Existence And Continuous Dependence For A Class Of Nonlinear Neutraldifferential Equations, L. J. Grimm
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works
This paper presents existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence theorems for solutions of initial-value problems for neutral-differential equations of the form (equation omited), where f, g, and h are continuous functions with g(0, x0)=h(0, x0) = 0. The existence of a continuous solution of the functional equation z(t) =f(t, z(h(t))) is proved as a corollary. © 1971 American Mathematical Society.

A Variable Coeficient Of Restitution Experiment On A Linear Air Track, R. Gruebel, James C. Dennis, L. Choate
Faculty Publications
A system consisting of two pendula attached to an air cart is mathematically analyzed, and the coefficient of restitution is shown to pass through a deep minimum. The solution to the small angle equation of motion is transcendental and provides an exercise in graphical methods for the beginning mechanics student.
Small Momentum Transfer Structure Factor Of Quantum Liquids, Robert Hallock
Small Momentum Transfer Structure Factor Of Quantum Liquids, Robert Hallock
Robert Hallock
The liquid structure factor of 3He has been determined in the momentum-transfer range 0.2 to 1.0 Å-1. At temperatures near 0.4 K there is evidence for a gentle change of slope of the structure factor in the region near 0.35 Å-1 Comparison with the work on helium-4 suggests that the observed behavior is a general feature of the two fluids.

The basic problem to which this paper is directed is that of characterization of the acoustic field perceived by an observer and due to a loudspeaker situation in a room. Before immediately jumping into an apparent solution and presenting the results of a set of measurements it is essential to present the considerations leading to that measurment...First, there are at least two ways of characterizing the same acoustic signal if we restrict our attention to a well defined set of parameters...Secondly, since both characterizations define the same thing it must be possible to translate information without loss from one domain …

Substituted ℓ-Dialkylaminomethyl-3-Phenyl-1-Naphthalenemethanols, Richard Elroy Davis
Substituted ℓ-Dialkylaminomethyl-3-Phenyl-1-Naphthalenemethanols, Richard Elroy Davis
Master's Theses
Malaria is still a world health problem. Established antimalarial drugs have become ineffective in many areas because of the emergence of resistant strains of malaria. New efforts have been initiated to study variations of new untried compounds and earlier structures shown to have activity. The 4-quinolinemethanols fall into the latter class. The great activity of the 4-quinolinemethanols is offset by their phytotoxic activity.
The possibility that substituted o(-dialkylaminomethyl-3-phenyl-1- naphthalenemethanols, as analogs of the 4-quinolinemethanols, would be effective antimalarials, yet not have the phototoxic side effect, is discussed in this paper. Synthetic pathways to the naphthalenemhethanols are discussed. Experimental procedures are …
Patterns Of Lakeshore Usage Around Lake Bemidji, Charles S. Holt, Roger A. Schulz, Curtis M. Hadland
Patterns Of Lakeshore Usage Around Lake Bemidji, Charles S. Holt, Roger A. Schulz, Curtis M. Hadland
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
ABSTRACT - The eutrophication of lakes has been the subject of much discussion in scientific journals and the popular press .. Usually the e.utrophication process is accelerated by human activities. This study evaluates the extent of lakeshore development and recreational use of Lake Bemidji in north central Minnesota and examines the willingness of lakeshore residents to be assessed for corrective measures to halt deterioration of this valuable recreational lake. The shoreline of Lake Bemidji is highly developed, and the high density human habitation represents a potential source of nutrients from percolation through the sand and gravel soils which surround the …
A Bayes Rule For The Symmetric Multiple Comparisons Problem, Aban Nawabi
A Bayes Rule For The Symmetric Multiple Comparisons Problem, Aban Nawabi
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Many procedures have been proposed for the symmetric multiple comparisons problem in recent years. These include a "protected" least significant difference procedure due to Fisher (FSD), a multiple range rule by Duncan, and HSD (honest significant difference) procedure by Tukey, and a procedure for testing all contrasts by Scheffe.
The tests which are mentioned above are either comparison-wise or experiment-wise approaches. The probability of Type I error is intended to be a for all comparisons made when an experiment-wise approach is used. Whereas, the probability of Type I error referred to each comparison is a comparison-wise approach. Both approaches can …
A Non-Parametric Sequential Signed-Rank Test And Comparison With The Sequential T-Test, Kuei-Mei Even Sher
A Non-Parametric Sequential Signed-Rank Test And Comparison With The Sequential T-Test, Kuei-Mei Even Sher
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Sequential analysis is a method of statistical inference whose characteristic feature is that the number of observations required by the procedure is not determined in advance of the experiment. The decision to terminate the experiment depends, at each stage, on the results of the observations previously made.
So far the general sequential t-test (without truncation) is a standard test for the mean of a normal distribution. A truncated sequential t-test has been developed by Suich and Iglewicz (1970). The difference between these two tests is that the former has a fixed critical value whenever the type I error (α) and …

Some (1, -1) Matrices, Jennifer Seberry
Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)
We define an n-type (1, -1) matrix N = 1 + R of order n ~ 2 (mod 4) to have R symmetric and R2 = (n - 1)/n. These matrices are analogous to skewtype matrices M = 1 + W which have W skew-symmetric.
Amicable Hadamard Matrices, Jennifer Seberry
Amicable Hadamard Matrices, Jennifer Seberry
Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)
If X is a symmetric Hadamard matrix, Y is a skew-Hadamard matrix, and XYT is symmetric, then X and Y are said to be amicable Hadamard matrices. A construction for amicable Hadamard matrices is given, and then amicable Hadamard matrices are used to generalize a construction for skew-Hadamard matrices.

Integer Matrices Obeying Generalized Incidence Equations, Jennifer Seberry
Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)
We consider integer matrices obeying certain generalizations of the incidence equations for (v, k, lambda)-configurations and show that given certain other constraints, a constant multiple of the incidence matrix of a (v, k, lambda)-configuration may be identified as the solution of the equation.

Special Collections Archived Publications
Humboldt Bay is a coastal lagoon, 14 mi. long and a maximum of 4 mi. wide. The bay has three distinct segments, South, Entrance, and Arcata Bays, each of which occupies the seaward end of one or more stream valleys cut into Plio- Pleistocene paralic sediments. The segments are linked by narrow tidal channels which are bounded by a barrier spit on the west and by high valley interfluves on the east. Climate of the area is rainy temperate . Tides are of the mixed type with a mean range of 6.5 ft.

Geophysical And Geological Analysis Of A Fault-Like Linearity In The Lower Clackamas River Area, Clackamas County, Oregon, Ronald Jay Schmela
Dissertations and Theses
A fault-like linearity along the lower Clackamas River is evaluated by analysis of physiographic and structural alignments, geological relationships, and by gravity and magnetic data. The study has resulted in the verification of a structural feature extending along the Clackamas River and the eastern front of the Portland Hills. Physiographic alignments were examined in twelve 15 minute and two 7-1/2 minute quadrangle maps. A significant northeasterly morphologic trend, N. 20⁰ W. and N. 40° W., and other secondary trends, namely, the N-S, E-W, and N. 50-60° E., has developed in the Portland area. The consistent northwest trend is observed throughout …
