A portable component model (PCM) of a ground source heat pump system was developed and used as a test case in the creating of a PCM development framework. By developing this framework, new building energy simulation models will be able to be easily integrated into existing simulation software such as EnergyPlus and the Modelica Buildings Library. Our model uses a time responsive g-function and numerical methods to simulate ground source heat pumps for single time steps as well as long time scales. We validated our model against GHESim and GLHEPro and found that our model agrees with these two standards …

In June 2022, the LUX-ZEPLIN collaboration released its first results, with the
most precise measurements of any direct dark matter detector. The findings were
calculated using the expected spin-independent WIMP-nucleon interaction model,
which would result in small energies deposited in the detector. Therefore, the
background of non-dark interactions was calculated for events with S1 areas up to
80 phd (Aalbers et al. 2022). In order to increase the sensitivity to high energy
WIMP-nucleon interaction events, as predicted by other models, we extended the
non-dark NR background to events with S1 areas of up to 600 phd. We found a

The Isotopic Scaling model(West & Heger, 2013) provides a complete average isotopic decomposition for our Milky Way as a function of metallicity and it requires an initial Solar Abundance Decomposition as a starting point. The previous Solar Abundance decomposition work is not perfect(West & Heger, 2013), since Classical Novae abundances are ignored. My research intends to improve the current solar abundance decomposition by adding Classical Novae Abundance contribution, then to update the Isotopic Scaling model.

Effectiveness Of Different Materials As Catalysts For Alkaline Water Electrolysis, Lance T. Bartol, James Doyle

We tested the catalytic properties of various nickel and molybdenum electrodes as potential replacements for platinum for usage in alkaline water electrolysis. After initial tests found molybdenum-based electrodes to be significantly more effective than nickel electrodes, we moved to calculate overpotentials. We found nickel electrode overpotentials at ± 10 mA current to be 939 and -960 mV. Conversely, molybdenum electrode overpotentials at the same currents were 244 and -681 mV respectively. While still significantly higher than overpotentials for platinum, these results indicate that, with more testing, molybdenum-based electrodes could eventually emerge as a cheaper, more abundant alternative to platinum electrodes.

In this work, we consider a boundary value problem for a q-Dirac equation. We prove orthogonality of the eigenfunctions, realness of the eigenvalues, and we study asymptotic formulas of the eigenfunctions. We show that the eigenfunctions form a complete system, we obtain the expansion formula with respect to the eigenfunctions, and we derive Parseval's equality. We construct the Weyl solution and the Weyl function. We prove a uniqueness theorem for the solution of the inverse problem with respect to the Weyl function.

Each year more than 3000 Canadians are diagnosed with brain cancers like glioblastoma multiforme or recurrent head and neck cancers, which are difficult to treat with conventional radiotherapy techniques. One of the most clinically promising treatments for these cancers is boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). This procedure involves selectively introducing a boron delivery agent into tumor cells and irradiating them with a neutron beam, which kills the cancer cells due to the high-linear energy transfer radiation produced by the 10B(n,α)7Li capture reaction. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are well-known for their recalcitrant properties and biotoxicity in organisms, leading to serious environmental and health problems. Despite various analytical methods available, accurate determination of the bioavailable fraction is warranted in order to evaluate the precise toxic potentials of these compounds. Currently, the passive sampler is used worldwide to measure the bioavailable PAHs in the environment using the equilibrium partitioning principle. Water vapor supersaturation in clouds is a random variable that drives activation and growth of cloud droplets. The Pi Convection-Cloud Chamber generates a turbulent cloud with a microphysical steady-state that can be varied from clean to polluted by adjusting the aerosol injection rate. The supersaturation distribution and its moments, e.g., mean and variance, are investigated for varying cloud microphysical conditions. High-speed and co-located Eulerian measurements of temperature and water vapor concentration are combined to obtain the temporally resolved supersaturation distribution. Previous research has adapted the use of economic production functions to estimate the scoring production of teams in professional sports. Most of these studies have focused on professional male team sports, most notably, US baseball, basketball, and association football. This study adds to the literature by utilizing a new and distinctive data set of shooting statistics from 88 men’s and 38 women’s NCAA water polo contests to estimate production functions for United States’ collegiate water polo games and identify the most important variables for predicting margin of victory in such competitions. Intuitively, interval-values fuzzy degrees are more adequate for representing expert uncertainty than the traditional [0,1]-based ones. Indeed, the very need for fuzzy degrees comes from the fact that experts often cannot describe their opinion not in terms of precise numbers, but by using imprecise ("fuzzy") words from natural language like "small". One of the most effective ways to help patients at the dangerous levels of diabetes is an artificial pancreas, a device that constantly monitors the patient's blood sugar level and injects insulin based on this level. Patient's reaction to insulin is highly individualized, so the artificial pancreas needs to be trained on each patient. It turns out that the best training results are attained when instead of the usual ReLU neurons, we use their minor modification known as Exponential Linear Units (ELU). In this paper, we provide a theoretical explanation for the empirically observed effectiveness of ELUs.

In many practical situations, practitioners use easier-to-compute fuzzy control to approximate the more-difficult-co-compute optimal control. As expected, for many characteristics, this approximate control is slightly worse than the optimal control it approximates, However, with respect to robustness or smoothness, the approximating fuzzy control is often better than the original one. In this paper, we provide a theoretical explanation for this somewhat mysterious empirical phenomenon.

This paper examines whether firms adjust their strategy in emission when air pollution is severe. Considering high PM 2.5 as severe air pollution across 65 countries, I show that firms from countries with severe air pollution have low emission score, suggesting that they put less effort in reducing emission. This is because if they improve emission strategy, firm performance deteriorates. However, such relationship disappears when the government’s environmental stringency is strong, suggesting that government’s intervention is crucial for sustainable environment. A classical theorem independently due to Gallai and Roy states that a graph G has a proper k-coloring if and only if G has an orientation without coherent paths of length k. An analogue of this result for signed graphs is proved in this article.

Accreting protoplanets are windows into planet formation processes, and high-contrast differential imaging is an effective way to identify them. We report results from the Giant Accreting Protoplanet Survey (GAPlanetS), which collected Hα differential imagery of 14 transitional disk host stars with the Magellan Adaptive Optics System. To address the twin challenges of morphological complexity and point-spread function instability, GAPlanetS required novel approaches for frame selection and optimization of the Karhounen-Loéve Image Processing algorithm pyKLIP. Climate change is a global phenomenon. Therefore, globalization is the necessary hermeneutical horizon to develop an analysis of the metamorphosis climate change could cause at a political, social, and economic level. Within this horizon, this Article shows how the relationship between the concept of the Anthropocene epoch and the request for justice allows for framing a climate-justice and intergenerational equity–focused political interpretation of the effects of climate change. In the United States, this would require a dramatic phaseout of oil and gas extraction nationwide over the coming decades. How could we accomplish this? In this research, exponential approximation is used to solve a class of nonlinear Emden-Fowler equations. This method is based on the matrix forms of exponential functions and their derivatives using collocation points. To demonstrate the usefulness of the method, we apply it to some different problems. The numerical approximate solutions are compared with available (existing) exact (analytical) solutions to show the accuracy of the proposed method. The method has been checked with several examples to show its validity and reliability. The reported examples illustrate that the method is reasonably efficient and accurate.

We also investigate some of their properties in N-neutrosophic crisp gamma continuous function via N-neutrosophic crisp topological spaces. Further, a contra part of continuity called N-neutrosophic crisp gamma-contra continuous map in a N-neutrosophic crisp topology is also initiated. In this paper, some geometric properties of equiform Smarandache ruled surfaces in Minkowski space E13 using an equiform frame are investigated. Also, we give the sufficient conditions that make these surfaces are equiform developable and equiform minimal related to the equiform curvatures and when the equiform base curve contained in a plane or general helix. Finally, we provide an example, such as these surfaces.

This research aims to study atmospheric internal waves which occur within the fluid rather than on the surface. The mathematical model of the shallow fluid hypothesis leads to a coupled nonlinear system of partial differential equations. In the shallow flow model, the primary assumption is that vertical size is smaller than horizontal size. This model can precisely replicate atmospheric internal waves because waves are dispersed over a vast horizontal area. A semi-analytical approach, namely modified differential transform, is applied successfully in this research. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) is the most widely used decision-making method to solve many complex problems. However, classical MCDM approaches tend to make decisions when the parameters are imprecise or uncertain. The concept of a complex fuzzy set is new in the field of fuzzy set theory. It is a set that can collect and interpret the membership grades from the unit circle in a plane instead of the interval [0,1].
