This teaching activity tasks students working in groups to determine how to structure messages to increase the likelihood that those targeted with these messages would find themselves in a new cohort. Persuasion is all about the creation, solidification, and alteration of attitudes and are, according to research, the most statistically significant predictors of behavior: people are more likely to engage in behaviors if they have positively-valenced attitudes toward them. Fatphobia In Ballet: The Impact Of Organizational Practices On Body Size And Mental Health In American Ballet Companies, Ashley Chenery

In American ballet companies, female dancers’ weights factor into decisions regarding hiring, casting, and promotions. However, female dancers are now using social media to speak out against fatphobic organizational practices. This paper analyzes personal accounts of size discrimination posted to Instagram and YouTube by high-profile veteran ballerinas of New York City Ballet. It also includes interviews with professional Gen Z ballerinas (in companies spanning the US), who discuss current fatphobic practices in companies and schools. Utilizing qualitative coding, this paper seeks to disarticulate thinness from artistry and to urge mental health as a priority in American ballet.

This paper reflects on the ways that media technology infiltrate, push, and pull educators in the 21st century. The authors write about the importance of including new technology in our courses to better prepare students for their future careers and lives while also acknowledging the challenges that inclusion can present. The study entails how social media usage and parasocial relationships with social media influencers impact the audience’s purchases as a consumer. The survey covers a wide range of questions discussing the different social media platforms, how often they engage on them, and how often they click and engage with advertisements and influencers. It also covered questions that collected the participants' demographics to better understand which groups are more likely to be influenced by advertisements and influencers. We have found that younger audiences are more likely to have their consumer purchases influenced by social media advertisements and influencers than older audiences. …

This thesis comprises a rationale paper and a creative project advocating for an integrated approach to mindfulness for trauma survivors that prioritizes trauma sensitivity and body-oriented somatic practices. It is important because trauma is a pervasive social issue with profound psychophysiological impacts on survivors, and current mindfulness offerings often fail to adequately address their needs, causing confusion or possibly re-traumatization. The literature indicates somatic and mindfulness-based interventions show promise for trauma recovery; however, research is limited. The findings reveal gaps between trauma-informed care and mindfulness-based approaches due to inconsistent application of trauma-sensitive techniques, a disconnect between somatic and mindfulness-based approaches …

Youth-adult partnerships are a powerful means to nurture and amplify youths' voices and create social change. Drawing on our own framework, critical positive youth development, and our experience pilot testing the #PassTheMicYouth curriculum, we identified four promising practices to cultivate youth-adult partnerships. 4-H professionals can use these strategies with youths to prepare them to partner with community-based organizations and to maintain enduring and effective relationships.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many states issued quarantines and social isolation policies. While this impacted the well-being and mental health of everyone, it had an increased effect on the elderly population and, more specifically, those living with dementia. Social isolation has been shown to cause a quicker progression of dementia symptoms, increase anxiety and depressive symptoms, and worsen chronic health issues. This capstone thesis explored trauma narrative songwriting as a music therapy intervention for children with trauma. The literature reviewed sought to understand how music therapy helps children with trauma regulate their emotions, process heightened emotional states, practice social skills, build self-esteem, and support identity development. After reviewing the literature, the researcher noted a lack of research in using trauma narrative songwriting to foster feelings of empowerment in children. The collapse of state socialism ushered in dramatic political and economic change, producing new freedoms and opportunities, but also new challenges and disappointments. Focusing on laborers, professionals, youth, women, sexual minorities, foreign students, and emigrants, Everyday Postsocialism in Eastern Europe explores these multifaceted changes and people’s varied experiences of them. The featured narratives complicate hegemonic representations of transformation, revealing ruptures and continuities, progress and reversals. Highlighting the multi-directionality of change over the last thirty years, the book reappraises 1989 as an epochal event for all.

The Tri-Learner model of Extension Collaboration offers an innovative approach to address community needs and advance research by convening faculty from academic research, statewide Extension, and community-embedded Extension. This article describes development of a new Tri-Learner Model through an early childhood resilience project, with data from 32 participants. We present four key factors for the model’s success: First, ensure that research and application are responsive to community needs rather than University-driven. Second, establish trusting, reciprocal relationships. Third, equally value each team member’s knowledge and skills. Finally, leverage collaborative University structures and/or funding to foster reciprocal partnerships to maximize research impacts.

Application Of The Theory Of Planned Behavior To Determine Urban And Suburban Homeowners' Fertilizer Management Practices, Natalie Levy, Michael Burnett

A fundamental strategy for reducing nutrient runoff from lawns and landscapes is the implementation of recommended fertilizer management practices (FMPs). Our study evaluated Louisiana urban and suburban homeowners’ current FMPs using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) constructs. We measured homeowners’ attitude, perceived norm, perceived control, intention, and past behavior regarding 12 salient FMPs. The results of our study identified which recommended FMPs to adopt and which non-recommended practices to change. To effectively modify homeowners’ FMPs, we recommended designing tailored Extension educational programming to target the TPB constructs most strongly related to homeowners’ decision to perform these practices.

هدفت الدراسة التعرف إلى تأثير استخدام تمرينات (read & react) على دقة أداء مهارة حائط الصد في الكرة الطائرة. تم استخدام المنهج التجريبي على عينة من (24) لاعبا من لاعبي الكرة الطائرة في جامعة اليرموك، تم اختيارهم بالطريقة العمدية، وتم تقسيمهم لمجموعتين متكافئتين. تم تطبيق البرنامج التدريبي لكلا المجموعتين الضابطة والتجريبية لمدة ثمانية أسابيع، وبمعدل ثلاثة لقاءات أسبوعيًا، وتم جمع البيانات من خلال ثلاثة اختبارات، اختبارين لقياس سرعة الاستجابة الحركية للاعبين باستخدام جهاز Dynavision D2، بينما تم قياس دقة أداء مهارة حائط الصد في الاختبار الثالث. وتم تحليل البيانات باستخدام المتوسطات الحسابية والانحرافات المعيارية والتكرار ودرجات الحرية، و(test–Re-test)، وPaired Samples …

هدف المقال إلى إلقاء الضوء على ملامح وآثار العولمة الاجتماعية في الوطن العربي، وذلك بالتعريف بمفهوم العولمة الاجتماعية، واستعراض أهم أدواتها المتمثلة بالإعلام والمنظمات الدولية، إذ وضحت أهم الآثار التي خلفتها العولمة الاجتماعية على الوطن العربي في مجال الأسرة والمرأة والتعليم وغيرها، كما استعرضت الدراسة مؤشرات العولمة الاجتماعية وفقاً لمؤشر كوف KOF. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى عدد من النتائج، أهمها أن العولمة الاجتماعية أذابت الحدود بين الدول ومكنت من انتقال الأفكار والعادات من مجتمع إلى آخر، كما أنها أسهمت في تعزيز هيمنة الدول الغربية على الدول العربية، مما غيّر من منظومة القيم والعادات التي ميزت المجتمعات والأسرة العربية. وعليه قدمت مجموعة …

هدفت الدراسة إلى بيان انعكاس العوامل السياسية في تشكيل الاتجاهات السياسية لدى المواطنين نحو الهوية الوطنية الأردنية، واعتمدت الدراسة على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، والمنهج الإحصائي التحليلي في تحليل وتفسير أجوبة الأقسام الثلاثة للاستبانة، وزعت الاستبانة إلكترونياً واستخدمت طريقة العينة العشوائية البسيطة للوصول إلى الأفراد الذين لا تقل أعمارهم عن (18) سنة، حيث اشتملت الدراسة على عينة مكونة من (500) مبحوث. وخلصت الدراسة إلى وجود اتجاه سياسي سلبي لدى المواطن نحو الهوية الوطنية الأردنية ضمن إطار تأثير العوامل السياسية. حيث العوامل السياسة الخارجية هي الأكثر تأثيراً على الاتجاهات السياسية لدى المواطن نحو الهوية الوطنية الأردنية، ثم جاء انعكاس السياسية الأردنية الخارجية …

Researchers have explored neurodiversity in terms of gender, gender identity and expression, masking, and more, yet the focus is often on neurodiversity as synonymous with autism. There remains a challenge to expand the body of neurodiversity research that is broader than autism.
