Multi-Floor Evacuation Model Based On Wavelet Neural Network, Juan Wei, Lei You, Yangyong Guo, Zhihai Tang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Crowd evacuation in a multi-floor environment is a popular social concern, while the stagnation phenomenon easily occurs when simulating a multi-floor complex environment with the traditional social force model. Therefore, An improved social force model is proposed by a wavelet neural network, and a new multi-floor evacuation model is built. In the model, a pedestrian's direction of movement is obtained by the field model, which is used as the self-driving direction of the social force model. Meanwhile, the evaluation indexes of the exit congestion degree, path congestion degree, and average velocity in a multi-floor environment are given, and a …

Monocular Semantic Slam Method Based On Object Relation Description, Shiqi Lin, Jikai Wang, Haoyuan Pei, Hao Zhao, Zonghai Chen

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Semantic information perception of the external environment and accurate positioning are the keys to autonomous navigation and operation of mobile robots. This paper proposes a method of semantic simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) based on a monocular camera. The system completes three-dimensional (3D) object detection while estimating the trajectory. We model the 3D objects with cuboids. Then, the semantic meanings, color distribution, size and neighborhood topology of the objects are extracted as descriptors for the accurate matching of objects between different frames. The camera pose, map points and object landmarks are optimized jointly in the backend of the system. …

Research On Collaborative Computing Offloading Model For Base Station Groups Based On Fireworks Algorithm, Bin Xu, Wenqing Yan, Zhuofan Han, Guangshen He, Tao Deng, Yunkai Zhao, Jin Qi

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Internet of Vehicles (IoV), AR, AI, and other computing-intensive, time-delay-sensitive applications are developing rapidly. However, due to the relatively insufficient computing capacity of mobile devices, such application tasks face serious latency, which seriously affects user experience and even fails to meet the needs of users. To solve this problem, by comprehensively considering delays and costs, we propose a cooperative computing offloading model based on a multi-user and multi-mobile edge computing (multi-MEC) server for base station groups. In addition, an improved fireworks algorithm based on convex optimization (CVX-FWA) is presented to solve the model and perform reasonable offloading and resource …

Segmentation Line Detection In Dental Model Based On Target Region Constraint, Tian Ma, Yun Li, Jiaojiao Li, Yuancheng Li

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: It is an important pretreatment of a virtual orthodontic system to accurately segment teeth from a dental model. In the present methods, all patches are computed directly. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a segmentation line detection method based on target region constraint, which narrows down the detection range to the area around the actual segmentation line. In this method, the cutting plane and the cutting line are automatically formed according to the positions of seed points. The detection range is determined by the search for the position with the greatest negative curvature on the cutting line. The …

Abstract: A robust optimal synchronization control method based on coupling dynamics model of the H-type motion platform is proposed for the problem that the H-type motion platform driven directly by permanent magnet linear synchronous motor has uncertainties such as biaxial coupling, parameter perturbation and external disturbances, which affect the synchronization control accuracy and robustness of the system. A biaxial coupling dynamics model is established based on Euler-Lagrange equation. The cross coupling synchronization controller is designed to effectively combine the single-axis tracking error with the biaxial synchronization error and its rate of change. TheH∞robust optimal synchronous controller …

Lod Modeling Method For Three-Dimensional Objects With Energy Operator, Yongzhi Wang, Zhenchao Li, Pengyu Liu, Hui Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Current level of detail (LOD) modeling methods do not combine simplification and subdivision, which results in models not being rich in detail level. Therefore, the energy operator was used to combine the simplification algorithm of a three-dimensional (3D) object model with the subdivision algorithm, and a LOD modeling method based on an energy operator was proposed for 3D objects. The method involves three major steps: calculation of energy operators for 3D models, model simplification and model subdivision based on an energy operator. Experiments show that this method can generate models with rich levels of detail and has good visualization …

Research On Semantic Segmentation Of Natural Landform Based On Edge Detection Module, Qizong Shen, Chunyan Gao

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To classify pixels of natural landform edges in remote sensing images, this paper proposes a multi-channel fusion model and a decoder-side module model both integrating an edge detection module. The edge detection module takes the Canny operator as the base to perform closed operations and mean filtering, as a result of which accurate image edges can be achieved. Based on DeepLabV3+, the semantic segmentation network is connected with an edge planning module in parallel at encoder and decoder sides respectively. The experimental results show that the two improved networks can achieve a better segmentation effect on a high-resolution natural …

Research On Nonlinear Evaluation Method Of Situational Hot Spots, Tengjiao Mao, Dongge Zhang, Xuefeng Liang, Yanjie Niu, Minggang Yu, Ming He

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The excessive amount of data and information in the situation map is likely to produce a huge cognitive load that exceeds the physiological limit. This can lead to delays in the perception, judgment, and decision-making of the commander, or even failure of decision-making activities in severe cases. For this reason, situation information needs to be processed to assess and highlight situational hotspots so that cognitive overload can be tackled. Based on the aggregation factors of collaborative targets, this paper takes the effective impact possibility of situational targets and the collaboration as the indicators, derives the attention function, and designs …

Zoomfft-Based Demodulation Algorithm For Underwater Acoustic Ofdm Signals, Qing Guo, Angdi Li, Jing Wu, Haitao Su

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The picket fence effect of fast Fourier transform (FFT) restricts the demodulation performance of the underwater acoustic(UWA) communication systemusing orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). To solve this problem, we propose a demodulation algorithm based on ZoomFFT. Specifically, the received signal is processed by frequency shifting and downsampling forarefined spectrum, which improves the spectralresolution and weakens the picketfence effect.Meanwhile, the channel response is refined, and the channel equalization algorithm is constructed on the basis of the minimum mean square error (MMSE) principle to eliminate the channel influence. Simulations show that the performance of underwater acoustic OFDM demodulation algorithm based on …

An improved particle swarm optimization-back propagation neural network (IPSO-BPNN) prediction model was built on the basis of energy consumption analysis by an integrated method. Clustering, classification, and correlation analysis methods were integrated to mine the energy consumption pattern of the air-conditioning system and determine the input variables for the prediction model. A nonlinear change strategy was designed to adjust the inertia …

Research On Decision-Making Of Closed-Loop Supply Chain For Dual-Channel Recovery Based On Game Theory, Ying Xu, Qinming Liu, Linsen Zhou Feb 2022

Research On Decision-Making Of Closed-Loop Supply Chain For Dual-Channel Recovery Based On Game Theory, Ying Xu, Qinming Liu, Linsen Zhou

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To tackle the difficulties and resource depletion in current packaging recycling, this paper constructs a centralized decision-making game model and three Stackelberg game models. Specifically, these Stackelberg game models are developed depending on the differences in the game power of participants in the closed-loop supply chain for dual-channel recovery, respectively corresponding to the cases where the manufacturer, the distributor or the third-party recycler is dominant. The optimal solutions of the four models are compared and analyzed. The benefits of decentralized decision-making do not reach the Pareto optimality as compared with centralized decision-making. An improved revenue sharing contract is …

Event-based landslide inventories are essential sources to broaden our understanding of the causal relationship between triggering events and the occurring landslides. Moreover, detailed inventories are crucial for the succeeding phases of landslide risk studies like susceptibility and hazard assessment. The openly available inventories differ in the quality and completeness levels. Event-based landslide inventories are created based on manual interpretation, and there can be significant differences in the mapping preferences among interpreters. To address this issue, we used two different datasets to analyze the potential of U-Net and machine learning approaches for automated landslide detection in the Himalayas. Dataset-1 is composed …

Multi-Breather Solutions To The Sasa-Satsuma Equation, Chengfa Wu, Bo Wei, Changyan Shi, Bao-Feng Feng

School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications and Presentations

General breather solution to the Sasa-Satsuma (SS) equation is systematically investigated in this paper. We firstly transform the SS equation into a set of three Hirota bilinear equations under proper plane wave background. Starting from a specially arranged tau-function of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy and a set of eleven bilinear equations satisfied, we implement a series steps of reduction procedure, i.e., C-type reduction, dimension reduction and complex conjugate reduction, and reduce these eleven equations to three bilinear equations for the SS equation. Meanwhile, general breather solution to the SS equation is found in determinant of even order. The one- and two-breather …

Effects Of Glutamine Deamidation On The Oxygen Isotope Compositions Of Bone Collagen, Curtis W. Russell Feb 2022

Effects Of Glutamine Deamidation On The Oxygen Isotope Compositions Of Bone Collagen, Curtis W. Russell

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The oxygen (O) isotope composition of mammalian collagen has the potential to provide information about the drinking water and hence geographic location and climate during the life of modern and ancient animals. An accurate and reproducible O-isotope analysis of collagen, however, has been elusive. Here, the O-isotope compositions of collagen from cortical bone of four megaherbivores were compared using two extraction procedures: the traditional Longin (HCl) method and the less commonly employed EDTA method. Preservation of O-isotope compositions was evaluated by measuring collagen peptide-chain masses, specifically the glutamine deamidation level (GDL). The EDTA method yielded collagen with a GDL of …

Paradigm Versus Paradox On The Prairie: Testing Competing Stream Fish Movement Frameworks Using An Imperiled Great Plains Minnow, Zachary D. Steffensmeier, Maeghen Wedgeworth, Lauren Yancy, Noah Santee, Shannon K. Brewer, Joshuah S. Perkin

United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications

Background: Movement information can improve conservation of imperiled species, yet movement is not quantified for many organisms in need of conservation. Prairie chub (Macrhybopsis australis) is a regionally endemic freshwater fish with unquantified movement ecology and currently considered for listing under the Endangered Species Act. The purpose of this study was to test competing ecological theories for prairie chub movement, including the colonization cycle hypothesis (CCH) that posits adults must make upstream movements to compensate for downstream drift at early life stages, and the restricted movement paradigm (RMP) that describes populations as heterogeneous mixes of mostly stationary …

Mining Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

In order to explore the influence of different lengths of hydrophobic carbon chains on the diffusion characteristics of surfactants on the surface of anthracite, six linear alkyl benzene sulfonates with different hydrophobic carbon chain lengths were selected (mC, m = 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18; m represents the numbers of carbon atoms in the hydrophobic carbon chain), and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were adopted. Models of surfactant-anthracite, surfactant-graphite layer, and water-surfactant-anthracite were constructed. After analyzing a series of properties such as adsorption energy, diffusion coefficient, radial distribution function (RDF), and hydrophobic tail order parameters, it was found that 12C …

Intramolecular Friedel-Crafts Addition Of Indoles To Tertiary Allylic Alcohols, Bryan H. Wakefield, Romie Barnes, Traeannah Brown, Ashley M. Jones, Victoria A. Knotts, Christina Martinetti

Journal of the South Carolina Academy of Science

An intermolecular Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indole and tertiary allylic alcohols has been developed. The allylic alcohols were synthesized using a two-step procedure, then exposure of these alcohols to diphenyl phosphate facilitated the desired annulation reaction. This reaction tolerated a variety of indole substitutions to yield 1H,2H,3H,4H-pyrido[1,2-a]indoles.

Women In Stem Fellowship: An Intersectional And Interdisciplinary Approach To Advancing Inclusion In The Sciences, Ina C. Seethaler, Gabriela Perez-Alvarado

Journal of the South Carolina Academy of Science

At our university, women-identified individuals make up 23% of students in STEM fields; less than 15% of them graduate with a STEM degree. Nationally, more than 40% of women who enter a STEM job leave it within fewer than ten years. Gendered issues within STEM industries have been identified, yet we are far from equal opportunities for all genders. In 2018, we—the director of Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) with colleagues in Math, Computing Sciences, and Chemistry—received a $45,000 grant to create a “Women in STEM Fellowship.” The inclusion of WGS made the fellowship interdisciplinary, intersectional, and informed our decision-making …

Connectedness Of Unit Distance Subgraphs Induced By Closed Convex Sets, Remie Janssen, Leonie Van Steijn Feb 2022

Connectedness Of Unit Distance Subgraphs Induced By Closed Convex Sets, Remie Janssen, Leonie Van Steijn

Theory and Applications of Graphs

The unit distance graph G1Rd is the infinite graph whose nodes are points in Rd, with an edge between two points if the Euclidean distance between these points is 1. The 2-dimensional version G1R2 of this graph is typically studied for its chromatic number, as in the Hadwiger-Nelson problem. However, other properties of unit distance graphs are rarely studied. Here, we consider the restriction of G1Rd to closed convex subsets X of Rd. We show that the graph G1Rd[X] is connected precisely when the radius of …

Application Of The Combinatorial Nullstellensatz To Integer-Magic Graph Labelings, Richard M. Low, Dan Roberts Feb 2022

Application Of The Combinatorial Nullstellensatz To Integer-Magic Graph Labelings, Richard M. Low, Dan Roberts

Theory and Applications of Graphs

Let A be a nontrivial abelian group and A* = A \ {0}. A graph is A-magic if there exists an edge labeling f using elements of A* which induces a constant vertex labeling of the graph. Such a labeling f is called an A-magic labeling and the constant value of the induced vertex labeling is called an A-magic value. In this paper, we use the Combinatorial Nullstellensatz to show the existence of Ζp-magic labelings (prime p ≥ 3 ) for various graphs, without having to construct the Ζp-magic labelings. Through many …

Conversational Information Seeking (CIS) is a relatively new research area within conversational AI that attempts to seek information from end-users in order to understand and satisfy users’ needs. If realized, such a system has far-reaching benefits in the real world; for example, a CIS system can assist clinicians in pre-screening or triaging patients in healthcare. A key open sub-problem in CIS that remains unaddressed in the literature is generating Information Seeking Questions (ISQs) based on a short initial query from the end user. To address this open problem, we propose Information SEEking Question generator (ISEEQ), a novel approach for generating …
