Department of Educational Psychology: Faculty Publications
Much is known about the factors that make some educational psychologists highly productive. Beginning nearly 25 years ago, Kiewra and colleagues began a series of six qualitative investigations to uncover the keys to scholarly success in educational psychology. The initial study (Kiewra & Creswell, 2000) investigated Richard Anderson, Richard Mayer, and Michael Pressley, who were ranked as the top scholars in a survey of educational psychologists. The second study (Patterson- Hazley & Kiewra, 2013), more than a decade later, investigated productive scholars Patricia Alexander, Richard Mayer, Dale Schunk, and Barry Zimmerman who were ranked as the top scholars in a …

There have been several pieces of technology throughout history that have significantly affected individual lives and societies. Yet, no piece of technology has been adopted as quickly by as many people and groups as ChatGPT. ChatGPT stands for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer; it uses a deep neural network to draw information from large datasets and generate human-like text. In this activity, we are going to engage in a (very) human process of information generation to understand the use of predictive algorithms to generate text in response to a given prompt. Then, we will analyze the consequences of such technology using …

Relational Effects Of Romantic Partner’S Perceived Parasocial Romantic Attachment With Pornography, Jessica Journeay, Megan A. Vendemia, Rebecca (Riva) Tukachinsky Forster
Communication Faculty Articles and Research
An online experiment investigated heterosexual women’s responses to their romantic partners’ pornography use. Specifically, we examined how a perceived parasocial (i.e., entirely fanciful, one-sided) versus social (i.e., reciprocal) interaction with a porn actress, as well as a perceived parasocial romantic attachment to a porn actress, may pose a relational threat to one’s actual romantic relationship. Results revealed that perceptions of infidelity and jealousy were dampened by women’s belief that their romantic partner had a weak (vs. stronger) parasocial romantic attachment to and parasocial (vs. social) interaction with a porn actress. These findings advance our understanding of the effects of pornography …

Sternberg’S Transformational And Transactional Giftedness: A Dabrowskian Interpretation, Salvatore Mendaglio
Sternberg’S Transformational And Transactional Giftedness: A Dabrowskian Interpretation, Salvatore Mendaglio
SENG Journal: Exploring the Psychology of Giftedness
Sternberg’s (2020) transformational and transactional giftedness are based on a theory of leadership. Transformational leaders are highly moral, make changes that benefit members and society. They are concerned with members’ well-being and development. Transactional leaders are motivated by self-interest, concerned with members’ compliance with expectations and standards. Qualities of these forms are applied to giftedness, yielding transformational and transactional giftedness. Sternberg’s presentation and a review of leadership literature were examined from the perspective of Dabrowski’s theory of positive disintegration. It is concluded that they resonate well with Dabrowski’s theory. The current article suggests that Sternberg’s transactional and transformational giftedness resemble …

Re-Examining, Re-Empowering: The Effect Of Contextualizing Testimonial Theatre On Spect-Actors, Felicia Owusu-Ansah
Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal
To be empowered, freed from rejection, silence and trauma, one may have no choice but to speak up. But how does the silenced speak in the presence of the oppressor? At this point, theatre (of testimony) became the most useful tool to break the silence among irregular returnees in Akuma, Ghana. This qualitative study article reports on the healing and empowering effects of Testimonial Theatre on spect-actors during its use for dissemination of research findings to the researched community. It aims to show how Testimonial Theatre’s effects of compassion and empathy led to the resilience of human essence, breaking silence, …

Teatro Do Oprimido E Augusto Boal. Uma Jornada Marxista, Geo Britto
Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal
Relações Entre Teatro E Política No Trabalho Teatral De Boal No Pós-1964: A Coletivização Do Fazer Artistico Como Expressão Autoconsciente Da Produção Estética, Patricia Freitas
Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal
Relationships Between Theatre And Politics In Boal’S Post-1964 Theatrical Work: The Collectivization Of Artmaking As A Self-Conscious Expression Of Aesthetic Production, Patricia Freitas
Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal
This essay aims to bring a historical perspective to the theatrical work carried out by Augusto Boal after the establishment of the military dictatorship in Brazil in 1964. The historical trauma generated by the coup re-dimensioned the socially engaged theatrical practice in the country. In Boal's case, it created important contradictions between his theory and practice. Along these lines, this study verified that the reflection proposed by Boal on the Brazilian scene had a broader background and was embedded in a movement of cultural criticism, with the aim of creating an aesthetic and political program of action.
O Mecanismo Da Empatia No Teatro Fórum, Ali Mansouri
O Mecanismo Da Empatia No Teatro Fórum, Ali Mansouri
Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal
The Mechanism Of Empathy In Forum Theater, Ali Mansouri
The Mechanism Of Empathy In Forum Theater, Ali Mansouri
Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal
Even though the concept of “Empathy” was mentioned in the earliest texts about performance, there has always been a dispute among theatre theorists in different eras regarding its impact on the audience. Although some have considered empathy as the basis of the theatre, others viewed it as a dangerous ground that can result in inappropriate and unhealthy feelings in the audience. Recent findings of neuroscientists have revealed that empathy (with both real people and fictional characters) is inevitable for human beings, and its unconscious mechanism exists in every mentally healthy person. I believe that this inherent ability can allow us …

Usando O Teatro Aplicado Para A Cura Coletiva E O Tratamento Do Luto Na Sala De Aula, Sarah Fahmy
Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal
