identically distributed random variables X1, X2, …. It is shown that Λ∗(x) ∼ − ln P(X1 ≥ x) (as x → ∞) if and only if ln P(X1 ≥ x) ∼ L0(x) for some concave function L0. The main ingredient of the proof is the general, explicit expression of a suitable quasi-minimizer in t ≥ 0 of the Bernstein–Chernoff upper bound e−txEetX1 on P(X1 ≥ x), which is amenable to analysis and, at the same time, is close …

Alternative Robust Ways Of Witnessing Nonclassicality In The Simplest Scenario, Massy Khoshbin, Lorenzo Catani, Matthew Leifer

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

In this paper we relate notions of nonclassicality in what is known as the simplest nontrivial scenario (a prepare and measure scenario composed of four preparations and two binary-outcome tomographically complete measurements). Specifically, we relate the established method developed by Pusey [M. F. Pusey, Phys. Rev. A 98, 022112 (2018)] to witness a violation of preparation noncontextuality, that is not suitable in experiments where the operational equivalences to be tested are specified in advance, with an approach based on the notion of bounded ontological distinctness for preparations, defined by Chaturvedi and Saha [A. Chaturvedi and D. Saha, Quantum …

Advanced Hyperthermia Treatment: Optimizing Microwave Energy Focus For Breast Cancer Therapy, Burak Acar, Tuba Yilmaz Abdolsaheb, Ali Yapar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents a fast antenna phase optimization scheme to enable microwave power focusing for breast cancer hyperthermia. The power focusing is achieved through the maximization of the deposited electric field on the target malignant tumor tissue. To do so, a malignant breast tumor, the surrounding breast medium, and the skin of the breast are modeled as a cylindrical structure composed of eccentric cylinders, and electric field distribution is computed analytically in terms of cylindrical harmonics. This approach minimized the computational cost and simplified the breast medium model. To ensure applicability across various breast types, the dielectric properties (DPs) of …
