The Outburst Probability Index (Ww) As A New Tool In The Coal Seam Outburst Hazard Forecasting, Marcin Dreger, Piotr Celary
Journal of Sustainable Mining
Gas and rock outbursts are one of the most unpredictable natural hazards in Polish and worldwide underground mining. The complexity and unpredictability of this phenomenon make forecasting and underground prevention difficult to achieve. Gas-geodynamic phenomenon occurs in greater intensity in the southern part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB) – close to the Bzie-Czechowice fault zone. The relatively low firmness of coal combined with high methane content and pressure may result in a coal seam outburst. To forecast the gas and rock outburst occurrence, the sorption capacity and gas diffusion parameters are used in Polish coal mining. To provide …

Rational Design Of Heterostructured Nanomaterials For Accelerating Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Kinetics In Alkaline Media, Hai-Bin Ma, Xiao-Yan Zhou, Jia-Yi Li, Hong-Fei Cheng, Ji-Wei Ma
Journal of Electrochemistry
Owing to the merits of high energy density, as well as clean and sustainable properties, hydrogen has been deemed to be a prominent alternative energy to traditional fossil fuels. Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) has been considered to be mostly promising for achieving green hydrogen production, and has been widely studied in acidic and alkaline solutions. In particular, HER in alkaline media has high potential to achieve large-scale hydrogen production because of the increased durability of electrode materials. However, for the currently most prominent catalyst Pt, its HER kinetics in an alkaline solution is generally 2–3 orders lower than that …

The electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into valuable chemicals is a feasible way to mitigate the negative impacts of overmuch CO2 emissions. Porphyrin-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are expected to be used for selective and efficient electrochemical CO2 reduction (ECR) with porous structure and ordered active sites. Herein, we report the synthesis of a monodispersed and spherical organic/inorganic hybrid Cu-TCPP@Cu2O electrocatalyst composed of Cu-TCPP (TCPP=tetrakis (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin) and Cu2O, where TCPP plays significant roles in regulating the morphology. In-situ formed Cu during ECR process in combination with Cu-TCPP (Cu-TCPP@Cu) can suppress …

A Tale Of Two Viruses: Why Smallpox Was Eradicated And Polio Persists, Katherine G. Mcgough, Erin N. Bodine
Spora: A Journal of Biomathematics
The smallpox and poliomyelitis (polio) viruses were, at a time, one of the largest threats to global public health killing millions until global eradication campaigns were put into effect. Vaccination led to the eradication of smallpox and the elimination of polio for most of the world. However, polio continues to persist at endemic levels in Pakistan and Afghanistan. We developed ODE models of smallpox and polio to explore differences in transmission dynamics and determine if the underlying biology has made poliomyelitis more difficult to eradicate. Our model analysis shows there are multiple factors which should allow polio to have a …

Rad-⊕-Supplemented Semimodules Over Semirings, Ahmed H. Alwan
Al-Bahir Journal for Engineering and Pure Sciences
. In this paper, Rad-⊕-supplemented semimodules are defined as generalization of ⊕-supplemented semimodules. Let R be a semiring. An R-semimodule A is called a Rad-⊕-supplemented semimodule, if each subsemimodule of A has a Rad-supplement which is a direct summand of A. Here, we investigate some properties of these semimodules and generalize some results on Rad-⊕-supplemented modules to semimodules. We prove that any finite direct sum of Rad-⊕-supplemented semimodules is Rad-⊕-supplemented. Also, we prove that if A is a subtractive semimodule with (D3) then A is Rad-⊕-supplemented if and only if every direct summand to A is …

Statistical Analysis Of The Spatial Distribution And Genesis Of Lithium In Geothermal Water In The Yangbajing-Gulu Rift, Xizang, Chen Yakui, Kong Yanlong, Duan Jiabin, Sun Wenjie, Cheng Yuanzhi
Coal Geology & Exploration
In the Yangbajing-Gulu rift, located in Xizang, the lithium concentration in geothermal water exceeds the average level of thermal springs in Xizang. However, the hydrochemical genesis of lithium in geothermal water in this rift remains controversial, and one primary reason for this is the unclear spatial distribution pattern of lithium. Common methods for analyzing spatial distribution patterns include Ordinary Kriging and CO-Kriging. Nevertheless, the former suffers low precision. For the latter, it is difficult to obtain suitable auxiliary variables. Given this, this study determined two auxiliary variables: (1) the Cl− concentration, a physicochemical parameter exhibiting the strongest correlation with …

Major Challenges Of Deep Geothermal Systems And An Innovative Development Mode Of Regs Integrated With Energy Storage, Hou Zhengmeng, Wu Xuning, Luo Jiashun, Zhang Liehui, Li Zaoyuan, Cao Cheng, Wu Lin, Chen Qianjun
Coal Geology & Exploration
China has long been a global leader in the direct utilization of moderate- to low-temperature geothermal energy, in contrast to its sluggish progress in power generation using deep geothermal energy. Rocks in deep reservoirs exhibit decreased permeability under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, necessitating the establishment of engineered geothermal system (EGS) for the exploitation of deep geothermal energy. In an EGS, hydraulic fracturing is employed for reservoir stimulation to create artificially enhanced geothermal reservoirs with higher permeability. The current techniques for deep geothermal reservoir stimulation are predominantly borrowed from hydraulic fracturing processes employed in the oil and gas sector, placing limitations …
