Digital Analysis For Van Gogh's Painting, Yuqing Liu, Yuanyuan Pu, Yangfu Ren, Xu Dan

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Usually, Sparse Coding can be used to extract image characteristics for analyzing the style of visual art works, while researchers always don't do deep data mining on the trained basis function. The basic functions that could reflect the interior characteristics of a stylish image were trained based on Sparse Coding on art works. The spatial and higher-order characteristic statistics were figured out. Van Gogh's art works of different periods were analyzed through normalized mutual information computing using trained basis function's Gabor transform power, in order to find the diversity of style. The simulation results show that data mining on …

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: With the increasing complexity of the simulation system, the reliability requirement is also growing. In order to ensure the reliability of the simulation system, a cloud simulation platform was built. Experiments show that, this method can inhibit boundary aliasing as well as ensuring graphics and image local deformation result smoothness. By applying it to vector graph deformation, multiple complex deformation …

Study On Virtual-Observation Kalman Filter Algorithm Of Multi-Radar Networking, Wenbo Zhao, Hailong Ding, Chenghua Qu, Mo Jun

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Under the circumstances of tracking targets in multi-radar networking (MRN), measure-value in polar coordinates of the networked radar (NR) has the nonlinear relation with state-value of targets tracking coordinates, which does not satisfy linear requirement of Kalman filter algorithm (KFA) application. Virtualizing the tracking coordinates of MRN as the measure coordinates of KFA was introduced. As a result, original nonlinear relation was simplified as a linear form. By means of modeling virtual observation noise and constructing the initialization strategy, KFA could solve state estimation problem in MRN. Simulation analysis and real data verification demonstrate that virtual-observation KFA (VOKFA) has …

Faculty Authored Articles

Here we analyze the statistics of electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves observed in the Earth's inner magnetosphere during coronal mass ejection (CME), high-speed stream (HSS), and quiet solar wind (QSW) conditions in the upstream solar wind (SW). For our analysis we use the EMIC wave observations by the two Van Allen Probes during their first magnetic local time (MLT) revolution. The major results of our analysis are as follows: (1) Criteria to identify the HSS, CME, and QSW conditions in the SW are formulated. (2) 54%, 36%, and 10% of EMIC wave events are observed during CME, HSS, and QSW, …

Research And Simulation Of Equalization Algorithm Suitable For High-Order Qam Signals, Wang Yan, Shen Pan, Wang Chao

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Traditional dual-mode blind equalization algorithm is based on constant modulus channel equalization, its convergence is slow, and it has a low efficiency of bandwidth. For overcoming its shortcoming, two blind equalization algorithms suitable for high-order QAM signals were proposed. These are double mode multi-module equalization algorithm (DMMA) and semi-blind equalization algorithm (SBEA). DMMA used multi-module equalization algorithm as first mode and multi-module assistant equalization algorithm as second mode, both modes simultaneously equalized the signal. For achieving a fastest convergence and lowest error rate, DMMA's result was regard as the pilot data for least mean square algorithm (LMS), which is …

State Event Detecting Algorithm For Hybrid System Based On Interval Newton's Method, Haiyan Wang, Yihuai Hu Aug 2020

State Event Detecting Algorithm For Hybrid System Based On Interval Newton's Method, Haiyan Wang, Yihuai Hu

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Accurately detecting of state events is critical for hybrid dynamic systems, especially for systems with singularities or event functions with multiple roots. A carefully constructed extrapolation polynomial among state value of past time points was applied to predict values of event functions. The polynomial was derived from a variable-step multi-step integration method. The extended interval Newton's method was employed to find all roots in a certain time interval. Due to no using of values of future time points, the polynomial can be employed to determine the integration step size by checking potential events in systems with model singularities. The procedure …

“Playing The Whole Game”: A Data Collection And Analysis Exercise With Google Calendar, Albert Y. Kim, Johanna Hardin

Statistical and Data Sciences: Faculty Publications

We provide a computational exercise suitable for early introduction in an undergraduate statistics or data science course that allows students to “play the whole game” of data science: performing both data collection and data analysis. While many teaching resources exist for data analysis, such resources are not as abundant for data collection given the inherent difficulty of the task. Our proposed exercise centers around student use of Google Calendar to collect data with the goal of answering the question “How do I spend my time?” On the one hand, the exercise involves answering a question with near universal appeal, but …

Two analysis errors have been identified that affect the results for a handful of the high-value pulsars given in Table 1 of Abbott et al. (2019). One affects the Bayesian analysis for the five pulsars that glitched during the analysis period, and the other affects the 5n-vector analysis for J0711-6830. Updated results after correcting the errors are shown in Table 1, which now supersedes the results given for those pulsars in Table 1 of Abbott et al. (2019). Recent Progress In Enhancing Poly(Lactic Acid) Stereocomplex Formation For Material Property Improvement, Fuhong Luo, Alexander Fortenberry, Jie Ren, Zhe Qiang

The production and utilization of polymers have been widely implemented into diverse applications that benefit modern human society, but one of the most valuable properties of polymers, durability, has posed a long-standing environmental challenge from its inception since plastic waste can lead to significant contamination and remains in landfills and oceans for at least hundreds of years. Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) derived from renewable resources provides a sustainable alternative to traditional polymers due to its advantages of comparable mechanical properties with common plastics and biodegradability. However, the poor thermal and hydrolytic stability of PLA-based materials limit their potential for durable applications. …

College of Science & Mathematics Departmental Research

In this work, we present a grazing incidence X-ray diffraction study of the surface of a 0.24Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3-Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (PIN-PMN-PT) [011] poled rhombohedral single crystal. The near surface microstructure (the top several tens to hundreds of unit cells) was measured in situ under an applied electric field. The strains calculated from the change in lattice parameters have been compared to the macroscopic strain measured with a strain gauge affixed to the sample surface. The depth dependence of the electrostrain at the crystal surface was investigated as a function of temperature. The analysis revealed hidden sweet spots featuring unusually high strains that were …

Petrographic-Mineralogical Examination And Diagenetic History Of The Paleogene Evaporites In Bulanık (Muş), Turkey, Pelin Güngör Yeşi̇lova

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

Oligocene aged evaporite formations are observed in shallow sea-sabkha environments that develop in highly restricted conditions from sea in northeastern of the Muş basin. Evaporites are observed as alternated and intercalated with clastics and carbonates that developed under the control of factors such as climate, tectonism, volcanism and diagenesis. Evaporites consist of primary and secondary gypsum and minor anhydrite. In petrographic and minerologic examinations, secondary gypsum textures such as alabastrin, porphyroblastic and satin spar with anhydrite relicts, late diagenetic calcite, bitumen and bioturbation traces were detected. In SEM-EDS studies; celestine crstals, autogenic and detritic clay and quartz grains and euhedral …
