Stereo Matching Based On Pyramid Transform Cross-Scale Cost Aggregation, Yao Li, Zhukui Liu, Bingfeng Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Human visual system processes the received visual signals on different scales, however, the traditional stereo matching algorithms get the disparity map from the original image in the biggest scale, which will lead to high stereo matching error rate in the area of low-texture, texture-less area. Simulation of the human visual system in stereo matching on multiple scales can reduce error rate. A stereo matching method based on the Gaussian pyramid cross-scale transform was improved, by adding the Laplace Pyramid Transform to the original cross-scale framework and adding the weighted joint bilateral filter in the disparity refinement stage. The …

Modifications To Gravitational Wave Equation From Canonical Quantum Gravity, Andrea Dapor, Klaus Liegener Aug 2020

Modifications To Gravitational Wave Equation From Canonical Quantum Gravity, Andrea Dapor, Klaus Liegener

Faculty Publications

It is expected that the quantum nature of spacetime leaves its imprint in all semiclassical gravitational systems, at least in certain regimes, including gravitational waves. In this paper we investigate such imprints on gravitational waves within a specific framework: space is assumed to be discrete (in the form of a regular cubic lattice), and this discrete geometry is quantised following Dirac's canonical quantisation scheme. The semiclassical behavior is then extracted by promoting the expectation value of the Hamiltonian operator on a semiclassical state to an effective Hamiltonian. Considering a family of semiclassical states representing small tensor perturbations to Minkowski background, …

Zenithal Pedestrian Detection Using Multiple Feature Fusion In Monocular Vision, Chunhui Tang Aug 2020

Zenithal Pedestrian Detection Using Multiple Feature Fusion In Monocular Vision, Chunhui Tang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: There were extensive literatures on pedestrian detection, mostly supposed that visible humans were observed in flat view. Sometimes pedestrian detection from another perspective should be considered. The pedestrian detection with a vertical view camera was taken into account, which was usually used to count the pedestrian number. A method is put forward for zenithal pedestrian detecting based on rectangular partition features, in which the pedestrian head detection takes place of the body detection. It is by the exhaustive scanning to find targets in an image and so all the candidates are put into a series of rectangular feature …

Highly Swelling Ph-Responsive Microgels For Dual Mode Near Infra-Red Fluorescence Reporting And Imaging, Mingning Zhu, Dongdong Lu, Qing Lian, Shanglin Wu, Wenkai Wang, L. Andrew Lyon, Weiguang Wan, Paulo Bártolo, Mark Dickinson, Brian R. Saunders

Engineering Faculty Articles and Research

Near infra-red (NIR) fluorescence is a desirable property for probe particles because such deeply penetrating light enables remote reporting of the local environment in complex surroundings and imaging. Here, two NIR non-radiative energy transfer (NRET) fluorophores (Cy5 and Cy5.5) are coupled to preformed pH-responsive poly(ethylacrylate-methacrylic acid-divinylbenzene) microgel particles (PEA-MAA-5/5.5 MGs) to obtain new NIR fluorescent probes that are cytocompatible and swell strongly. NIR ratiometric photoluminescence (PL) intensity analysis enables reporting of pH-triggered PEA-MAA-5/5.5 MG particle swelling ratios over a very wide range (from 1–90). The dispersions have greatly improved colloidal stability compared to a reference temperature-responsive NIR MG based on …

For a sequence of three correlation consistent basis sets,1 an algebraic expression can be obtained from Feller's three-parameter exponential function for the complete basis set (CBS) limit of the Hartree–Fock (HF) energy.2 During the derivation of a general three-point algebraic expression for the HF CBS limit,3 it was recognized that Eq. (2) in our original paper4 had the wrong sign in the last term in the denominator. The correct equation is as follows: (Formula Presented). (Table Presented).

Evidence For A Supergalactic Structure Of Magnetic Deflection Multiplets Of Ultra-High-Energy Cosmic Rays, Rasha U. Abbasi Aug 2020

Evidence For A Supergalactic Structure Of Magnetic Deflection Multiplets Of Ultra-High-Energy Cosmic Rays, Rasha U. Abbasi

Physics: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Evidence for a large-scale supergalactic cosmic-ray multiplet (arrival directions correlated with energy) structure is reported for ultra-high-energy cosmic-ray (UHECR) energies above 1019 eV using 7 years of data from the Telescope Array (TA) surface detector and updated to 10 years. Previous energy–position correlation studies have made assumptions regarding magnetic field shapes and strength, and UHECR composition. Here the assumption tested is that, because the supergalactic plane is a fit to the average matter density of the local large-scale structure, UHECR sources and intervening extragalactic magnetic fields are correlated with this plane. This supergalactic deflection hypothesis is tested by the entire …

Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations

Since 2013, the number of publications on flipped learning within chemistry have steadily increased. However, most of these studies focus on flipped course reforms within individual institutions, while the outcomes of any learning environment are dependent on how the environment is structured and the degree to which students interact with its elements. In this study, we apply a coordinated set of assessment practices to investigate similarities among flipped chemistry courses at five institutions in the United States. All courses in the study followed the two basic tenets of flipped learning: (1) foundational information was delivered through preclass materials (PCMs), and …

Examining The Intersection Of Environmental Justice, Chronic Disease, And Pandemics; How A Mobile Health App Could Improve Health Outcomes And Inform Policy, Jessica Snow

Master's Projects and Capstones

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the intersection of environmental justice, chronic disease and illness, and pandemics. The inequitable distribution of polluting factories, landfills, and hazardous waste sites have been a long-standing concern in the field of environmental justice. Local zoning codes and land use policies have been tools for segregating people and concentrating pollution in low-income communities and communities of color. Many studies have found that pollution varies among racial and minority groups, and the burden of pollution is not one that is evenly shared. Communities of color and low income communities are disproportionately affected by air …
