Google-Truthing To Assess Hot Spots Of Food Retail Change: A Repeat Cross-Sectional Street View Of Food Environments In The Bronx, New York, Nevin Cohen, Michael Chrobok, Olivia Caruso

Google Street View (GSV) images can be used to “ground-truth” current and historical food retail data from approximately 2007 - when GSV was launched in a few US cities - to the present, facilitating analyses of food environments over time. A review of GSV images of all food retailers listed in a government database of licensed establishments in the Bronx, New York enabled records to be verified, businesses classified, and retail change quantified. The data revealed several trends likely to affect food access and health: increasing overall numbers of food retailers; the growth of dollar stores; and numerous openings, closings, …

Preparing for this demographic shift invites reflection about the extent to which features of the community and characteristics of municipal services meet older residents’ needs and interests, and making plans to improve alignment where appropriate. Executive Summary

This report presents acoustical data gathered by Student Conservation Association interns and the Natural Resource Specialist at Homestead National Monument of America in 2017. Data were collected at one site to provide park managers with information about the acoustical environment, sources of noise, and the existing ambient sound levels within the monument. This deployment also captured acoustic conditions during the total solar eclipse on 8/21/2017. (Results of the eclipse monitoring effort are provided in Appendix B.)

In collaboration with the National Park Service, the University of Wyoming Ruckelshaus Institute of Environment and Natural Resources and the Wyoming Natural Diversity Database completed the Natural Resource Condition Assessment (NRCA) for Agate Fossil Beds National Monument (NM). The purpose of the NRCA is to provide park leaders and resource managers with information on resource conditions to support near-term planning and management, long-term strategic planning, and effective science communication to decision-makers and the public.

Downstream gas development has the potential to provide significant economic value if West Virginia can capture this development within its borders. In this report, we explore the potential impact of downstream natural gas industries on the West Virginia economy. To estimate the economic impact of downstream natural gas development, we take a two-pronged approach. First, we identify those industries nationally that require large amounts of natural gas in their production process. This landscaping review summarizes available evidence (as of 2020) on the effectiveness of provider behavior change interventions for improving family planning services in Ouagadougou Partnership countries and presents current or recent provider behavior change interventions not formally evaluated. The findings are summarized along with reflections about possible research and programming investments to address challenges and opportunities.

Who participates in multilateral disarmament meetings? Building on recent studies, this report investigates patterns of participation in disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control forums. In addition to overall levels of participation, we look at two indicators in particular – the gender balance of meeting delegations and the development status of the states these diplomats represent. We also examine the link between those two indicators: to what extent gender balance of diplomatic forums is associated with the socioeconomic composition of the group.

On balance, our overall read of the latest multiyear Big5 survey results implies the following economy-at-risk scale (least to most): India, US, Euro Area, Japan and China (i.e., India’s economy might be least at-risk, while China is deemed to be most at-risk). Broadly, survey participants expect the risk assessment to GDP growth to be skewed to the downside in 2020 followed by a more balanced backdrop in 2021. But participants seem to be more divided, with most responses favoring “downside” or/and “balanced” risks, on the 2022 growth environment. CARE Conference: Vulnerable Children and Viable Communities

South Africa has a long and rich cultural history and this history has impacted domestic adoption in a myriad of ways. These cultural factors include ancestral beliefs, infertility, family structure, and apartheid, and they all affect adoption policies and how the public perceives adoption. Unfortunately, these factors usually result in negative results for children in kinship care or children waiting to be adopted. Kinship care is the informal, non-governmentally regulated practice of relatives caring for children. South Africa’s cultural factors of ancestral beliefs, infertility, family structure, apartheid, and the AIDS crisis all impact domestic adoption.

Children with traumatic brain injury (TBI) are under-identified and under-served by healthcare and educational professionals. Factors such as lack of understanding regarding long-term needs following TBI, limited awareness and training in emerging evidence-based practices and inefficient care coordination (Haarbauer-Krupa et al., 2017) impede effective clinical management. Despite these considerable challenges, childhood brain injury is treatable. Families, schools, and healthcare systems are integral to that treatment. Where a child lives and learns can also greatly influence long-term outcomes. Children from home environments with supportive caregivers have more positive outcomes (Wade et al., 2016). Traditional economics is based on the simplifying assumption that people behave perfectly rationally, that before making any decision, a person thoroughly analyzes all possible situations. In reality, we often do not have enough time to thoroughly analyze all the available information, as a result of which we make decisions of bounded rationality -- bounded by our inability to perform a thorough analysis of the situation.
