Simulations Of An Attack On Rsa, Makayla Ferrell May 2021

Simulations Of An Attack On Rsa, Makayla Ferrell

Student Research Submissions

We introduce a variation of Shanks’ baby-step/giant-step (BSGS) to carry out a chosen plaintext attack on RSA. The original usage of BSGS is to find a solution to the discrete log problem. Although BSGS is guaranteed to find a solution, it is not guaranteed to find the matching RSA private key. Our variation of BSGS finds the matching private key d by using the order of the plaintext message to generate a set of solutions. We then use the length of this set to determine the most likely candidate for φ(n). We use a large data set to test the …

Environment-Friendly Flame Retardants For Bio-Based Polyurethanes, Felipe Martins De Souza May 2021

Environment-Friendly Flame Retardants For Bio-Based Polyurethanes, Felipe Martins De Souza

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Finding alternative ways to decrease the large consumption of non-renewable resources has been one of the greatest challenges faced by the industry and academia. The trend of using bio-renewable-based materials is an interesting alternative to tackle environmental issues as well as provide economically viable materials. In this work, carvone, an essential oil, was used to synthesize a bio-based polyol through a thiol-ene reaction. The chemical functions were analyzed through Fourier transformed infrared spectrum (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), viscosity, and hydroxyl number, which confirmed the synthesis of carvone-based polyol. The latter was then physically blended with three different flame-retardants separately: …

Deciphering The Ecology Of Aulacoseira Taxa In Alpine Lakes: Implications For Paleoclimate Reconstructions, Edna Luz Pedraza Garzon May 2021

Deciphering The Ecology Of Aulacoseira Taxa In Alpine Lakes: Implications For Paleoclimate Reconstructions, Edna Luz Pedraza Garzon

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Diatoms of the genus Aulacoseira are thought to bloom during enhanced lake mixing. Thus, changes in their relative abundances in lake sediment records may track lake thermal conditions and be used to reconstruct past climate. However, the lack of species-specific ecological information for the genus, and taxonomical conflicts for low-height mantle taxa, generates uncertainty about the conditions in which they occur. As many of the environmental reconstructions analyzing alpine lake sediments report species from this genus, it is relevant to understand the factors that control their growth and persistence to improve climate inferences. This research focused on low-mantle species, particularly …

Farmer Engagement Through Mental Modeling: Opportunities For Climate Change Outreach, Ruth S, Clements May 2021

Farmer Engagement Through Mental Modeling: Opportunities For Climate Change Outreach, Ruth S, Clements

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Climate change poses a challenge to farming systems worldwide. Effective adaptation and mitigation may be facilitated by outreach that is locally tailored and framed in terms of farmers’ perceptions and values. However, existing research suggests that farmers and those providing outreach may have different climate change perspectives, and there is little understanding of how farmers consider and prioritize climate change in relation to other aspects of their farming system. Furthermore, the diverse agricultural, economic, social, and environmental challenges farmers face require agricultural research and engagement efforts that can identify and adapt to farmers’ dynamic priorities and perceptions. Mental modeling is …

Facile Synthesis Of Metal Oxides, Sulphides, And Phosphides For Enhanced Energy Applications, Alfred Nkhama May 2021

Facile Synthesis Of Metal Oxides, Sulphides, And Phosphides For Enhanced Energy Applications, Alfred Nkhama

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

An access to reliable, sustainable, eco-friendly and cost-effective energy supply is being challenged by the global increase in population and the rapid technological advancement. Sophisticated systems, machinery and various devices being innovated, require the steady energy supply for their operations and applicability. To have reliable energy, numerous researches are being conducted through various approaches across the world. In this research work, the facile approach in investigating and tuning the materials properties was employed to improve energy properties of metal oxides. Nanostructured NiFe-oxide and CoFe-oxide were synthesized using a facile coprecipitation method. It was revealed that; nanostructured materials have favorable structures …

Real-Time Pm10 Emission Rates From Paved Roads By Measurement Of Concentrations In The Vehicle's Wake Using On-Board Sensors Part 2. Gillies, George Nikolich, David E. James, Rodney Langston, Russell S. Merle Jr. May 2021

Real-Time Pm10 Emission Rates From Paved Roads By Measurement Of Concentrations In The Vehicle's Wake Using On-Board Sensors Part 2. Comparison Of Scamper, Traker™, Flux Measurements, And Ap-42 Silt Sampling Under Controlled Conditions, Dennis R. Fitz, Kurt Bullimer, Vic Etyemezian, Hampden D. Kuhns, John A. Gillies, George Nikolich, David E. James, Rodney Langston, Russell S. Merle Jr.

Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction Faculty Research

Representative soil was evenly applied to an 800-m section of road surface. The test area was of sufficient length to allow for measurement at constant speeds of up to 72 km hr−1. SCAMPER and TRAKER™ mobile measurement vehicles made repeated test runs while an instrumented tower measured upwind-downwind horizontal PM10 flux. AP-42 methods were used to collect silt samples and calculate PM10 emission factors. Both silt loadings and vehicle speeds were varied during the experiment. Street sweeping the as-found roadway showed an initial rise in PM10 emission rates. Both TRAKER and SCAMPER measured rapid decay of PM10 emission rates after …

Krein Reproducing Kernel Modules In Clifford Analysis, Daniel Alpay, Paula Cerejeiras, Uwe Kähler May 2021

Krein Reproducing Kernel Modules In Clifford Analysis, Daniel Alpay, Paula Cerejeiras, Uwe Kähler

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

Classic hypercomplex analysis is intimately linked with elliptic operators, such as the Laplacian or the Dirac operator, and positive quadratic forms. But there are many applications like the crystallographic X-ray transform or the ultrahyperbolic Dirac operator which are closely connected with indefinite quadratic forms. Although appearing in many papers in such cases Hilbert modules are not the right choice as function spaces since they do not reflect the induced geometry. In this paper we are going to show that Clifford-Krein modules are naturally appearing in this context. Even taking into account the difficulties, e.g., the existence of different inner products …

Analyses And Creation Of Author Stylized Text, Keith Carlson May 2021

Analyses And Creation Of Author Stylized Text, Keith Carlson

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Written text is one of the major ways that humans communicate their thoughts. A single thought can be expressed through many different combinations of words, and the writer must choose which they will use. We call the idea which is communicated the content of the message, and the particular words chosen to express the content, the style. The same content expressed in a different style may tell something useful about the author of the text (e.g., the author's identity), may be easier to understand for different audiences, or may evoke different emotions in the reader.

In this work we explore …
