Donor-acceptor (D-A) cyclobutanes are a well recognized building block in synthetic organic chemistry thanks to their unique reactivity. A variety of synthetic methodologies such as cycloaddition, rearrangement, and ring-opening addition of D-A cyclobutanes have been reported. Among them, the rearrangement reactions of D-A cyclobutanes have attracted less interest compared with other methodologies as they too often require extreme reaction conditions. To further explore the rearrangement reactions of D-A cyclobutanes, in this work a ring expansion rearrangement reaction of D-A cyclobutanes analogous to the Cloke–Wilson reaction of cyclopropanes was examined. This study extends the body of literature concerning security compliance by investigating the antecedents of HIPPA security compliance. A conceptual model, specifying a set of hypothesized relationships between management support, security awareness, security culture; security behavior, and risk of sanctions to address their effect on HIPAA security compliance is presented. This model was developed based on the review of the literature, Protection Motivation Theory, and General Deterrence Theory. Specifically, the aim of the study is to examine the mediating role of risk of sanctions on HIPAA security compliance.

Cyber attacks threaten the security of distribution power grids, such as smart grids. The emerging renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics (PVs) with power electronics controllers introduce new potential vulnerabilities. Based on the electric waveform data measured by waveform sensors in the smart grids, we propose a novel cyber attack detection and identification approach. Firstly, we analyze the cyber attack impacts (including cyber attacks on the solar inverter causing unusual harmonics) on electric waveforms in distribution power grids. From January 2018 to December 2019, the Kentucky Geological Survey monitored earthquakes and conducted research on seismic hazards in the vicinity of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, a former uranium enrichment facility, in McCracken County, western Kentucky. Six hundred forty-four earthquakes with magnitude between 0.5 and 3.7 were recorded in the area during this period. Research focused on the influence of the thick sediments on earthquake ground motion, the so-called site response, through theoretical and data analysis of borehole seismic records. Purpose: To develop a method to reconstruct quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) from multi-echo, multi-flip angle data collected using strategically acquired gradient echo (STAGE) imaging. Methods: The proposed QSM reconstruction algorithm, referred to as “structurally constrained Susceptibility Weighted Imaging and Mapping” scSWIM, performs an ℓ1 and ℓ2 regularization-based reconstruction in a single step. The unique contrast of the T1 weighted enhanced (T1WE) image derived from STAGE imaging was used to extract reliable geometry constraints to protect the basal ganglia from over-smoothing. Following an ongoing interest in the study of transition metal complexes with exotic bonding networks, we report herein the synthesis of a family of heterobimetallic triangular clusters involving Ru and Pd atoms. These are the first examples of trinuclear complexes combining these nuclei. Structural and bonding analyses revealed both analogies and unexpected differences for these [Pd2Ru]+ complexes compared to their parent [Pd3]+ peers. Noticeably, participation of the Ru atom in the π-aromaticity of the coordinated benzene ring makes the synthesized compound the second reported example of ‘bottled’ double aromaticity. Cell-penetrating and membrane-pore forming peptides are a class of membrane-active peptides. They are short sequence peptides having both hydrophilic and lipophilic combinations of amino acids. These peptides can have contrast functional diversity. Peptides encoded by viruses function as viroporins and play a critical role in viral replication, propagation, and pathogenesis. One such peptide is the Ebola virus delta peptide, which forms a pore in the host cell membrane. Avian influenza A viruses (IAV) have received significant attention due to the threat they pose to human, livestock, and wildlife health. In this review, we focus on what is known about IAV dynamics in less common avian species that may play a role in trafficking IAVs to poultry operations. Specifically, we focus on synanthropic bird species. Synanthropic species, otherwise known as peridomestic, are species that are ecologically associated with humans and anthropogenically modified landscapes, such as agricultural and urban areas. The Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube (RHVT) is a simple mechanical device with no moving parts capable of separating a supply of compressed fluid into hot and cold streams through a process called temperature separation. The overall aim is to develop models which can be used to assess the temperature separation mechanisms in the RHVT, leading to a better overall understanding of the underlying physics. The introductory chapter contains a thermodynamic analysis and introduction to the flow physics, alongside three miniature literature reviews and critiques identifying research gaps.

Impact craters and their ejecta deposits offer insights into the structure and composition of planet crusts. Hargraves Crater, Mars, demonstrates an unusual balance of exposure and preservation in its ejecta. Analysing its morphologic, morphometric, thermophysical, and stratigraphic characteristics, we interpret two predominant units: an underlying ballistic lithic breccia and an overlying impact melt-bearing deposit. The lower unit is a lithic breccia composed of sub-angular, unsorted clasts (~10-12 m mean diameter), while the overlying unit is a smooth, dark toned, smaller clast-bearing (~1 m diameter at image resolution) impact melt-bearing unit with polygonal fracturing. Machine Learning in Natural Language Processing (NLP) deals directly with distributed representations of words and sentences. Words are transformed into vectors of real values, called embeddings, and used as the inputs to machine learning models. These architectures are then used to solve NLP tasks such as Sentiment Analysis and Natural Language Inference. Advanced LIGO and other ground-based interferometric gravitational-wave detectors use high laser power to minimize shot noise and suspended optics to reduce seismic noise coupling. This can result in an opto-mechanical coupling which can become unstable and saturate the interferometer control systems. The severity of these parametric instabilities scales with circulating laser power and first hindered LIGO operations in 2014. Static thermal tuning and active electrostatic damping have previously been used to control parametric instabilities at lower powers but are insufficient as power is increased.
