Mathematical Musings On The External Anatomy Of The Novel Coronavirus. Part 3: Spherical Triangles, Jyotirmoy Sarkar, Mamunur Rashid

Mathematics Faculty Publications

What is the shape of the novel coronavirus (n-CoV) which has turned our world upside down? Even though under a microscope, it looks dull, unattractive, and even disgusting, creative artists have attributed to it bright colors, made it look pretty, and depicted it as a thing of beauty. What can a mathematician contribute to this effort? We take a purist’s point of view by imposing on it a quasi-symmetry and then deriving some consequences. In an idealistic world, far removed from reality but still constrained by the rules of mathematics, anyone can enjoy this ethereal beauty of the mind’s creation, …

The proposed strategy combines autoencoder-based embedding of small molecules with a cluster-based perturbation approach for efficient navigation of the latent space and a feature-based kinase inhibition likelihood classifier that guides optimization of the molecular properties and targeted molecular design. In the proposed generative approach, molecules sharing similar structures tend to cluster in the latent space, and interpolating between two molecules in the latent space …

Dynamic Return Relationships In The Market For Cryptocurrency: A Var Approach, Julian Gouffray Sep 2022

Dynamic Return Relationships In The Market For Cryptocurrency: A Var Approach, Julian Gouffray

James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal (JMURJ)

This paper examines how the Bitcoin-altcoin return relationship has evolved in periods between 2015 and 2020. To understand this relation, we observe data on the cryptocurrency Bitcoin and prominent altcoins Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Stellar, and Monero, which collectively represent over 90% of the market throughout the observed period. We employ a vector autoregressive model (VAR) to produce forecast error variance decompositions, orthogonal impulse response functions, and Granger-causality tests. We find evidence that Bitcoin return variation has increasingly explained altcoin returns and that market inefficiency increased between 2017 and 2020, as shown by increased Granger causality between Bitcoin and altcoins. These …

Extracting Microservice Dependencies Using Log Analysis, Andres O. Rodriguez Ishida

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Microservice architecture is an architectural style that supports the design and implementation of very scalable systems by distributing complex functionality to highly granular components. These highly granular components are referred to as microservices and can be dynamically deployed on Docker containers. These microservice architecture systems are very extensible since new microservices can be added or replaced as the system evolves. In such highly granular architectures, a major challenge that arises is how to quickly identify whether any changes in the system’s structure violate any policies or design constraints. Examples of policies and design constraints include whether a microservice can call …
