Analyses Of Groundwater For Trace Levels Of Pesticides, T. L. Lavy, J. D. Mattice, T. C. Cavalier Sep 1985

Analyses Of Groundwater For Trace Levels Of Pesticides, T. L. Lavy, J. D. Mattice, T. C. Cavalier

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

Agricultural production is a major source of revenue in Arkansas. In order to increase productivity, it has been necessary to rely increasingly on the use of pesticides and irrigation water. In the last 15 years several states have reported finding pesticides in groundwater as a result of normal agricultural practices. Since almost half of the population also relies on groundwater as their source of drinking water, it is necessary to conduct research as to ascertain the presence or absence of commonly used pesticides in groundwater. Multi residue analytical techniques were developed for the analysis of acifluorfen, alachlor, atrazine, cyanazine, diuron, …

Demonstrations Of Arkansas' Water Management Simulator, Leslie E. Mack

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

One of the larger stumbling blocks to comprehensive water management is the lack of public understanding of the multitude of variables that operate at the same time within the hydrologic cycle. With more public understanding, there is greater public support for various water projects. Dr. John R. Amend from Montana State University developed a water management simulator which could handle a large number of variables simultaneously of natural surface and groundwater flow plus a number of water use variables on an accelerated time sequence. By using several remote control devices, participants can "control" their water use but have no control …

The Effects Of An Intervention Program On Nursing Burnout, Maria Rosa-Morales Sep 1985

The Effects Of An Intervention Program On Nursing Burnout, Maria Rosa-Morales

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The risk for professional burnout has become commonly recognized and in the past several years has been a focus of research efforts. Nursing is one of the professions generating a high level of stress which results in burnout.

The purpose of this study was to test the effects of an intervention program for nurses who felt they were experiencing burnout. Nursing burnout was defined as a chronic condition of stress among nurses, which leads to a syndrome of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal accomplishment. The design used was a true experiment. Fifty-two nurses served as voluntary participants who …

The Behavior Of Soluble Salt In Sharkey Clay, J. T. Gilmour, J. A. Ferguson, H. D. Scott, R. E. Baser

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

Soluble salt problems do exist and are significant in Arkansas. Studies have been conducted on Crowley silt loam (Typic Albaqualfs) which have established the behavior of soluble salt in that soil. The major objective of this study was to quantify the behavior of soluble salt in a second important Mississippi River Delta soil - the Sharkey (Vertic Haplaquepts). To this end, estimation of the downward redistribution of salt and the estimation of various components of the water balance for this soil served as specific objectives. Field studies were designed to monitor the movement of salt in the Sharkey soil and …

Reanalysis Of Higgs-Boson-Exchange Models Of Cp Violation, Jf Donoghue, Br Holstein Aug 1985

Reanalysis Of Higgs-Boson-Exchange Models Of Cp Violation, Jf Donoghue, Br Holstein

Barry R Holstein

We reexamine the value of ɛ'/ɛ in models where CP violation is due to the exchange of charged Higgs bosons. Previous work has been flawed by incorrect treatment of the chiral properties of weak amplitudes. We use the effective-chiral-Lagrangian framework to clear up these aspects. The resultant value of ɛ'/ɛ is estimated to be in the neighborhood of ɛ'/ɛ=-0.006, although this estimate could be off by a factor of two or three in either direction. This value is consistent with the present experimental bounds.

Certain Generalisations Of Acceptance Sampling Plans By Attributes., R. J. Pandey Dr. Aug 1985

Certain Generalisations Of Acceptance Sampling Plans By Attributes., R. J. Pandey Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The use of inspection gained importance when people started getting conscious of maintaining the quality of manufactured product. According to Anscombe (1958) inspection for quality in the form of acceptance sampling plans originated around 1920. The classical work of Dodge and Romig (1929) put acceptance sampling on a firm footing. In general, sampling inspection can be broadly classified into (i) lot- by-lot inspection (11) bulk sampling inspection and (iii) "continuous; sampling inspection. The lot-by-lot sampling inspection is applied where a series of lots or batches of discrete items are available for inspection. On the other hand, a batch of cotton, a …

Considerations In No-Till Small Grain Production, David C. Ditsch, John H. Grove, Lloyd W. Murdock, James H. Herbek

Soil Science News and Views

Small grains have become an important component of many crop rotations in Kentucky. Seedbed preparation has typically involved various degrees of tillage in which much of the residue from the previous crop is buried. Under such conditions, a field may be vulnerable to severe soil loss during periods of heavy rainfall until the plants have produced enough vegetative growth to cover the soil surface. Eliminating tillage in small grain production would not only reduce soil loss but also reduce labor cost and increase the timeliness of planting. Interest in no-till small grain production is growing. One survey reports that in …

Theoretical And Experimental Capacitance-Voltage Behavior Of Al0.3ga0.7as Gaas Modulation-Doped Heterojunctions - Relation Of Conduction-Band Discontinuity To Donor Energy, George B. Norris, David C. Look, W. Kopp, J. Klem, H. Morkoç Aug 1985

Theoretical And Experimental Capacitance-Voltage Behavior Of Al0.3ga0.7as Gaas Modulation-Doped Heterojunctions - Relation Of Conduction-Band Discontinuity To Donor Energy, George B. Norris, David C. Look, W. Kopp, J. Klem, H. Morkoç

Physics Faculty Publications

For the first time, we show that the capacitance-voltage behavior of modulation-doped heterojunctions may be accurately described by a first-principles theory that includes selfconsistent quantum two-dimensional (2-D) electron subbands in the GaAs, numerical solution of Poisson's equation for band bending and space charge in the (Al,Ga) As, and series resistance in the 2-D channel and heterointerface. The excellent agreement found between the theory and measurements on selected high-quality Al0.3Ga0.7 As/GaAs heterojunctions allows accurate determination of the maximum 2-D carrier concentration. From this, we find a strong relationship between the conduction-band discontinuity and donor binding energy, giving offsets. …

Birefringence Measurements Of The Uniaxial-Stress Dependence Of The Incommensurate Phase Transition In K2Seo4, D. P. Billesbach, F. G. Ullman, John R. Hardy Aug 1985

Birefringence Measurements Of The Uniaxial-Stress Dependence Of The Incommensurate Phase Transition In K2Seo4, D. P. Billesbach, F. G. Ullman, John R. Hardy

John R. Hardy Papers

The uniaxial-stress dependence of the incommensurate-phase-transition temperature (at 130 K) in K2SeO4 was measured along all three crystal axes by observation of the anomalies in the birefringence caused by the structure change. The results for the c-axis-stress dependence (- 17.0±0.2 K/kbar) agree with previous studies of other workers. This experiment has also provided the first direct measurements of the a-axis- and b-axis-stress dependences (+ 3.1 ±0.2 K/kbar and +7.7± 0.2 K/kbar, respectively). Also, a value of -6.2±0.3 K/kbar was calculated from these data for the dependence of the transition temperature on hydrostatic pressure. This …

Cross Sections For Ionization Of Gases By 10-2000-Kev He+ Ions And For Electron Capture And Loss By 5-350-Kev He+ Ions, M. Eugene Rudd, T. V. Goff, A. Itoh, R. D. Dubois

M. Eugene Rudd Publications

Cross sections for production of positive and negative charge for 10-2000-keV He+ ions on He, Ne, Ar, Kr, H2, N2, CO, O2, CH4, and CO2 were measured by the transverse-field method. Electron-capture and -loss cross sections for 5-350-keV He+ ions on the same targets were measured by the method of beam deflection of various charge states after passing through a known length of target gas. Secondary-emission detectors were used to detect neutral, singly charged, and doubly charged beam components. The equation σ+- σ- = σ10 …

Subsurface Stratigrapy And Sedimentologic Control On The Productive Middle Devonian Age Richfield Member Of The Lucas Formation In The Michigan Basin, Sukru Nail Apak Aug 1985

Subsurface Stratigrapy And Sedimentologic Control On The Productive Middle Devonian Age Richfield Member Of The Lucas Formation In The Michigan Basin, Sukru Nail Apak

Masters Theses

The depositional system of the Middle Devonian Richfield Member of Lucas Formation in the Michigan Basin was delineated using well logs, cores, drillers' records, and the literature. The Richfield Member was deposited in Sabkha and lagoonal environments characterized by cycles of anhydrite, dolomite, and limestone. Seven significant productive dolomitic zones, interbedded with anhydrite and limestone can be correlated throughout the study area. These zones change laterally to anhydrite towards the west flank and to dense limestone towards the east flank of the basin. Post-depositional diagenetic history of the Richfield was established with the aid of scanning electron microscopy and electron …

A Study Of Integral Equations For Computing Radial Distribution Functions, Zainuriah Hassan Aug 1985

A Study Of Integral Equations For Computing Radial Distribution Functions, Zainuriah Hassan

Masters Theses

Integral equation T (a two parameter equation of the Ornstein-Zernike form) is studied for computing the radial distribution functions of simple classical fluids interacting pairwise according to the Lennard-Jones 6-12 potential function. Numerical calculations are done on a computer for the system in the gas and liquid phases. At a high temperature, equation T results are found to agree very well with equation C when the parameters are chosen in a similar way. At a temperature slightly above the critical temperature, results from other sources over a wide density range. In equation T, by varying two of the parameters, the …

A Seismic Study Of An Impact Feature In Cass County, Michigan, Mancheol Suh Aug 1985

A Seismic Study Of An Impact Feature In Cass County, Michigan, Mancheol Suh

Masters Theses

A geophysical investigation, including a seismic study, of the subsurface structure of the Calvin-28 oil field, Cass County, Michigan, indicates that the structure's origin may be related to an impact event. The structural closures in the time structure maps and drilling results both show a central uplift. The fault system in the Trempealeau Formation shows a structure similar to other proven astroblemes. Undisturbed layers just beneath the central uplift also provide evidence of an impact structure. The result of mathematical modeling of the central uplift under the assumption that the structure is an impact structure corresponds well with the drilling …
