Modeling The Problem Of Integral Geometry On A Family Of Hyperbolic And Spherical Curves, Azamat Pirimbetov, N. Uteuliev, G. Djaykov

Karakalpak Scientific Journal

The problems of integral geometry in a strip on a family of curves of hyperbolic and spherical type are considered which have numerous applications in problems of geophysics, thermoacoustic and photoacoustic tomography. Explicit formulas are obtained for the Fourier image of the solution of integral geometry problems in the class of smooth compactly supported functions. Further, the obtained formulas are investigated for stability using numerical methods. To solve the problems, algorithms are constructed. Numerical and graphical results of applying these algorithms to solving the problems are presented.

Lesson Plan: Bird Biodiversity Data Collection (Day 2), Center For Urban Resilience

Module 06: Urban Biodiversity

In this lesson, students go outside to collect data for the second time to answer their research questions for their bird biodiversity study. In their field notes, students are asked to think about what factors might impact the bird biodiversity on their site in order to make connections to the event cards from the biodiversity game in Lesson 6.

Lesson Plan: Habitat Fragmentation And Species Survival, Center For Urban Resilience

Module 06: Urban Biodiversity

The last two lessons explored how specific events impact biodiversity. This lesson adds to the concept that biodiversity is impacted by events. One such event is a change in land use. Habitat loss and fragmentation in urban settings impacts the survival of many species. Through this sequence of activities, students will find that the more connected and closer the habitat patches, the more likely the population is to survive. After exploring the online simulation, students will consider best practices for designing green space in their own urban area so that species are able to immigrate between the patches and increase …

Lesson Plan: Bird Biodiversity Data Collection (Day 3), Center For Urban Resilience

Module 06: Urban Biodiversity

This is the last lesson where students go outside to collect bird biodiversity data for their field study. In this lesson, students are asked to consider the fragmentation of their study site and the migration patterns of the birds in their site. Again, the goal is to connect to the in-class activities and encourage students to apply the science concepts covered in the classroom to their field study.

Lesson Plan: Analysis And Interpretation Bird Biodiversity Data, Center For Urban Resilience

Module 06: Urban Biodiversity

This lesson is the culminating field site-based lesson in which students analyze the data they have been collecting over the last couple of weeks. Students apply the various scientific concepts they have been learning about biodiversity to make sense of their own data. After analyzing their own data in groups, students present their findings to the entire class. As part of these presentations, the class will discuss the validity of the different groups’ claims and whether they are supported by the data collected from the field as well as the various science concepts they have been learning in class.

Module 05: Public Health & Water Quality

This lesson introduces students to the module about public health by getting them to consider what does it means for a country, city or neighborhood to be healthy", what factors impact the health of people and what unique challenges do cities face in terms of public health. The goal of the lesson is to get students to brainstorm ideas and begin to start thinking about this topic. The concepts in this lesson will be revisited throughout the module. Students analyze public health data from across the world. These data sets are used to introduce the driving question for the module …

Module 05: Public Health & Water Quality

In this module, you will be investigating the driving question – How can I make my neighborhood a healthier place to live? Before looking at your neighborhood, you will first look at some health data from across the world to think about what does it mean for an area to be “healthy” and what factors impact public health.

Lesson Plan: Choices And Health, Center For Urban Resilience

Module 05: Public Health & Water Quality

The purpose of this lesson is to explore the evolution of human culture and its relation to health. Because overall population health is difficult to measure, statistics of life expectancy will be presented. Factors that influence life expectancy such as access to resources and technology as well as culture will be discussed. Students will also compare the weekly food consumption of different countries to explore how culture may play a role in health. Finally students will participate in an activity that has them reflect on their own choices and the possible influence of culture on those choices.

Module 05: Public Health & Water Quality

The choices we make everyday contribute to our health. Although taken individually, each choice doesn’t seem to be that important, many people do not consider how many of their choices work together to affect their overall health. This activity will ask you to consider your lifestyle choices as factors that positively or negatively contribute to your health.

Lesson Plan: Water Quality And Public Health, Center For Urban Resilience

Module 05: Public Health & Water Quality

The purpose of this lesson is to explore how water quality affects human health. The importance of this issue has led to the separation of drinking water from wastewater in most developed countries. When potable water is not separated from other types of water, the risk of disease and infection from microorganisms and toxic chemicals increases. Students will learn about common contaminants found in untreated water and explore ways that the water can be made potable. Students will participate in an activity to create a water filter prototype and test its effectiveness.
