In the wake of debates between actors in the Zimbabwean higher education sector about the effectiveness of e-learning models, it is important to investigate the effectiveness of using blended learning at a time when infrastructure challenges are disrupting ICT access. This paper aims to address this quest for a deeper understanding by investigating students' perceptions of blended learning at a selected Zimbabwean university. Twelve in-depth interviews were conducted with students from a Zimbabwean university that employs blended learning under an interpretivist paradigm. Factors Influencing User Adherence Towards Privacy Standards Of Internet Of Things Devices, Philip Bazanye, Walter Uys, Wallace Chigona

The upsurge in the use of Internet of things (IoT) devices increases the likelihood of cyber-attacks on end users. The objective of the study reported here was to investigate the factors that influence IoT device users’ adherence to privacy standards. This interpretivist exploratory research was guided by a three-phased approach using activity theory. The interview questions were derived from the conceptual model and themes analysed using deductive thematic analysis. The findings indicate that a lack of adherence is driven by a lack of trust in IoT devices and service providers, as well as convenience and health factors. In addition, users’ …

Nutrient coupling describes a process where the biogeochemical cycles of two elements are linked by being incorporated similarly into biomass. This paper uses data from the GEOTRACES GP16 cruise (Eastern Pacific Zonal Transect) to investigate the relationship between certain macronutrients generally coupled to trace elements in terms of their oceanic distributions with the notable exception of in an oxygen minimum zone: cadmium-phosphate and zinc-silicate. There are many methods applied to oceanographic data to correlate analyte concentrations; while they are often presented independently in literature, here we attempt to use them in conjunction for a more thorough interpretation. This interpretive research study seeks to identify and understand the dynamics of privacy within the content creator culture. African countries have persistently ranked poorly in the United Nations E-Government Development index (EGDI). This study therefore sought to make sense of the nature and form of digital transformation (DX) in African governments. It used a bibliometric analysis and a critical realist lens to explore some of the underlying structures and generative mechanisms that influence DX. The key findings from 606 scholarly publications over the three decades of DX research reveals marked sharp contrasts, with South Africa dominating the research on DX, an underrepresentation of DX research from most African nations, and some influence from non-African nations, particularly the United …

Paleokarst Coastal Caves At Torricelle Hills (Lessini Mountains, Venetian Prealps, Italy), Guido Gonzato, Enrico Borghi, Roberto Chignola, Nereo Preto, Guido Rossi
International Journal of Speleology
This paper describes a set of paleokarst caves at Torricelle Hills near Verona (Southern Alps, Italy.) At this locality, erosional surfaces and paleokarst cavities show that sedimentation of late Paleogene neritic limestones was interrupted by subaerial exposure. Karst features developed during a phase of marine regression that started after the early Oligocene and ended in the mid Miocene. These caves were originally completely filled by iron oxides- and hydrated oxides-rich paleosol sediments (ochre) that, for centuries, have been mined for pigments. Mining activity emptied the caves, leaving the voids and related shapes mostly intact; as a result, the original morphologies …

Compound extreme events can potentially cause deadlier socio-economic consequences. Although several studies focused on individual extreme climate events, the occurrence of compound extreme events is still not well studied in the upper Midwestern United States. In this study, compound extreme precipitation preceded by extreme hot day events was investigated. Results showed a strong linkage between extreme precipitation events and extreme hot days. A significant increasing trend was noticed mainly in Iowa (10.1%), northern parts of Illinois (5.04%), and Michigan (5.04%). Results also showed a higher intensity of extreme precipitation events preceded by an extremely hot day compared to the intensity …

The potential for chlorinated water to cause chlorate contamination of milk was evaluated at both laboratory and field level. It was found that for such contamination to occur, direct contact of water and milk was necessary. To minimise the opportunity for chlorinated water to cause chlorate contamination of milk, it is vital to ensure that milk handling equipment is engineered to provide for proper drainage of water and that all necessary steps are taken to prevent the adulteration of milk with water.

In three-dimensional domain a problem of identification of recourses for Benney-Luke type partial differential equation of the even order with integral form conditions, spectral parameter and small positive parameters in mixed derivatives is considered. The solution of this partial differential equation is studied in the class of regular functions. The Fourier series method is used. Using this Fourier method, is obtained a countable system of ordinary differential equations. So, the nonlocal boundary value problem is integrated as an ordinary differential equation. A method based on the Taylor formula for the approximate solution of the Cauchy problem for the ordinary differential equation is studied. The problem of estimating the accuracy of the approximate solution generated by this method is considered, and an estimate of high accuracy is obtained for the difference of the exact and approximate solution. Here, different from the known values, an exact expression for the estimation coefficient is found.

We study a linear evasion differential game of two pursuers and one evader. We impose geometric constraints on the control parameters of players. The control sets of pursuers are unit balls, and that of evader is the ball of radius σ,σ>1. Evasion is said to be possible if the state of the evader doesn't coincide with the state of any pursuer for all time. We construct an evasion strategy for the evader that guarantees the evasion from any initial positions of players. Also, we introduce the concept of approach times. In this paper, we define a new capacity Δm on the class of shm functions, which is defined by Laplace operator. We prove that Δm-capacity satisfies Choquet’s axioms of measurability. Moreover, we compare our capacity with Sadullaev-Abdullaev capacities. In particular, it implies that Δm-capacity of a set E is zero if and only if E is a m-polar set.

In this paper, we shall discuss the construction of Gibbs measures for models with uncountable set of spin values on Cayley trees. It is known that "translation-invariant Gibbs measures" of the model with an uncountable set of spin values can be described by positive fixed points of a nonlinear integral operator of Hammerstein type. The problem of constructing a kernel with non-uniqueness of the integral operator is sufficient in Gibbs measure theory. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are fast becoming the most common chronic liver disease and are often preventable with healthy dietary habits and weight management. Sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption is associated with obesity and NAFLD. However, the impact of different types of SSBs, including artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs), is not clear after controlling for total sugar intake and total caloric intake. This report summarizes an updated inventory of glaciers and perennial snowfields of the conterminous United States. The inventory is based on interpretation of mostly aerial imagery provided by the National Agricultural Imagery Program, US Department of Agriculture, with some satellite imagery in places where aerial imagery was not suitable. Porous organic materials with designable structures, large surface areas, low densities, and unique electronic and optical properties have found widespread applications in adsorption, separation, energy storage, and catalysis. However, the majority of organic porous materials are synthesized as fluffy powders, which poses two fundamental challenges for them. Our understanding of the spatial-temporal-compositional relationships between off-axis magmatism and mid-ocean ridge spreading centers is limited. Determining the 40Ar/39Ar ages of mid-ocean ridge basalt (MORB) lavas erupting near mid-ocean ridges (MOR) has been a challenge due to the characteristically low K2O contents in incompatible element-depleted normal MORB (NMORB).
